- Chapter 18 - The Fox’s Bite and the Heart’s Mark
Hungry…
When Yan Jun heard Li Cheng talking to him again, his mood instantly lifted.
“What do you want to eat?”
Seeing that Yan Jun’s mood had improved, Li Cheng immediately teased him.
His eyes were like the deep surface of a secluded sea—calm, dark, and unreadable—revealing nothing of his true thoughts. The only thing visible was the teasing curve of his smile.
“I want to eat what you cook.”
Yan Jun thought Li Cheng was getting more and more outrageous!
But… that wound, he’d taken it for Yan Jun’s sake.
If he refused such a small request, it would seem heartless.
“I’ve never cooked for anyone before,” Yan Jun said, his tone cool but tinged with something odd.
“There’s a first time for everything,” Li Cheng replied.
Then he started to get out of bed.
Yan Jun immediately stood, moving to press him back down. “What are you doing?”
When Li Cheng saw Yan Jun reaching out to support him, he took the opportunity to grab Yan Jun’s hand—using it as leverage to get off the bed.
Yan Jun froze for a split second, then snapped back to his senses. “Let go of my hand!”
Li Cheng thought to himself that his “wife” was just being shy.
She looked even cuter like this than when she was cold and distant.
“You know, yesterday…” Li Cheng paused for two seconds. “I twisted my ankle. It still hurts. You helping me isn’t going to cost you a piece of flesh.”
He had actually twisted it, though not badly. Still, he decided to play it up—after all, Yan Jun was the kind of man who hated owing anyone anything.
If he framed it like this, Yan Jun would definitely soften toward him.
Yan Jun glanced down at Li Cheng’s ankle—it was indeed red and slightly swollen.
His brows drew tight.
After a long moment, Yan Jun simply scooped Li Cheng up into his arms.
Li Cheng was stunned, completely caught off guard by the sudden movement.
He scrambled, one hand clutching the back of Yan Jun’s neck. “Put me down!”
He’d only twisted it a little, not broken it! Wasn’t Yan Jun overreacting?
“Don’t move,” Yan Jun ordered, his voice cold. Then he carried Li Cheng straight out of the hospital room.
Their destination: the orthopedics department.
Half an hour later, Li Cheng had yet another part of his body wrapped in bandages.
He looked at the thick layers around his ankle and blinked.
This… was absolutely ridiculous.
After the bandaging, and at Li Cheng’s insistence, the two returned to the villa at Rose Garden in Green City.
Throughout the entire trip, Li Cheng never stopped his shameless “wife-chasing campaign.”
When the car turned, he would “accidentally” lean right into Yan Jun’s shoulder.
When he reached for something, his fingers would “accidentally” brush against Yan Jun’s hand.
Even searching for his phone somehow led to him groping around on Yan Jun’s thigh.
When they were stopped at a red light, he sang horribly corny love songs.
And of course—he found every excuse to touch Yan Jun here and there.
By the time they reached the villa, Yan Jun’s patience had completely run out.
He shoved Li Cheng up against the door.
His voice came out low and rough, his gaze sharp and dangerous.
“Li Cheng, if you mess with me one more time, I swear I’ll—”
Before Yan Jun could finish, Li Cheng realized something serious.
He spoke to A-Keng through his divine link:
I think Yan Jun and I… are sharing the same spiritual channel.
This was… a big problem.
“You think you can take me?”
That was a blatant provocation.
Yan Jun’s expression darkened further. “Want to find out?”
Li Cheng took a step back.
“Hey now,” he raised a hand, “I’m injured right now. Fighting me would be bullying the wounded.”
“Then I’ll only use one hand.”
With that, Yan Jun suddenly lifted Li Cheng into his arms again.
Li Cheng’s eyes widened. What the hell is he doing?!
【Fox Host, you’ve really pissed him off. I think he’s about to beat you up.】
At those words, Li Cheng twisted his wrist slightly, his fingers flicking to summon divine power.
Nothing happened.
He tried again. Still nothing.
Li Cheng didn’t believe it. He focused harder, gathering his energy—
But after several attempts, he froze in shock. Where’s my divine power?
【Host, you’re still in recovery. Using divine power right now would harm your body.】
Li Cheng: ????
He lifted his gaze slightly—only to meet Yan Jun’s dangerous eyes.
And suddenly, Li Cheng understood.
He had really provoked him this time.
Before he could react, Yan Jun threw him down hard onto the sofa.
Leaning over him, Yan Jun growled, “Since you want to run your mouth, let’s settle this once and for all!”
Li Cheng wasn’t about to back down.
His eyes glinted. Looking at Yan Jun’s neck, he decided—now was the time.
He’d bite first and use the Heart-Sealing Spell later.
So he twisted, grabbing hold of Yan Jun and pinning him back.
His eyes shimmered with heat and mischief, his crimson lips parting slightly. “In that case,” he murmured, “let’s do it the fox way.”
Then he leaned down and bit Yan Jun on the neck.
“Tch—” Yan Jun hissed, frowning at the sting of pain.
The sensation was sharp and real.
Moments later, a faint, dark mark formed—a Heart-Sealing Sigil shaped like a fox—on the side of Yan Jun’s neck.
Pale and dim, yet faintly glowing.
Li Cheng tilted his head, staring at the mark, his brows furrowing.
Growing one tail meant affection.
Growing nine meant lifelong bond—life and death shared as one.
The Fire Fox Clan would only ever choose a partner for whom nine tails would grow.
But this faint, almost colorless sigil…
It might not even form one tail.
He stared at the barely visible mark and felt his heart sink.
By all logic, the brighter and redder the Heart-Sealing mark, the stronger the emotional bond—and the higher the chance of nine tails forming.
But this misty, near-transparent glow…
The odds were bleak.
【Still, it’s a start, Host. You’ve planted it. There’s a chance—it just takes time.】
