- Chapter 26 - The Little Actor’s Secret
Li Cheng tried to pull his hand free from Yang Ming’s grip, but the younger man only held on tighter.
His brows drew together. What the hell was this… He had a wife!
When the man beside them heard Yang Ming’s words, disbelief flickered across his face, and the anger in his eyes deepened.
His face flushed a dark red, and his voice rose sharply.
“Yang Ming, who the hell are you trying to fool? Last night I just—”
Yang Ming: “……”
Li Cheng: “……”
A’Keng: “……”
Good lord. So it turned out this was just a lovers’ quarrel?
[Fox Host, we’re supposed to be under the elevator, not trapped inside it.]
Li Cheng stepped forward and said lightly, “I’ve got somewhere to be, so I’ll get going.”
With that, he pressed the button to go down.
Yang Ming hurriedly said, “No, don’t! Li Cheng, please—I was forced!”
Li Cheng frowned, uncertain who was telling the truth.
[It might be… forced love?]
Li Cheng gave the man across from him a puzzled look. The man’s face had gone red; his fists clenched tight, knuckles popping audibly.
“Yang Ming, are you seriously trying to avoid me now?”
Just then, the elevator reached the first floor. Yang Ming loosened his grip slightly, then suddenly squeezed Li Cheng’s wrist hard.
“Li Cheng, please save me—he’ll kill me!” Yang Ming’s voice trembled with panic.
At that moment, the elevator doors slid open again.
“Li Cheng, save me!” he shouted, before darting out of the elevator.
The man raised his foot in fury to chase him. “Yang Ming! Try running again, I dare you! Get back here!”
He didn’t make it far before Li Cheng grabbed his collar and yanked him back into the elevator. The doors closed behind them.
Li Cheng casually pressed the button for the 26th floor, speaking calmly, “I left something upstairs. Why don’t we go grab it together?”
The man smacked Li Cheng’s hand away and snapped, “What the hell is wrong with you?”
Before he could finish, he swung a punch. “You nosy bastard! You looking to die?”
Li Cheng caught the man’s wrist and forced it down, his tone still lazy.
“Don’t accuse me of anything. The doors opened on their own. You’re the one who didn’t leave.”
“If you hadn’t held me back, would I be stuck here beating your ass?” the man growled, veins bulging.
Li Cheng clicked his tongue.
He tightened his grip until the man winced in pain.
“You? Beat me? Don’t flatter yourself.”
This guy definitely looked like the violent type.
“What’s your relationship with him?” Li Cheng asked.
“He’s my wife!”
Li Cheng’s expression darkened. “Could’ve fooled me. I’d have thought he killed your whole family with how you’re acting.”
The man shot him a vicious glare and stepped back.
“Listen here. If anything happens to Yang Ming because of you, I’ll kill you!” he snarled, voice dripping with menace.
Li Cheng was beyond confused now and couldn’t be bothered to argue.
A soft ding announced their arrival at the 26th floor.
He’d only meant to stall the guy, but just as the doors opened, something caught his eye.
Before the doors closed again, Li Cheng stepped out.
Inside the elevator, the man frantically pressed the button for the first floor to chase after Yang Ming.
Li Cheng walked toward one of the rooms down the hall.
The door that had been ajar before was now closed.
But moments ago, what he’d glimpsed inside had been… stimulating. Two silhouettes pressed close, tugging at each other’s clothes right at the doorway.
Their kiss had been fevered—practically a scene out of a movie.
Li Cheng almost laughed. If I’m not mistaken, one of those men was Xu Han, wasn’t it?
[Correct, Fox Host. It was Xu Han.]
Li Cheng: And the one kissing him—wasn’t Chen Qiu. So who?
[The CEO of Jiangyue Entertainment, Li Qing.]
Tsk, tsk… now that’s interesting.
Looks like Chen Qiu’s been cultivating a whole green field on his head.
Li Cheng pulled out his phone and typed out a message:
Huading Hotel, 26th floor, Room 012. If you’re not here within twenty minutes, your precious Xu Han’s beyond saving.
As soon as he sent it, several unread messages popped up.
The contact name read Yang Ming, Little Cutie.
He opened them.
Li Cheng, can I stay at your place for a couple of days?
Please, I’m begging you. Just two days, I’ll be joining a web drama crew after that. I won’t bother you.
Can I?
Li Cheng’s frown deepened.
Stay at his place?
He didn’t even have a place of his own!
He replied: Probably not convenient. Sorry.
He slid his phone back into his pocket and reentered the elevator.
When he reached the lobby, he ran straight into Chen Qiu rushing in.
They met at the revolving doors.
Chen Qiu grabbed Li Cheng by the collar at once, his face dark with fury.
“Li Cheng, what the hell did you do to Xu Han?!”
Li Cheng slowly lifted his gaze. Chen Qiu had arrived faster than expected—just a few minutes. He must’ve been nearby.
Chen Qiu really did treat Xu Han like treasure.
The last time Chen Qiu sent people to rough him up, Yan Jin had handled it, but Li Cheng still hadn’t forgiven him.
Still, this wasn’t the time to spoil the fun.
He simply pushed Chen Qiu aside without striking back.
“Why don’t you go take a look for yourself?”
Then he strolled toward the exit, unbothered.
Chen Qiu’s breathing grew ragged, his voice sharp.
“I’m warning you, Li Cheng—if anything happens to Xu Han, I won’t let you go!”
“Oh?” Li Cheng replied flatly, without turning his head. “I’m terrified.”
Then he added lightly, “Hurry, or you’ll miss the show while it’s still hot.”
Chen Qiu’s face flushed with rage, but he still dashed toward the elevators.
Li Cheng, meanwhile, was in an excellent mood.
He’d barely walked two hundred meters from the hotel when he saw the same man from before dragging Yang Ming toward a car—like some human trafficker.
So the kid hadn’t gotten far.
[Unacceptable! Fox Host, who treats their spouse like that?!]
Li Cheng watched as Yang Ming suddenly broke free and sprinted across the street, right into traffic. The man was forced to stop at the crosswalk.
[Ding! Main quest triggered. Activated by the original host’s consciousness. Objective: Take care of Yang Ming.]
Li Cheng rubbed his temples, exasperated. Am I really supposed to bring Yang Ming to Yan Jin’s place?
[System analysis shows this solution has a 90% success rate.]
Li Cheng sighed. Something tells me it won’t be that simple.
[The truth always comes after the mission’s done, Fox Host.]
Crossing the street, he stopped behind the zebra lines, pulled out his phone again, and saw two new messages.
One from Yan Jin: What do you want for dinner tonight?
And one from Yang Ming: Li Cheng, sob sob sob…
Li Cheng typed back to Yan Jin: Can I bring a friend to stay at your place for two days?
Yan Jin’s reply came instantly: I’d rather you didn’t.
Li Cheng: Please?
Yan Jin: Fine.
Li Cheng: Thanks.
Half a second later, another message popped up: What do you want for dinner tonight?
Feeling a little better, Li Cheng replied: Braised Yan Jin.
Then, a moment later, he sent a voice message more seriously: “Make it taste bad. My agent said I’m not allowed to eat two bowls of rice.”
In his office, Yan Jin had been signing documents when he heard that voice note—and promptly wrote the wrong name.
He’d signed Li Cheng instead of Yan Jin.
Realizing it, he rubbed his temples and texted his assistant: Print me a new copy of today’s files.
He looked again at the document with Li Cheng written on it.
He really was losing his mind.
It came out so naturally.
Seeing that Li Cheng sounded more like himself—less distant than the last few days—Yan Jin immediately sent him a voice message:
“Why were you mad?”
