- Chapter 43 - Cold War and Cold Hearts
When the Little Fox woke the next morning, the lights in the room were still off. The curtains were drawn tight, leaving the place in near darkness.
He frowned slightly, disoriented for a moment.
As the memories of last night came crashing back, Li Cheng let out a long breath.
He rubbed the space between his brows. Did I… mistake him for Yan Jin yesterday?
[Fox Host, the difficulty rating for capturing Yan Xun suddenly jumped to 98A yesterday!!! It was just B-level before…]
[No one in the entire system headquarters has ever completed a mission of this difficulty…]
[Fox Host, what do we do now? Waaaah…]
Li Cheng clenched his fists. He really wanted to punch himself. He couldn’t even tell the difference between people and ended up blurting nonsense.
Perfect. He’d just upgraded his task to hell mode.
Letting out another long sigh, he tried to calm himself.
Just as he was sorting through the chaos in his mind, the bedroom door opened.
Yan Xun walked in, his expression unreadable, a porcelain bowl in his hand.
Li Cheng’s lips parted, but no words came out.
Yan Xun came over and, without saying a thing, placed his hand on Li Cheng’s forehead.
The fever was gone.
Some of the tension in Yan Xun’s chest eased.
But his face remained cold, like a figure carved from ice.
His voice was laced with scorn and disdain.
“Since you’re awake, get out of this house.” He set the bowl down on the bedside table, his tone sharp and chilling.
“You’re kicking me out?” Li Cheng lowered his gaze, his voice hoarse.
His fingers clutched the blanket so tightly it wrinkled beneath his grip.
“I…” He met Yan Xun’s eyes.
Yan Xun’s thoughts darkened the longer he looked at that face. Remembering what had happened last night only made his mood more twisted.
And then his anger burst out.
“You went to all that trouble to get close to me—to seduce me—just so I’d listen to you, didn’t you?”
The fury in his eyes burned like a wild animal’s. He looked like a wolf about to rip his prey apart.
Li Cheng closed his eyes briefly, then opened them again. What was said in confusion couldn’t be taken back now.
And with Yan Xun’s affection meter skyrocketing in the wrong direction, the mission’s difficulty had once again gone up—
To a point that now seemed utterly impossible to complete.
A knot of unease twisted in Li Cheng’s chest.
He was starting to feel afraid.
“Don’t look at me with those pathetic eyes.” Yan Xun gripped his chin tightly. “I won’t let you have your way.”
“Your mission will never succeed. I despise people who approach me with ulterior motives.”
His eyes flickered dangerously. “You’ve really pissed me off this time.”
That furious, predatory look returned—sharp enough to tear him apart.
“I’ll make you regret ever having that thought.” Yan Xun’s tone was glacial, his words cutting.
“Yan Xun… can we talk about this later? I have a schedule today,” Li Cheng tried to change the subject.
But Yan Xun stepped closer, his anger boiling over.
He seized Li Cheng’s jaw, his breathing harsh, eyes burning like a caged lion ready to strike.
When he finally let go, he turned toward the door, his tone laced with cold authority.
“Get out once you’re ready.”
“Don’t let me see you again.”
Without another glance, he walked out.
Once Yan Xun left, Li Cheng stirred slightly. What time is it?
[Fox Host, it’s 9:20 a.m. You need to arrive at the recording site by one. The official shoot starts tomorrow.]
After a pause, A-Keng started cursing.
[That big jerk Yan Xun! He actually kicked you out! I’m so mad—what a horrible man!]
Li Cheng sighed. Don’t provoke him anymore. Maybe moving out isn’t such a bad idea.
He took a moment to gather himself, then got up.
Yang Ming, who had been scolded by Yan Xun for no reason earlier, came looking for Li Cheng to vent. The moment he opened the door, he nearly bumped right into him.
Yang Ming frowned deeply. “Li Cheng—did he just kick you out?”
Seeing Li Cheng’s expression, Yang Ming’s tone turned indignant on his behalf. “Li Cheng, your boyfriend treats you terribly! If it were me, I’d have broken up already! This silent treatment—this is emotional abuse!”
He figured the sudden change in Yan Xun’s behavior must be because of a lovers’ quarrel. Sure, couples fought sometimes—but this was just too much.
“Yeah.” Li Cheng nodded calmly. “We’re breaking up today.”
Yang Ming blinked, dumbfounded. “Wha—wait, for real?”
He didn’t know how to react.
“Li Cheng, I mean, I was just saying—stuff like that’s really up to the two of you. You should think it through carefully, okay?” He patted Li Cheng’s shoulder in consolation.
Li Cheng let out a quiet click of his tongue. “I’ve thought it through. We’re breaking up.”
From the second-floor landing, he glanced downstairs. Yan Xun was already gone.
He started heading down the stairs.
Yang Ming followed close behind. “Aren’t you sad?”
