- Chapter 47 - Jealousy on Camera
Yan Xun was thrilled.
The corners of his mouth wouldn’t stop lifting.
The host was completely stunned.
“Hahaha…” The host burst out laughing. “Well, that’ll give everyone something to speculate about.”
Variety shows thrived on hype, and what Li Cheng did was actually quite tame in comparison.
Few people knew about Yan Jin’s second personality—and Li Cheng clearly didn’t care.
“Can you tell us a bit more?” The host asked, holding the board, pressing gently for details.
Li Cheng pursed his lips for a second, then smiled beautifully at the camera. “I… drank the porridge he made.”
“Oh? So you already knew this guest beforehand? Is it Li Shen? I heard you used to have a crush on him.”
Li Shen was indeed one of the guests this season. The original Li Cheng had once chased after him—a fact that had been exposed online long ago and never denied. It was basically public knowledge now.
Pulling up that topic for clicks was just business as usual.
“No.”
Seeing that Li Cheng had no intention of saying more, the host wisely stopped digging and moved on to another question.
After a few more rounds, the host turned to the camera. “Finally, Li Cheng, say something to the guest who might make your heart flutter.”
Li Cheng looked into the camera, smiling slightly. “Check your unread messages.”
Yan Xun’s heart thundered like a drum in his chest.
On the TV, the host continued cheerfully, “Wow, you’re making me nervous now! Honestly, who in this world could not like our Li Cheng?”
Li Cheng answered smoothly, “He doesn’t.”
“How could that be?” The host protested. “I’m sure he does.”
The two exchanged smiles. The interview ended, and another guest entered the room.
——
At the dating show’s filming site, Qingyang Resort—
After finishing the pilot episode, Li Cheng returned to his assigned room. Other than the bathroom, every inch of the space was covered with cameras. Privacy didn’t exist here.
He lay on the bed, pulled out his phone, and took two selfies.
Then he opened WeChat.
He clicked into Yan Jin’s chat window.
And sent the photos over.
After a moment, he typed: Do I look good today?
Back at the villa, Yan Xun was sitting on the couch when his phone suddenly lit up—three unread messages from his little fox.
He immediately grabbed the phone and opened WeChat. The screen showed Li Cheng’s selfies—his head tilted slightly, smiling with deliberate charm that was somehow adorable.
Good-looking or not…
Yan Xun was furious.
That message was meant for Yan Jin!
What did it have to do with him?!
He tossed the phone aside again.
A second later, another notification popped up.
Li Cheng: Why aren’t you replying?
Ding ding ding…
Before Yan Xun could even set the phone down, an incoming video call flashed on screen.
His fingers tightened around the device, eyes locked on the green button.
Answer it. What’s there to be afraid of?
Yan Xun sat upright, straightened his shirt, and accepted the call.
The moment the connection went through, a stunningly beautiful, seductive face filled the frame—Li Cheng had the phone so close it was practically pressed to his cheek.
Yan Xun’s heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively held the phone farther away.
With a mocking snort, he said, “What, disappointed? It’s me, not your precious Jin.”
Li Cheng smiled softly. “Not disappointed. I called you on purpose.”
Yan Xun froze. His hand trembled slightly, at a loss for words.
“Hmph.” He forced out, pretending to be smug. “You think I’m gonna believe that?”
Li Cheng stared at the cold, dangerous man on the other side of the screen, bit his lip, and asked, “Do you miss me?”
Five seconds of silence.
“Why the hell would I miss you?!”
Li Cheng’s expression faltered instantly; his eyes dropped, obvious disappointment clouding his face.
Then he hung up.
“Hey—” Yan Xun blinked, momentarily stunned.
He hung up? Just like that?
Wait a second…
Why was he angry? Shouldn’t he be relieved not to waste time staring at Li Cheng’s face?
Then why did it piss him off when Li Cheng ended the call?
Why the hell did he hang up?!
Yan Xun immediately hit “call back.”
After one ring—Call declined.
He tried again.
Call declined.
That was it. Yan Xun’s temper flared. He fired off a message: Answer the video call.
Li Cheng: Why?
Yan Xun: Because I said so.
Li Cheng: Why? You want to see me? Or do you miss me? If you just want to yell again, you already did that. I’m going to sleep.
Yan Xun stared at the chat box, unsure what to even say.
He didn’t know why he was acting like this.
Without replying, he hit “video call” again.
This time, Li Cheng answered.
But he was no longer in the bathroom. He was lying in bed, sideways, his phone angled toward his face. He looked like a soft, well-behaved kitten.
Li Cheng didn’t speak. Instead, he typed: There are cameras here. I can’t talk. Go ahead and scold me if you want.
Seeing him like that, Yan Xun couldn’t bring himself to say anything harsh. His voice softened. “I’m not here to scold you.”
Li Cheng moved the video to a smaller window so he could type while keeping Yan Xun in view. Their conversation became half video, half text.
Li Cheng: If you’re not scolding me, then why call? To stare at my stunning beauty before bed?
Before Yan Xun could respond, another line popped up:
Li Cheng: Didn’t you say you wanted to break up with me?
Yan Xun’s temper flared. “Break up? When were we even together? When did I say that?”
Li Cheng: You told me this morning to move out of the villa.
Yan Xun’s voice rose. “That’s between you and Yan Jin! What does it have to do with me?!”
Li Cheng: You are Yan Jin.
“Hmph.” Yan Xun exhaled sharply. “Don’t lump me in with him!”
Li Cheng: Then Yan Jin is you. You’re my boyfriend.
Yan Xun stared at him—the flawless, porcelain-smooth skin, the face so pretty it could be sculpted. He wanted to snap back, but somehow yelling felt wrong when faced with that delicate, obedient look.
“I’m not your boyfriend. Stop making things up.”
Li Cheng’s reply came fast:
Li Cheng: Then why are you calling me? Who the hell video chats their “ordinary friend” at 10 p.m.? You really don’t like me?
Yan Xun gritted his teeth. “I could never like you.”
Li Cheng: Oh. Then I’m hanging up.
He moved to end the call.
“Don’t you dare.” Yan Xun snapped.
Ding dong. Ding dong.
The doorbell rang in Li Cheng’s room.
He turned the phone camera around and propped it up on a pillow. The video stayed on.
Li Cheng got out of bed and opened the door.
Yan Xun, on the other end, saw everything.
A man in a bathrobe stepped into frame.
Yan Xun’s expression darkened instantly.
Li Cheng froze in surprise when he saw the man—it was Chen Qiu.
“Chen Qiu? What are you doing here?” He wanted to kick the man out on the spot, but with cameras everywhere, he held back.
Chen Qiu mistook that restraint for lingering affection.
He stepped inside, pulling Li Cheng into his arms, wrapping him tightly in the blind spot beside the door.
“Cheng Cheng, I missed you.”
The cameras didn’t catch it—
—but the phone did.
Yan Xun shot up from the couch, eyes burning with barely contained fury.
The rage that followed was unstoppable.
(t/n: In this chapter, Yan Jin and Yan Xun are the same person with split personalities. Li Cheng’s confusion about “who he’s talking to” adds emotional tension and irony, since both versions of Yan Jin have different attitudes toward him.)
