Chapter 23.2:
Shen Qiu’s paw froze mid-lick.
Kang Yanhua had a daughter?
Judging by the sudden change in Kang Yanhua’s face, it was clear Qin Yan had hit the mark. But where did that information come from? Shen Qiu had never heard of it.
It wasn’t until Qin Yan continued his questioning that he learned the truth: Kang Yanhua had an ex-wife, and their daughter lived with her.
Kang Yanhua knew his line of work wasn’t good for the child and rarely visited, but a portion of his earnings was regularly sent as alimony.
After Qin Yan failed to get anything from Kang Yanhua’s mother, he followed the trail of the money and found his ex-wife.
Clearly, Kang Yanhua cared deeply for his daughter. Once Qin Yan mentioned her, his defenses began to crumble.
It was only from his account that Shen Qiu finally understood Boss Bai’s entire operation.
The new drug had been brought back from overseas by Boss Bai himself. He had nearly died from using it abroad, and after years of trafficking, he knew exactly how profitable such a product could be.
So he smuggled himself back into the country and chose the bustling city of Haishi as the base for its development.
Developing a new drug required money, though, so he contacted old partners to buy and sell goods, using the profit margin to fund research.
But money wasn’t the only thing needed. He also needed test subjects. Long-term addicts already had high tolerance levels, so their results were unreliable. Thus, he turned his eyes toward Haishi’s ordinary citizens.
Since he was still a wanted man, he couldn’t show himself publicly, so he set up three contact points within the city: one with Old K, another with Old Wu and Skinny Monkey, and one at the “Heaven and Earth” nightclub.
“The three of us only met when making exchanges,” Kang Yanhua confessed. “So I don’t know much about the other two contact points.”
From there, the interrogation went much smoother. Once everything was on record, Kang Yanhua hesitated for a moment before asking Qin Yan, “Can you… not tell my ex-wife I was arrested?”
Qin Yan merely raised an eyebrow and gave no answer, leading Shen Qiu out of the room.
Shen Qiu’s tail slapped against the ground in frustration. If he cared so much about his daughter, why hadn’t he thought about the daughters of others?
The girls Wang Miao had kidnapped for “testing” were all someone’s children, too.
With Old K’s testimony and Shen Qiu’s recorded footage, the case against Boss Bai was airtight, even though he refused to speak.
Once his injuries healed, he was transferred directly to the Supreme Court for trial.
The nightclub and the fugitive Skinny Monkey became the next targets of the police’s surveillance and search operations.
Meanwhile, Shen Qiu began a long period of recovery.
Guoguo was brought back during Shen Qiu’s first week of convalescence. She, too, spent her days lying around like an invalid, and the trainer doted on her endlessly.
Shen Qiu didn’t understand at first, until he learned from the trainer that Guoguo was pregnant.
The father was a police dog from a neighboring city, an award-winning K9 with multiple commendations and excellent genes.
No wonder the trainer had been grinning nonstop since Guoguo’s return.
Ba Wang was devastated when he found out Guoguo was pregnant but not with his pups.
Yet somehow, he managed to come to terms with it. One day after training, he went up to Guoguo and said, “Guoguo, don’t worry! Even if you don’t like me, I’ll still take care of you and the babies! If you don’t mind, I’ll be their dad!”
Shen Qiu had been sunbathing on the dormitory roof at the time. He nearly fell off when he heard that.
He simply couldn’t understand….how could anyone—no, any dog—be happy to raise someone else’s pups?
As it turned out, Ba Wang wasn’t just happy but he was good at it.
When he wasn’t training, he spent all his time fussing over Guoguo and the babies, so attentive it made Shen Qiu’s fur itch just to watch.
At first, Shen Qiu thought Guoguo’s pregnancy would mean she’d finally stop pestering him. He’d finally be free.
But…
While she indeed lost interest in him romantically, she somehow decided it was her mission to persuade him about the virtues of reproduction.
Every chance she got, she would tell him how wonderful it was to “pass on excellent genes.”
Shen Qiu: …
When I was human, I had to deal with aunts and cousins nagging me to get married. Now that I’m a cat, I still have a dog telling me to have kids?!
Guoguo’s persuasion was relentless. Shen Qiu’s head ached from hearing it day after day. Life in the dorm became unbearable, and he spent every possible moment in the Criminal Investigation Department office just to get away.
Two months passed like that. His injuries healed completely.
And then, under police surveillance, the “Heaven and Earth” nightclub finally made a move.
That night, the police received a tip that a large-scale new drug deal would take place in one of the private rooms at the club. The transaction would be led by the club’s owner.
The police mobilized immediately, both to prevent another setup like before, and to prepare enough manpower.
Whether the tip was real or fake, the timing made it clear that Skinny Monkey and the nightclub’s people were getting restless. If not tonight, then something would happen very soon.
The informant also reported that the nightclub would be holding a masked ball that night, where everyone had to wear masks, making it the perfect cover for a covert operation.
Once confirmed, Qin Yan sent Teams One and Two to the scene. After discussing it with Da Zhuang and the others, he decided to bring Shen Qiu along as well.
However, since Skinny Monkey already knew Shen Qiu, the cat had to stay in the car to avoid being recognized.
Inside, undercover officers mingled with the guests, their hidden cameras transmitting clear footage of the event. Though it was still afternoon, the place was already crowded and noisy.
Watching the feed, Shen Qiu’s sharp eyes darted back and forth.
Something didn’t feel right.
Everything was going too smoothly.
Skinny Monkey appeared just when they wanted him to. The club planned a big masked ball right when they wanted to catch them red-handed.
Could the owner really be so careless under the police’s watch?
A sudden thought hit him…wouldn’t a quiet, hidden location be better for such a deal?
His fur bristled.
This whole thing was a diversion, a decoy!
Pacing on the car seat, the big cat grew increasingly agitated.
Qin Yan stroked his head, puzzled.
“What’s wrong, Qiuqiu?”
“Meow meow meow!” How am I supposed to explain when you don’t speak cat?!

He could only keep yowling toward the nightclub, trying to draw Qin Yan’s attention.
Luckily, Qin Yan’s instincts often ran parallel to Shen Qiu’s thoughts. After hearing the cat’s urgent cries and glancing again at the footage, he hissed under his breath,“Yang Yue, don’t you think this is all… too easy?”
“Huh?”
“From setup to infiltration… everything’s gone too smoothly. You really think the deal’s happening here?”
His words hit like a clap of thunder. The entire car fell silent, tension snapping into focus.
Qin Yan issued orders immediately:
“Check the nightclub owner’s other properties: everything under his and his associates’ names!”
The undercover team inside couldn’t withdraw without alerting the suspects, so fresh units were deployed.
Before long, investigators found another property, registered under the owner’s wife, in the same villa district where Old Wu and Skinny Monkey used to live.
It had to be the real location.
The SUV parked across from the nightclub quietly pulled away, heading toward the villa district.
By sheer luck, they arrived just in time, the deal was already underway. There was no time for another setup so Qin Yan ordered a direct raid.
They burst in through the back door, surrounding everyone on the spot.
At the center, Skinny Monkey’s face drained of color the moment he saw the police. He grabbed the briefcase full of cash, shoved the club owner forward, and bolted for the back door.
Shen Qiu dashed after him with Qin Yan, hot on his heels. The owner scrambled up, cursed, and ran too.
Weaving through corridors, Shen Qiu closed in fast. Just as they reached the courtyard gate, he lunged, slamming into the club owner’s back and clawing Skinny Monkey’s leg.
Skinny Monkey screamed in pain.
Shen Qiu stomped twice on the owner’s back and the weight of a twenty-five-pound cat nearly drove the man into the ground again.
“Meow meow meow!” Run again, I dare you!
The owner tried crawling away, but Shen Qiu pounced on him once more, pinning him down.
When Qin Yan and the others rushed out, the man was lying face-down in the dirt, sobbing and shaking.
Seeing Qin Yan, he crawled over and clutched his leg, crying miserably.
“Officer, help! There’s a tiger!”
The officers exchanged looks. Someone couldn’t help laughing.
Shen Qiu rolled his eyes.
“Meow meow meow!” Thanks a lot!
He gave the owner a sharp whack with his tail, making the man flinch.
Skinny Monkey, meanwhile, had escaped. He must’ve known the villa’s layout and by the time the officers chased after him, he’d vanished.
The “Heaven and Earth” nightclub was sealed off, and the owner, once in custody, quickly confessed.
He confirmed everything: Zhang Jibo’s involvement, the human testing, all of it.
Soon after, he and Kang Yanhua were both handed over to the court. With that, the new drug case finally drew to a close.
Every last trace of the substance on the streets was seized by the police.
