- Chapter 82 - The Library’s Brewing Storm
Qi Guang gazed deeply at Ruan Tang.
Clearly, it was Tang Tang who had been in danger. Yet somehow, she was the one comforting him.
How could she be so obedient, so good?
“Wifey…”
He took a step forward, gathering the delicate, soft girl tightly into his arms.
His voice was muffled against her hair. “From now on, I’ll protect you. I’ll never leave your side—not even for a single step. I won’t let anyone get close to you, alright?”
Ruan Tang thought he was just speaking casually. She answered just as softly, “Okay.”
…
The next day was the weekend.
Ruan Tang had heard that this university’s library boasted an incredibly rich collection. And since she loved reading more than anything, of course she wouldn’t miss such a good opportunity!
Before completing her task and leaving this world, she planned to go through every book that caught her interest.
With her near-photographic memory, she could devour books at lightning speed, skimming through line after line without pause.
So that morning, she rose early and gathered a towering stack of books in the library.
Wanting to focus, she set her phone to silent and chose a seat by the window. Quietly, she began to read.
She didn’t know how much time passed. Eventually, feeling a bit tired, she stretched.
Suddenly—a cup of steaming hot coffee was placed in front of her.
Ruan Tang blinked in surprise.
Looking up, she saw Lu He’s gentle, handsome face framed by warm brows and eyes.
“Senior Lu He?”
That day, Lu He wore a pale open-collared shirt. His short, flax-colored hair gave him a soft, non-threatening air. When he smiled, it was like a spring breeze brushing across the skin.
Across the library, more than a few girls sneaked glances at him, faces flushed with secret excitement.
But his gaze never strayed from Ruan Tang. His eyes curved with a tender smile.
“Tang Tang is so focused. I’ve been sitting next to you for quite a while now, and you didn’t even notice. Does that mean I don’t have much of a presence?”
Ruan Tang flustered, waving her hands. “That’s not true at all…”
So many girls were staring at him. If this was what he called “no presence,” then what counted as noticeable?
Lu He glanced at the stack of books beside her. They weren’t just literature, but history, philosophy, and other complex, heavy tomes.
His eyes flickered faintly.
So Tang Tang had this side too… It surprised him.
“The book you’re reading now—this author has another obscure work that’s just as good.”
He was a lover of books himself. Using this topic as a bridge, he hoped to close the distance between them.
At once, Ruan Tang’s eyes lit up. She looked like a kitten spotting a fish—utterly adorable.
“What book is it? Does the library have it?”
Lu He’s lips curved in a faint smile, the small motion making his refined features shine even brighter.
If this were a shoujo manga, roses would be blooming extravagantly behind him.
“It’s out of print. The library doesn’t have it. But I own a copy at home. If you’d like to read it, I can bring it for you.”
Ruan Tang hesitated.
“Out-of-print books are precious. Isn’t it risky to lend them out casually?”
Lu He softened his tone, his gentle gaze steady on her.
“But Tang Tang isn’t just anyone.”
Her cheeks warmed under his stare. She stammered, “N-no, that’s alright… I still have other books I haven’t finished yet.”
“That’s fine. When I find it, I’ll bring it to you.”
He’d originally wanted to offer to send her home as well. But then he thought—lending books meant she’d have to return them. That would give him more chances to see her.
Wouldn’t that be better?
Ruan Tang’s eyes grew misty with gratitude. She looked up at him softly.
“Senior Lu He, you’re such a good person!”
His smile froze.
A “good person card.”
Helpless yet indulgent, he reached out to ruffle her hair before nudging the cup of coffee closer.
“Tang Tang said you were tired, right? Have a little. I added sugar—it’s not bitter. Just be careful, it’s hot. Drink slowly.”
“Thank you, Senior.”
Her pale, slender hands cradled the cup obediently. Steam curled up, dyeing her cheeks a faint rose.
Lu He’s gaze darkened slightly as he watched her sip in small, cautious gulps, like a tiny animal tasting something new.
Her lips were so small, soft, and glossy. When they parted, the flash of white teeth only made them look more inviting.
That tender little mouth—it was hard not to imagine…
Then, all of a sudden, Ruan Tang winced. She had sipped too quickly and scalded herself.
Her little face scrunched up, and she stuck out the tip of her red, wet tongue, eyes shimmering with unshed tears.
Lu He’s gaze dimmed. He leaned closer, his voice low.
“What’s wrong, Tang Tang?”
Ruan Tang fanned desperately at her tongue, brows furrowed in pitiful complaint.
“Mmm… I-I burned myself…”
Her words came out thick, muffled.
Lu He lowered his eyes, his voice rough, coaxing.
“Be good. Open your mouth a little—let senior see.”
Ruan Tang obediently parted her lips, eyes squeezed shut, letting him check.
Staring at her defenseless, enticing posture, Lu He’s self-control strained to the limit.
“A little red. Drink something cool, it’ll help.”
He handed her his own water bottle.
“I haven’t used it yet. If you don’t mind it’s mine, have a sip?”
Ruan Tang accepted it with both hands, smiling up at him sweetly.
“Thank you, Senior.”
Watching her drink from his cup, Lu He’s lips curled in satisfaction.
Such a little fool.
When she returned it, he twisted open the lid and deliberately drank from the exact spot her lips had touched.
See? Wasn’t this an indirect kiss?
With no defenses at all… someone might just take advantage.
“Tang Tang, feeling better now?”
“Yes, much better.”
Lu He tilted her delicate chin upward with a gentle touch, his voice soft.
“Let senior check again, alright?”
Without thinking, Ruan Tang lifted her head, closed her eyes, and parted her lips once more, her tongue peeking out wetly.
Her lashes trembled faintly, fragile as a dewy rose about to break.
—How he longed to stain her with his color.
A roaring surge of possessiveness crashed in Lu He’s chest. Like a man bewitched, he leaned in, his lips inching closer to hers.
Just before they touched—
He was wrenched back by a powerful force.
The grip was brutal, leaving no room for mercy.
Lu He slammed hard against the back of his chair, pain shooting through him. Rage flickered in his eyes, though he quickly masked it beneath his usual refined composure.
“Qi Guang-ge?”
The moment Ruan Tang opened her eyes, she saw Qi Guang’s hand locked around Lu He’s throat, pinning him down against the chair.
His other fist was raised high, ready to smash down onto Lu He’s face.
The students around them screamed.
Ruan Tang rushed forward, clinging tightly to Qi Guang’s arm.
“Don’t—”
Every muscle in Qi Guang’s body was taut, veins bulging along his arm. His face was storm-dark with fury.
Only the warmth of the girl’s breath against him seemed to pierce through the haze of rage. Slowly, he turned his head toward her and forced a strained smile.
“Wifey, I’m sorry. I couldn’t hold back.”
