- Chapter 204 - His “Brother”… or His Possession?
Ruan Tang was amused by his flustered reaction, and all the fear from earlier vanished without a trace.
Chi Yang’s hand was still resting on top of her head, not moving away.
So, like a little kitten, Ruan Tang rubbed her head against his palm and looked up at him with soft, peach-blossom eyes full of sweetness.
“Thank you.”
Chi Yang’s face instantly flushed red all the way down to his neck.
His usual fierce, intimidating aura nearly collapsed on the spot.
He lifted a hand to cover his mouth, speaking in a gruff, hurried voice.
“D-Don’t get the wrong idea! I only did it because of Yan Qing. You—you’re the one he likes, so of course I gotta look out for you!”
Even though those were his own words, Chi Yang still felt a sour ache rising in his chest.
Yeah… the “little boy” in front of him was Yan Qing’s person.
They’d even been… in the student council office earlier today.
It must’ve been mutual.
If he hadn’t shown up like a third wheel, maybe they would’ve gone even further than just kissing…
The thought stabbed at him, leaving his heart in tatters, almost too painful to bear.
But then, that soft “little boy” timidly tugged at the hem of his shirt.
Looking up at him with a gentle smile.
“By the way, what’s your name?”
The man turned his face aside, his voice muffled.
“…Chi Yang.”
Ruan Tang froze for a moment.
Wait—that name sounded so familiar.
Hold on!
Wasn’t this the name of the supporting male character from the original manga?
In the story, he silently protected the delicate white lotus Lin Yao—a domineering yet tender, deeply devoted second lead.
Back when she was reading the manga, Ruan Tang had already liked this character quite a bit.
Besides, if it weren’t for him today, she might really have been completely ruined…
So Ruan Tang gave him another sweet smile. “Ah-Yang, thank you!”
(t/n: Adding “Ah-” before someone’s name is a familiar, affectionate way of addressing them in Chinese, often used among close friends or family.)
Every muscle in Chi Yang’s body went rigid.
Just from hearing his name called like that, he couldn’t hold back the rush of emotion flooding his chest.
He had to cover it up with a rough, impatient tone, trying to hide his shyness.
“Stop with the nonsense! Anyway, from now on, stick with me. I’ll protect you!”
Ruan Tang nodded happily. “Okay, then from now on we’re good brothers!”
In her mind, Chi Yang was obviously a straight, tough guy. Having an extra “good brother” as a supporting role wouldn’t break the plot!
She felt much more at ease.
But Chi Yang choked on those two words—good brothers.
Bitterness and jealousy welled up inside him again.
On the surface, though, he kept his usual fierce, unruly look and muttered awkwardly,
“Whatever you say.”
Later, Ruan Tang went to shower.
She was so exhausted that she nearly fell asleep while washing.
By the time she came out, she was half-drowsy, wearing only a loose pajama set. She even forgot that she no longer lived alone—she hadn’t wrapped herself in bandages.
Sleepy and careless, she wandered out of the bathroom.
Chi Yang was lounging on the sofa, long legs stretched out, scrolling casually on his phone.
But in truth, his ears had been tuned the whole time to the sound of running water from the bathroom.
The heat in his ears had never gone down.
Hearing the door open, he looked up.
And saw—
The “little boy” toweling his damp hair, his porcelain-white face steamed pink like a ripe fruit, dewy and delicate.
Chi Yang’s Adam’s apple bobbed hard, his throat tightening.
In the quiet dorm, the sound of his gulp was starkly loud.
Ruan Tang blinked at him sleepily, then suddenly stiffened in horror.
Oh no! She’d forgotten—he was still here!
Fortunately, the bath towel in her hands covered her overly full chest, so Chi Yang hadn’t noticed right away.
She panicked, clutching the towel tighter to her chest, and turned to rush back into the bathroom.
But her foot caught on the table’s edge, and she nearly fell.
A strong arm caught her by the shoulders. With a tug, she spun around and fell straight into his broad chest.
Chi Yang held the soft little body tightly against him.
His first thought—wow, soft.
His second thought—what the hell, why so soft?!
Especially where his abs pressed against…
At over six feet tall, Chi Yang towered over Ruan Tang, who was just a little over five-foot-three.
The height difference meant that when he looked down, all he saw was a fluffy little head. Incredibly cute.
“Why are you so soft?”
He asked the question lightly, his big hands pressing on her shoulders, about to push her back to get a better look.
Ruan Tang was so terrified she didn’t even dare breathe. She wrapped her arms tightly around his solid waist, clinging like a koala to a tree trunk.
“I-I’ve been eating a lot lately! Gained some weight! Heh…”
She blurted out the flimsiest excuse she could think of.
Chi Yang’s face turned crimson at the sudden embrace. Every muscle in his body went stiff as iron.
Awkwardly turning his head aside, his voice came out hoarse.
“O-Okay! I get it, just let me go already…”
Ruan Tang’s cheeks burned. She whispered, “Then turn around and don’t look—”
Her pajamas were loose, but her curves still strained against the fabric, the neckline sagging low to reveal far too much soft, snow-white skin. The hem had ridden up as well.
Anyone with eyes could see something wasn’t right.
Chi Yang barked gruffly, “We’re both guys, what’s there to be shy about? It’s not like I’m gonna eat you!”
Ruan Tang’s voice trembled, pitiful and soft. “I just don’t want you to see…”
Chi Yang assumed “he” was embarrassed about being chubby.
So he turned his head away, speaking clumsily to reassure him.
“You’re not fat at all! Look at your skinny arms and legs—you don’t weigh more than a feather. I could lift you with one hand, believe it or not?”
He was about to keep lecturing when he felt that soft warmth slowly slip away from him.
The brush of her body against his left a strange sensation.
His hand on her shoulder unconsciously pressed down harder.
Ruan Tang winced, brows furrowing, letting out a small, helpless whimper.
That sound hit him like lightning—his heart skipped a beat.
Chi Yang immediately let go, panicked. “Sorry, did I hurt you…?”
Ruan Tang, face flushed with fear, threw the bath towel over his head and bolted back into the bathroom.
Chi Yang stood frozen.
The towel, still warm and scented from her, draped over his handsome face. He forgot to take it off.
In his mind, the fleeting image from just now replayed again and again.
He hadn’t seen clearly—but it looked like something pink and soft had flashed past his eyes.
Suddenly, his nose felt hot.
When he wiped it, his hand came away red.
A nosebleed.
Chi Yang cursed under his breath. “Damn it!”
Ruan Tang bandaged herself layer upon layer, changed into an even looser pajama set, and threw on a big outer jacket for good measure.
Only after making absolutely sure her figure was hidden did she step out again, timid and cautious.
Chi Yang was now seated at the computer, gaming.
Headphones on, a lollipop clamped between his teeth, his sharp, rebellious features tense, his expression dark and fierce.
(t/n: The lollipop here reflects a common trope in Chinese fiction where a character substitutes candy for cigarettes—retaining the “bad boy” vibe while still looking youthful and playful.)
