- Chapter 208 - If You Call It “Friendship,” I’ll Seal Your Lips
Chi Han glared at Xia Lan with open hostility, reaching out to pull Ruan Tang back while muttering under his breath.
“Tangtang isn’t a boy—”
Before he could finish, Ruan Tang cut him off in a panic.
“Xia Lan!! You’ve misunderstood! I was being harassed by a stalker just now, and Chi Han appeared in time to save me…”
Xia Lan’s expression faltered, flashing a trace of awkwardness.
Still, her face remained tense as she questioned coldly.
“Then what exactly was that scene? That bastard had you pinned against the wall! If that wasn’t him trying to force you, then what was it?”
“That… that was…”
No matter how fast Ruan Tang’s mind spun, she couldn’t think of a reasonable explanation for Chi Han’s perverted behavior earlier.
Xia Lan’s face grew darker and more dangerous.
Chi Han, however, spoke up loudly, his eyes bright and utterly sincere.
“That was Tangtang rewarding me! I’m Tangtang’s good puppy—when I help her, she gives me a reward!”
Xia Lan was stunned.
She looked from Chi Han to Ruan Tang, suspicion and disbelief swirling in her gaze, along with a flicker of anger.
Ruan Tang: “…”
Wuwu… my reputation, my innocence, my image—completely ruined.
Xia Lan suddenly scowled, releasing Ruan Tang with a sour tone.
“Ha, so I was meddling for nothing.”
She lifted her lashes coolly, casting Ruan Tang a mocking glance.
“Didn’t expect it. You look so innocent, but it turns out you’re this experienced—playing games this kinky? Master-and-servant roleplay?”
Ruan Tang: … crying but with no tears.
Since Ruan Tang didn’t explain further, Xia Lan grew irritable. She clicked her tongue—far from a refined young lady’s image—and turned to leave.
But after a few steps, she whirled back, glaring fiercely with her striking eyes.
“Well? Aren’t you getting in the car? Do you want me to invite you with a bow and curtsy?”
Ruan Tang blinked, her snow-pale face in the dim night looking even more like it had been filtered through a beauty lens—so lovely it was heart-stirring.
“Eh… get in the car?”
Xia Lan turned her head away, refusing to look at those luminous peach-blossom eyes. Her heart was in chaos, her tone sharp.
“It’s already this late! The dorm curfew’s about to start. What, you plan to sleep on the streets?”
Ruan Tang’s eyes widened slightly.
“You’re going to… drive me back to school?”
A flush swept over Xia Lan’s flawless cheeks, but she quickly interrupted.
“It’s just on the way! On the way, got it? Don’t misunderstand! How could I possibly be worried about you walking alone at night? Don’t flatter yourself!!”
Ruan Tang tilted her head. She hadn’t said Xia Lan was worried.
Still, she could hear the concern hidden beneath that prickly tone. Pleased, she stepped closer, tugging lightly on Xia Lan’s sleeve and speaking softly.
“Thank you.”
Xia Lan froze. She didn’t dare look at Ruan Tang’s expression, but the tips of her ears flushed crimson, almost dripping blood.
Her words, though, came out harsh.
“Who asked you to thank me! And let me say this again—there’s no way I’m worried about you! It’s just coincidence, coincidence that I’m heading to school too!”
Just then, the back door of the bar opened.
A beautiful older woman poked her head out.
“Huh, it really is you, Xia Lan. Didn’t you say ten o’clock? We already started drinking without you. How come the birthday girl is so late today?”
Ruan Tang blinked in surprise, turning toward Xia Lan, whose lie had just been exposed. Her face flushed instantly red.
“Today’s your birthday?”
Xia Lan, cornered, dragged Ruan Tang toward her car, muttering darkly.
“Don’t know her. Not close. She mistook me for someone else. Let’s go.”
Ruan Tang stumbled after her, baffled.
The older woman grew angry.
“Hey! You little brat, pretending not to know your own sister? Think you can get away with this nonsense? Need a beating to set you straight?!”
Xia Lan acted like she hadn’t heard, storming off quickly.
But just as they were about to reach the car, Chi Han appeared again.
The tall, broad-shouldered youth grabbed Ruan Tang’s other hand, his puppy-dog eyes beneath his fringe glaring at Xia Lan with fury.
“Who said you could hold Tangtang’s hand?! Let go! Let go right now!”
Xia Lan ignored him, her expression darkening further.
Ruan Tang was pulled to the side of the car, Chi Han clutching her left hand while Xia Lan held her right.
She was caught in the middle, torn between them.
Xia Lan pointed to the passenger seat, her face like ice.
“Get in.”
Chi Han tightened his grip, looking pitifully at Ruan Tang.
“Tangtang, are you going to abandon me?”
Ruan Tang’s heart softened. She hesitantly turned to Xia Lan.
“Could we maybe… take him back to school with us too?”
Murderous light flashed in Xia Lan’s eyes.
Startled, Ruan Tang shrank back.
Xia Lan turned her head away, muttering irritably under her breath.
“What do you think I’m driving, a bus or a taxi…”
But when she turned back, her expression was haughty again. She pointed at Chi Han.
“You—back seat.”
Then at Ruan Tang.
“You—sit beside me.”
“That way I don’t have to watch the two of you pawing at each other while I drive. Disgusting.”
So Chi Han was kicked into the back seat, and Ruan Tang was shoved into the passenger seat.
Xia Lan climbed in after them, slamming the door with a thunderous bang, as if trying to bottle up the fire raging inside her.
Her face dark, she started the car.
But Chi Han wouldn’t stay quiet. From the back, he leaned over the seat, eyes pleading like a little dog.
“Tangtang…”
Ruan Tang gave him a gentle, reassuring smile before turning toward the silent Xia Lan at the wheel.
Her voice was soft and sugary.
“Thank you! You’re such a good person!”
Receiving a “good person” card for no reason, Xia Lan’s face twisted even more.
Ruan Tang didn’t notice, her eyes still shining brightly.
“Can I be your friend?”
The car screeched as Xia Lan stomped the brakes.
She whipped her head around, glaring at Ruan Tang with anger—and a flicker of grievance.
“Who wants to be your friend!!!”
She didn’t need friends! She was Xia Lan, the beloved heiress!
What she wanted was—was…
Something far more special, more exclusive. Something that let her keep Ruan Tang all to herself.
Startled by her outburst, Ruan Tang shrank back, lowering her long lashes timidly.
Her voice was faint, almost a whisper.
“Then… then forget it. I’ll just… consider you my friend on my own, I guess…”
Xia Lan nearly exploded.
Why does she have to look like that?! Why does even her lowered gaze feel like she’s seducing someone?!
Why does just seeing her make my damn heart race out of control?!
She was restless, frustrated—while the culprit remained oblivious, innocently declaring she’d treat her as a “friend.”
How could she not be furious?
That idiot in the back seat got to have an ambiguous master-servant bond, but when it came to her—clean, clear-cut “friendship”?
It was enough to make her jealous. Enough to make her miserable.
Xia Lan’s expression darkened. She reached out suddenly, looping an arm around Ruan Tang’s neck.
Leaning close, her voice dropped into a fierce threat.
“Say one more word of nonsense, and I’ll shut your mouth with something else!”
(t/n: The “good person card” (好人卡) is slang in Chinese referring to being “friendzoned”—receiving gratitude but being rejected romantically. Xia Lan’s fury here is rooted in that dynamic, twisted into yandere-style possessiveness.)
