- Chapter 143 - The Pure-Hearted Zombie King Who Protects Lone Humans (10) Only Clean Hands Can Touch Her
He reached out with bloodstained hands and held them under the showerhead, eyes glowing as he stared at Su Ci.
Once he was clean, he could touch his human again.
Su Ci had her doubts he actually understood what she’d said—he probably just wanted to stay close to her.
She raised a hand to undo the buttons of Lu Yunhe’s coat, then hesitated slightly, embarrassed. The towering man shrank back into the corner, looking at her, unsure what to do.
“Be good. Take off those dirty clothes.”
Lu Yunhe repeated, “Dirty… dirty…”
He bent down and brought the half-unbuttoned coat to her hands, lips pressed tightly together.
There was a strange, hard-to-name feeling crawling around inside him. The clothes felt like armor, shielding him from head to toe—removing them made him feel… exposed.
But his human might dislike him if he was dirty.
When the scented body wash was rubbed over his skin, he shivered with excitement, making strange little gurgling sounds in his throat that expressed his joy.
Originally, Lu Yunhe had planned to quickly scrub himself clean, but being treated so gently had him turning into a big overgrown child, nudging Su Ci playfully with his slippery, foam-covered body.
“Do you like that?”
Su Ci gently massaged his scalp with her fingertips, slowly working her way down. Ever since he’d turned into a zombie, Lu Yunhe’s skin had the feel of smooth, cool jade.
“Like…”
He waited expectantly for her to keep going—but then a fluffy bath sponge was shoved into his hands.
What did that mean?
Lu Yunhe’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.
“The rest, wash yourself.”
It seemed like he understood… or maybe not. He scrubbed randomly at his thigh, then looked up, lips pulled into a pout as he tugged at the hem of Su Ci’s shirt.
“I… you… wash…”
He wanted to help his human get clean too.
“Splat—”
While trying to unbutton her shirt, Lu Yunhe accidentally tore the fabric in half. He looked at it blankly.
“It’s okay, it was dirty anyway.”
Only after receiving her forgiveness did he continue peeling off the inner T-shirt and overly loose camo pants…
As he stripped Su Ci out of her dirty clothes, Lu Yunhe—the ever-curious zombie—pointed at her, then at himself, forming a round “O” with his mouth.
They were different.
He stared blankly at the extra part on himself that humans didn’t have, mimicking the motion of snapping a zombie’s neck with both hands, as if trying to figure out the best way to deal with it.
“Wait—don’t move!”
Su Ci quickly grabbed his restless hands and tied them behind his back using strips of cloth from the torn shirt, then took the bath sponge back to help wash his lower body.
From Lu Yunhe’s perspective, he could see her lowered head, the soft strands of her hair clinging to his legs, winding around him densely.
“It… moved.”
He sounded confused as his gaze locked on a certain spot.
“It’s always alive,” Su Ci replied, exasperated.
“…Didn’t move.”
“It only moves in… special situations.”
Lu Yunhe couldn’t reply. His eyes were rimmed with a misty sheen, staring at his human with wounded longing.
He wanted to help her wash, too.
But he was scared—what if he was too rough and accidentally tore his fragile human apart?
So he knelt obediently on the ground with his hands tied, tilting his head up to let her dry his hair with a towel.
Once they were both clean and dressed in fresh clothes, Lu Yunhe immediately pulled the soft, sweet-smelling Su Ci into his arms and began nibbling on her again. From her hair down to her toes—he didn’t leave out a single spot.
It wasn’t until he realized she was shivering that he quickly wrapped her in his coat, dashed over to the bed, and tucked her into the blankets.
Lu Yunhe didn’t dare climb in after her.
His body was cold.
He might freeze his already weak human if he lay too close.
Not far away was a maternity and baby store. He glanced at an advertisement of a father rocking a baby to sleep, then sat down at the bedside, gently patting Su Ci’s shoulder over the covers.
Zombies didn’t need sleep.
Once she was asleep, he quietly went to clean up the surrounding zombies—never letting her out of his line of sight. Instead, he dragged the dismembered corpses into the elevator.
As for how the elevator doors opened? Don’t worry—Little Lu Zombie had strength and means to spare.
Compared to Su Ci’s relatively good luck, Zhi Han and her boyfriend weren’t so fortunate after leaving the campus. They’d managed to avoid zombies—but not other survivors.
Five thuggish-looking guys on motorcycles stopped in front of them. Their greasy blond hair and lecherous grins spelled nothing good. The one with the bleached perm was already reaching out with wandering hands.
“Babe, your boyfriend looks half-dead. Why not ditch him and live the good life with us?”
He casually tossed a small blue water orb in his hand.
Who would’ve guessed that this lowlife, bitten by a zombie on the very first day of the apocalypse, didn’t just survive—but accidentally awakened a rare water-type ability?
Those who used to scoff at guys like them now bowed and scraped. Even the queen bees from nearby schools groveled at their feet.
So when they saw Zhi Han helping her barely-conscious boyfriend along the road, the gang swarmed her like flies drawn to honey.
“Move.”
Zhi Han stepped aside, but they blocked her path again. One of them even reached for her chest.
She snapped.
With a sharp kick to the groin, the guy howled in pain. But before she could do anything else, the water orb slammed into her and her boyfriend, sending them both to the ground.
Pain exploded across her body.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw the gang walking toward her, belts undone, eyes glinting with malicious anticipation…
Zhi Han closed her eyes in despair.
But the expected violation never came. Instead, the air suddenly crackled with electricity, and the scent of scorched flesh and sizzling meat filled her nose.
Was she hallucinating before death?
She reflexively swallowed.
A sweet, fruity candy was pushed into her mouth. Then, strong arms pulled her up from the ground.
“Glutton Han, wake up.”
That voice—
Zhi Han’s eyes flew open. Hugging her newly-awakened boyfriend, she burst into tears.
“What took you so long?! Do you know how hungry I was?!”
Not far away, the gang of thugs lay twitching violently, skin charred and limbs jerking as arcs of lightning danced around them.
The storm’s source was quickly snuffed out in the palm of her boyfriend’s hand. That clean, strong hand interlaced with hers as they walked together into the sunset.
That night, Lu Yunhe once again heard little gurgles from Su Ci’s belly. He finally relaxed—he hadn’t accidentally overfed and killed the little zombie baby.
He lifted Su Ci onto his shoulder and went upstairs to find food for the two of them. In the baby formula section, he paused for a long moment. All the babies on the posters drank this stuff.
Lu Yunhe grabbed two large cans of formula.
Su Ci stared at him, confused.
“…Are you planning to raise me like a child?”
But this was the apocalypse—whatever was edible was fair game. Drinking formula wasn’t the weirdest thing anymore.
Lu Yunhe had evolved fast. Just a few hours ago, he didn’t even know how to bathe. Now, under Su Ci’s guidance, he could boil dumplings and cook frozen meals with ease.
While cooking, he scrunched his nose, clearly bothered by something. He opened his mouth, trying to speak, but only odd grunts came out.
Su Ci stood on tiptoe and put a mask over his face.
“It’s the smell of rotten food. A bit gross.”
The supermarket’s hot food section was large and hadn’t been cleaned yet—it was bound to stink.
Lu Yunhe followed her example.
“Gross…”
As she ate, he busied himself cleaning up, hauling pots and pans, and using brute strength to relocate the gas stove to a cleaner spot.
That way, it wouldn’t smell next time they cooked.
Once she was done eating, he somehow found a baby bottle no bigger than his palm. After checking the temperature, he offered the warm formula to her.
“Drink.”
With a strong, handsome face glowing with happiness and tenderness, Lu Yunhe looked like he was radiating paternal love. Su Ci was starting to suspect he really thought of her as his daughter now.
Mini Theater
Lu: That’s right. My wife and I already have an unborn child.
As for whose child it is… not important.
If I raise it, it’s mine.
