- Chapter 255 - The Infatuated Demon Lord Talks Pure Love with the Furnace Junior Sister (16) - "You’re the One Who Stole Me—So Take Responsibility!"
Qi Linchen walked into the palace hall.
His tattered robe fluttered in the wind, and wounds of varying sizes were exposed to the air. The dark magic energy leaking from them dripped onto the ground, leaving behind intermittent stains of blood.
Ye Yunhe’s mouth twitched. So the mighty Demon Lord actually bleeds when he’s injured?
What a once-in-a-millennium spectacle.
Before she could react, he turned into a wisp of mist, grabbed her, and burst through the roof. A fierce, merciless attack swept toward her.
“Right Protector! Right Protector!”
“Demon Lord, you’re invincible!”
Above the clouds, the two clashed fiercely, thunder and lightning tearing through the sky. Below, the demons cheered wildly, one more excited than the next.
After nearly an hour, a battered, ink-black figure slowly fell from the sky. Su Ci rushed forward to catch him.
There wasn’t a single inch of uninjured flesh on Qi Linchen.
There were the old cuts and gashes from Xuantian Sect, now layered with the fresh whip wounds from Ye Yunhe—raw flesh turned inside out, a gruesome sight.
The magic energy oozing from his wounds almost seemed sentient, curling around Su Ci like a possessive shroud.
“It hurts… so much…”
He barely opened his eyes, a wet sheen glinting at the corners.
Trembling, he pulled something iridescent from his robes and held it out to Su Ci. “The Glass Cauldron… I brought it for you. Do you like it?”
“I do. I really do… But why were you still fighting when you’re this hurt? I didn’t drink his wine! Don’t talk—let me take you back to rest and heal.”
Su Ci tucked away the glass cauldron, avoided touching his mangled wounds, and carried Qi Linchen back toward his bedchamber.
Just then, Ye Yunhe descended lightly, whip in hand, dumbfounded as she pointed at Qi Linchen.
“What happened to him? Old internal injuries flaring up?”
Nearby, a low-ranking demon rolled his eyes. “Didn’t the Right Protector just beat him up? How can you act so clueless now?”
Can’t you see how heartbroken Fairy Su looks?
Ye Yunhe pointed at her own nose, stunned. “You’re saying I hurt him? What kind of joke is this? I didn’t even touch his sleeve!”
To prove she wasn’t lying, she waited until Su Ci was far enough, then loosened her robes.
Her pale back was covered in black bruises, splintered bone nails embedded in her skin—gruesome and unmistakably Qi Linchen’s handiwork.
Most in the hall had already shared intimate nights with her, so she didn’t care about modesty.
Several male consorts teared up at the sight of her injuries, scrambling to pull the nails out and treat her wounds.
The opera singer, being a mortal, couldn’t help much and simply stood by offering tactical advice.
“Right Protector underestimated her opponent. The Demon Lord played the pain card. Now that you’re injured and pretending otherwise, it only makes the Fairy pity him more.”
Ye Yunhe paused. What he said… made sense. Qi Linchen had picked a fight and then feigned weakness—now she was the villain.
She waved everyone off.
“Leave me. I won’t treat the wounds. Leave two who are good with makeup—make the bruises look worse, and put more powder on my face. Pale. As pale as possible.”
Su Ci carried Qi Linchen all the way back to his chambers.
He felt so light, as if all the weight in his body had been drained along with the blood. His face was ashen, lips devoid of color, and he trembled from the pain.
As a medical cultivator, Su Ci knew some remedies for treating demons, but she was still missing a few herbs.
She stripped off his blood-soaked robes and tended to his wounds. Just as she was about to get up and ask Mufeng for the missing ingredients, her wrist was caught.
“I’m not letting you go. Not again.”
By the glow of the night pearl, his violet eyes glimmered with a bottomless depth, like a swamp ready to drag her under.
Su Ci touched his sweat-drenched forehead.
“Don’t worry. I’m just asking someone to bring you medicine. You’ll feel better after taking it.”
Qi Linchen stared at her with pleading eyes, still gripping her wrist.
“I’m not taking it.”
He was still angry. Hours had passed and she hadn’t even brought up Mo Yu once!
Not only was she unbothered, she even had the time to drink and flirt with that fox-faced group of gigolos in Ye Yunhe’s palace. What did they have that he didn’t? He was going to sulk!
Su Ci sat at the edge of the bed, tapping his cold cheekbone. She brushed past his long lashes and wiped away the wet beads clinging to them, her fingers now damp with warmth.
“How can you get better if you don’t take medicine?”
Qi Linchen didn’t want a lecture. He turned away and inched further toward the wall, sulking hard.
Why hasn’t she asked about Mo Yu yet?
Is it that hard to say the name?
He waited and waited. The space behind him stayed empty. When he finally turned to look, she was dozing off, head bobbing, forehead nearly hitting the bedframe.
He slapped the pillow in irritation.
“The bed’s huge. Can’t you get on by yourself? Do I have to beg you? Making an injured man sleep on a cold plank—is that good for recovery?”
Well… that made sense.
Su Ci gave it a thought, then slowly unfastened her sash. Her robes cascaded down like peeled bamboo, layer after layer, revealing the tenderest core within.
Qi Linchen still had his back to her, seething with frustration.
“What’s taking so long? Sleeping in my bed is that big a deal? Are you thinking about that—”
Snake.
He nearly blurted it out, but managed to swallow the word just in time—right before something soft and warm pressed against his back.
Qi Linchen froze, not daring to breathe.
S-She…
Why the hell did she take everything off?!
He had no such intentions! He just wanted her to lie down beside him.
The blanket was already warm—he didn’t need her to warm it up. He was just mad she was treating him like a stranger.
She used to hold him to sleep every night.
Wicked woman! Shamelessly abandoning him!
Su Ci wrapped her arms around his waist.
She moved carefully to avoid aggravating his wounds. Her featherlight teasing, however, only made things worse for him. His Adam’s apple bobbed uncontrollably.
He swallowed hard, hoping she wouldn’t notice, muscles so tense his legs began to cramp.
“What’s wrong? Are you in pain?”
Qi Linchen glanced down.
“No. Just go to sleep.”
Pain? No pain at all! He felt amazing!
Su Ci, on the other hand, couldn’t sleep.
She had a nagging feeling something was off with him—like he was throwing a silent tantrum.
He still had his back to her.
Not good to go to bed angry.
Especially when he was this badly hurt.
“Qi Linchen?”
“…”
“Demon Lord?”
“Stop talking. I’m asleep.”
Su Ci leaned forward and kissed the edge of his ear.
“Mo Yu, look at me.”
The moment she whispered that name, Qi Linchen’s breath caught.
His heart thundered in his ears, sending shocks through every nerve ending.
So… she knew? She really knew everything?
No, no—so what if she did?
What, was he supposed to admit he was throwing a fit because he was a petty, jealous man?
He was the Demon Lord. He still had dignity.
So he refused.
“Mo Yu who? Don’t know him. Is he some ex of yours? Always bringing him up. I’m the one who stole you back. I’m your man!”
Su Ci pouted. “But you won’t even look at me. Like you don’t want me around. Are you upset about Mo Yu? Then why bring me back at all?”
“No, I’m not!”
Qi Linchen’s chest tightened. He couldn’t keep up the act anymore—he flipped over and pulled her into his arms.
That pitiful tone of hers—how was he supposed to resist it? It made his heart ache like crazy.
Once she was securely tucked in his embrace, he looked down at her fluttering lashes and flushed cheeks, only to realize—
Wait. He was sleeping with his back turned for a reason!
It wasn’t because he didn’t care.
It was because he was… you know… that.
She totally did this on purpose.
Su Ci watched his expression twist and turn, his whole face reddening like a cooked shrimp. She blinked, then burst into a silent smile.
He was avoiding her all because of… that?
Su Ci lifted her knee and gently nudged against him, then leaned close to whisper in his ear.
“I just remembered… there’s a way to heal without taking any medicine. Want to try it?”
