But to Jin Ran’s surprise, things didn’t just stop at “heartbreaking”—they somehow got worse.
After reviewing the photos and evidence he posted, the comment section went silent for two whole minutes… and then exploded.
[365F: Are you kidding me? Stealing selfies now? Sure, you can steal photos of Feng Yan, but can you steal his skills? His girlfriend?]
[366F: ??? I’m pretty sure that gold medal in the modeling competition was won by Feng Yan’s team. OP, have a little shame.]
[367F: Look at the bottom-right of the garage photo. That black Ferrari is identical to Feng Yan’s—same license plate number and everything!]
…
[513F: Mystery solved. Disperse, everyone. Based on my theory, OP is Feng Yan. This was all just a creative new way to show off his relationship.]
[514F: Damn it, just realized the OP’s username is “Yan”! Feng Yan, you heartless bastard—does walking us around like dogs amuse you?!]
[515F: Honestly, I envy you bizarre, incomprehensible men who somehow get to date Su Ci. You must’ve burned through all your good karma.]
…
Jin Ran stared blankly at the replies: “???”
Seriously? A username means nothing! Who says “Yan” has to mean Feng Yan? It could just as easily be the homonym for ‘flame’!
And those awards—what, only Feng Yan’s allowed to compete and win now?
Jin Ran refused to accept it. Academically, he was no worse than that bookworm Feng Yan.
Just as he was about to open his certificates and point to his name to shut them all up, a thought struck him. Instead, he quietly put the trophies away… and deleted his forum account.
There was no need to fall into the trap of constantly proving himself. These people were clearly jealous of his Little Vase and couldn’t stand that he was better than them. Their only weapon was smearing him from behind a keyboard.
Sure, their words were nasty—but there was some truth under the venom:
Abandon morality. Embrace yourself. An eye for an eye. A tooth for a tooth!
If he wanted to solve this problem at the root, he had to make Little Vase come back to him.
If Feng Yan could seduce her away, there was no reason he couldn’t seduce her back.
With that settled, Jin Ran flung open his closet and picked out a few outfits that showed off his best features. One by one, he tried them on in front of the mirror.
A bomber jacket?
A sporty hoodie?
Denim overalls?
After much deliberation, Jin Ran stepped out of the house wearing a sleek, all-black suit. The buttons were fastened up to his collarbone, his tie was meticulously straightened, and he even clipped on a refined tie bar.
He didn’t realize this was the exact outfit Feng Yan had worn in one of the trending posts.
And he certainly wasn’t going to admit he was mimicking Feng Yan’s OOTD.
(Professional stylists say: The more you cover, the sexier you are.)
Since he was out to win Little Vase back, he had to dress the way she liked. As for Feng Yan? Ha—he was just giving that guy a taste of his own medicine.
After getting dressed, Jin Ran used hairspray and a blow dryer to style his hair into a soft, natural part, just like the tutorials online for a “youthful” look.
Once every detail was perfect, he grabbed his car keys and drove straight to the hotel where Little Vase was staying—Halfday Inn.
And of course, he drove a black Ferrari, just like Feng Yan’s.
Jin Ran believed, deep down, that Little Vase definitely had feelings for him. After all, why else would she hug him earlier that afternoon? Why else would she tell him her room number?
Wasn’t that… her way of inviting him to sneak in tonight?
At the front desk, the receptionist greeted him politely without stopping him.
“Good evening, sir. Are you here to see Miss Su Ci? This way, please—I’ll take you up.”
A rush of sweetness bloomed in Jin Ran’s chest, his heart thudding wildly.
She really did have a crush on him. How thoughtful—she even instructed the receptionist to bring him upstairs. She must be so eager to see him.
But his smile froze just seconds later.
Wait—what if… she had brought Feng Yan here before?
What if the receptionist recognized his face only because it resembled Feng Yan’s?
And if they recognized his face, it must’ve been more than once.
Instantly, Jin Ran’s expression tightened, lips pressed into a line, and a storm surged in his dark eyes. A bone-chilling tension radiated from his entire body.
The receptionist was baffled. What’s up with this guy? With that icy face and grim aura… was he going upstairs to catch someone cheating?
Miss Su had always lived alone. She’d never brought anyone home before. In fact, she’d even asked the receptionist to keep an eye out for this man. How could he act like he’d been wronged?
Typical man—blessed but ungrateful. All men are pigs!
Worried he might hurt Miss Su, the receptionist led him to the door but refused to leave. She stood nearby, watching closely as he raised his hand to knock.
Jin Ran lifted his hand—then dropped it again.
Even though he had total confidence in his charm, this was his first time trying to seduce someone. It felt a little… awkward.
And now there was a stranger watching him? So embarrassing. How annoying.
Just as he hesitated, the door opened from the inside.
The girl he’d been dying to see stood at the entrance, her porcelain-smooth face lighting up with a dazzling smile.
“Jin Ran, what took you so long? I’ve been waiting forever.”
“W-Waiting for me?”
Not… for her boyfriend Feng Yan?
Or was it that Feng Yan had been busy with experiments and papers and couldn’t make it, so she was treating him—Jin Ran—as a substitute? A disposable toy?
But no—she’d clearly said his name.
That alone was enough to make his heart race, blood boil, head spin.
The world seemed to mute itself. In his eyes, there was only her face. In his ears, only her voice. He didn’t even notice the receptionist quietly slipping away.
“Aren’t you coming in?”
Jin Ran’s throat was dry as he asked cautiously, “W-What are we… doing?”
A hotel room, late at night, just the two of them…
He turned his head away, black eyes swirling with nervous embarrassment. His ears flushed red.
Su Ci’s fox-like eyes curved into a smile. She reached out and gently pulled his large hand into the room, as if discovering a hidden treasure.
“Whatever you want. Or… did you just come to look at me and leave?”
“Of course not.”
He was here to win her over. To seduce her and bring her home for good.
Whatever you want—wasn’t that a bit… too fast? Feng Yan must’ve been really disappointing if she had to sneak around like this.
Lost in that malicious assumption, Jin Ran didn’t notice the way his smile stretched almost to his ears. All he could think was that his Little Vase had been waiting, hoping, for him to come.
Even if she liked him, Jin Ran reminded himself—he was a man of principle.
“You already have a boyfriend. This… isn’t right.”
He looked down at their intertwined hands. Her fingers were soft and slender—just holding them made him dizzy with desire.
Su Ci froze for a moment, then realized—he must’ve seen the rumors online and thought she and Feng Yan were an item.
Technically true, but emotionally… Jin Ran and Feng Yan didn’t share memories. Bringing him here like this was a bit much.
Even if she told him the truth now, he wouldn’t believe her.
Su Ci let go. “Sorry. If you’re uncomfortable, I won’t stop you from leaving.”
But Jin Ran immediately grabbed her hand again and pushed her gently against the wall, eyes rimmed with wet red jealousy.
“I want to stay. I won’t leave. Let’s date in secret. We won’t tell him, okay?”
He had only hesitated for a second, and she let go just like that.
It hurt like hell.
All the more reason he couldn’t let go now.
With her trapped in his arms, Su Ci looked up seriously and met his gaze.
“Jin Ran, are you asking to be my secret lover?”
His face turned crimson, Adam’s apple bobbing, chest rising with sharp breaths. His warm breath brushed across her forehead.
“Yeah. I want to be.”
The boy, usually so proud and defiant, looked utterly pitiful.
Su Ci reached up, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him lightly to soothe him.
“Then I’m your sugar mama now. Jin Ran, how much allowance should I give you each month?”
Jin Ran, still dazed from the feather-light kiss, blurted out a sky-high price without thinking—
“Ten million—is that okay?”
