- Chapter 8 - The Young Master Who Tried to Bribe His Tutor (8)
Qi Du had chewed her soft, fair shoulder until it was slick with moisture.
It was like she really was his fever remedy—and his tranquilizer too. Once he touched her, he couldn’t stop. He just wanted to devour her whole.
Finally, he lifted his head, looking like a good student begging for praise. Smacking his reddened lips with lingering satisfaction, he mumbled,
“I took the medicine, Su… mmf—”
Mid-sentence, the boy started to cry in Su Ci’s arms.
Delirious from fever, he sobbed and choked with grievance, blurting out everything he should and shouldn’t say.
“I’m sorry… I just wanted to lock you up and have you teach only me, okay? Sob… I didn’t mean to make you so uncomfortable…”
Uncle Zhong: “…”
Even with his generous Qi family salary, he couldn’t help but mentally roast his young master. Kid, are you serious? Do you even know what illegal confinement means?
The boy’s clear voice was now fogged with tears. When it fell against Su Ci’s ear, it sounded like a pitiful little puppy whimpering and yelping softly.
Su Ci wrapped her arms around his slender waist and soothed him like she was petting a small animal, her free hand gently tousling his messy dark hair.
“Okay. I promise. I’ll only tutor you, A’Du.”
The system had arranged for Su Ci to enter this world with a background not too different from the original host’s, but she had no intention of giving a single cent to her biological family.
The hourly pay from Madam Qi was already generous enough—Su Ci had no need for any other side gigs.
Besides, she wasn’t interested in tutoring anyone else.
She and Qi Du were the same kind of people.
Fragile, sensitive, neurotic. Twisted. Possessive and obsessive to a terrifying degree—enough to drive anyone sane mad.
She looked toward the housekeeper.
“Uncle Zhong, you can go now. Leave the medicine and sugar water here. I’ll make sure A’Du finishes it.”
Having lived more than half his life, Uncle Zhong suddenly felt enlightened.
Such an excessive request from the young master, yet Miss Su agreed without hesitation? And she was even coaxing him so gently?
This felt like a dream. And not even a dream could conjure up a girl as kind and gentle as Miss Su.
He set down the tray, looked at Su Ci with the affection of a father figure, and then gave his young master a glare full of disappointment and begrudging love.
Rotten brat. Lucky little bastard. Only someone like Miss Su would put up with your nonsense.
Once Uncle Zhong left, only Su Ci and Qi Du remained in the room.
The boy sat there with a tuft of messy hair sticking up, dazed for a while before he fully understood what Su Ci had said.
He wiped away his tears and hugged her tightly, grinning like an overgrown child.
But the moment she held the medicine to his lips, he got sulky again. His eyes searched hers eagerly.
“Then… lock…”
He whispered two barely audible syllables. Even what little reason he had left told him it was too much to ask.
But he just wanted it so badly—couldn’t she stay?
Don’t go off dating some other guy. He was a boy too. He was grown up now. He could go on dates with Teacher Su.
“You mean… you want to lock me up?”
Qi Du nodded vigorously, then grew embarrassed and buried his face in her neck, too afraid to hear her refusal.
“Alright, but only for two days,” Su Ci negotiated with a smile.
“On Monday, you have to go back to school with me for classes, okay?”
Qi Du gulped down the medicine, then suddenly slapped himself twice.
It didn’t hurt.
Must be a dream.
Why else would Su Teacher keep rewarding me like this?
I haven’t even started today’s lesson yet…
And if this was a dream…
Qi Du’s bright eyes sparkled with mischief. He sat up, took off Su Ci’s shoes, pulled her slim waist close, and carried her to the bed, wrapping her up tightly in a blanket.
The air conditioner was on full blast, but Su Ci didn’t feel cold at all with the feverish boy pressed against her like a hot stove.
Qi Du clung to her like an octopus, mumbling,
“Teacher Su… this kinda feels like we’re sneaking around… won’t your boyfriend get mad?”
“No, no, definitely not. Teacher’s just showing me how to rest when I’m sick. I won’t do anything bad to her…”
“…”
“Teacher… Su-Su, Ci-bao… soft… can I just snuggle a little?”
The feverish boy babbled on for quite some time before finally quieting down, his breathing growing even and steady.
So obedient. Su Ci couldn’t help but kiss the bridge of his nose.
…
Teen boys in puberty were hard to manage—especially after a string of gaming losses.
An Kefan had to plead and threaten, her voice nearly hoarse, before finally convincing Xu Tao to study for two hours in exchange for some rank boosting in the game later.
Xu Tao didn’t buy it.
“You? A top student who plays games? I’m the MVP in my class! If I lose stars, you’re dead meat!”
That pissed her off.
“It’s just Honor of Kings, what’s the big deal? I hit Rank One on the national server before. I’ve earned six national badges in one season. And you think I can’t carry you?”
In her past life, she could casually dominate the game. Her roommates had all envied her and begged to queue with her every time she played.
Xu Tao squinted at her.
“Wasn’t it your boyfriend playing on your account? Top rankers are either streamers or pros. You’re full of it.”
So what if Qi Du had played on her account before? She never asked him to. And besides, she’d reached the top rank herself.
Fuming, An Kefan tried to prove herself but realized—she hadn’t even registered a new game account yet.
Quickly locking her phone, she muttered,
“Didn’t find it fun anymore, so I uninstalled it. Now go do your exercises. I keep my promises.”
Once Xu Tao started his workbook, she found an old AC unit behind the curtains. Plugged it in, cranked it to the lowest setting—16°C.
An hour later, Xu Tao hesitated,
“Um… should we turn the AC off? I’m kinda cold… and my mom’s coming home soon.”
They never dared turn on the AC at home. The electricity bill was too high—he’d get scolded for it.
An Kefan, wrapped in a jacket, snapped,
“Your room’s tiny and stuffy. What, you want me to die in here? It’s just AC, don’t be so cheap.”
Feeling thirsty, she remembered the mom had mentioned fruit in the fridge.
The lychees were pitifully small. The bayberries looked dull, nearly brown. Barely a pound of each.
She rinsed the bayberries and tried one—it was so sour she nearly gagged. She dumped them straight into the trash.
The lychees weren’t much better—small, not sweet, hardly juicy—but cold enough to be refreshing. She peeled and ate most of them in the kitchen, leaving just three.
On the way to give Xu Tao some, she popped two more into her mouth.
She didn’t feel the least bit guilty. If anything, she resented the hosts. Who serves such crappy fruit to guests? Couldn’t even buy more?
Xu Tao didn’t think much when she only gave him three. He even offered one back.
“Why not bring more? You should have some too.”
An Kefan coldly declined.
“No thanks. I don’t like lychees.”
When Xu Tao’s mom came back and saw the trash can filled with bayberries, her heart nearly broke.
Mixed with the leftovers and sour food, the bright red bayberries were soaked and ruined.
She’d never bought such expensive fruit before. Only did this time because her son begged for it.
An Kefan appeared in the kitchen doorway,
“Auntie, I heard you earlier—did something happen?”
The woman was picking out bayberries from the trash, rinsing them one by one in a basin.
She didn’t suspect anything.
“Oh, Little An, did you knock them over by accident? It’s fine, I can wash them. These go for over thirty yuan a pound, you know!”
An Kefan said nothing. Her eyes showed only disgust and contempt.
This whole family’s so cheap and gross.
Thirty yuan? That wouldn’t even buy one of the bayberries I used to eat.
Later, the mom brought the cleaned bayberries to her son. Xu Tao ate two, but something tasted… off. Kind of sour. Maybe even rancid.
Must’ve absorbed odors from the leftovers in the fridge.
“Mom, where are the lychees? I told you I wanted those too!”
The mom blinked, confused.
“Didn’t you already eat them? I only bought a pound. The peels are still in the kitchen bag.”
