Song Tan’s Chronicle - Chapter 73
Song Tan crouched down, letting spiritual energy gather in her palms. She clapped her hands:
“Come to me if you like me!”
In an instant, the energy dispersed like smoke between her hands. Sun Shouping, initially smiling, soon looked increasingly astonished.
All of his dogs perked up their ears and looked alert!
The next moment, they all rushed over!
“Woof!”
Song Tan laughed heartily, crouching as the dogs surrounded her. Furry heads pushed their way to her hands, wet noses nudging for attention, only to be pushed aside by other eager dogs.
From a distance, Song Tan was completely hidden by the furry mass.
Sun Shouping was stunned. Although he had instructed the dogs to impress their potential new owner, they were performing too well!
Were they that eager to abandon him?
Feeling a bit sour, he clapped his hands to draw their attention.
“Sit!”
The dogs hesitated briefly before reluctantly retreating, sitting obediently on the grass. However, their eyes remained fixed on Song Tan, looking wet and pitiful, enough to tug at anyone’s heartstrings.
Song Tan stood up awkwardly—the dogs’ breath had a strong odor!
Surrounded by all these dogs, she felt enveloped by their heavy breathing. It wasn’t until she had dispersed all the spiritual energy in her hands that they finally calmed down.
She couldn’t handle it any longer.
Sun Shouping sighed. “Now I believe you’re a natural with animals.”
“Alright, pick whichever you want. How many are you taking?”
Choosing was going to be difficult; they were all adorable.
Song Tan looked troubled. “Brother Sun, you haven’t told me the price yet.”
Sun Shouping smiled. “Yanping already discussed it with me—I’ll just charge you the cost price, 3,000 yuan each.”
For purebred dogs, especially of the quality he raised, 3,000 yuan barely covered their food and vaccination costs.
But Sun Shouping wasn’t out to lose money for a friend, so he added a condition:
“They’re all in their prime, males and females. To ensure their vitality, I haven’t neutered them.”
“So, you can take the dogs for 3,000 yuan each, but for breeding, I hope you’ll bring them back here. If it’s inconvenient, I can come to you.”
“Any puppies from the first year belong to me. After that, I’ll buy any future pups from you at market price.”
Song Tan was relieved.
Trained dogs, especially those with bloodlines, could be very expensive.
She had admired the dogs but worried about the cost.
Now, at 3,000 yuan each, the psychological burden was much lighter. She had set a budget of 20,000 yuan, so this was well within her means.
To Song Tan, living comfortably was what mattered. Money was just a means to an end.
But from Wu Lan’s perspective, she’d likely just climb a tree branch in frustration…
What use was cultivation against a mother’s wrath?
“Deal!”
She agreed immediately.
However—
“Male dogs can breed no more than twice a year, and female dogs should only have one litter per year. They must also choose their mates. If I decide to keep any puppies, they can’t be sold to you.”
“Deal!”
Sun Shouping was pleased. Finding good homes for his dogs was most important.
With the terms settled, Song Tan began choosing from the obediently seated dogs.
She had little experience picking dogs, so she decided to cheat a bit—
She let a tiny wisp of spiritual energy linger on her fingertip, then wiggled it.
In an instant!
Four dogs turned their heads, eyes locked onto her finger.
Got it!
No need to overthink it; these dogs were the most sensitive to spiritual energy. They’d adjust faster.
Song Tan started naming them—
“That black and yellow one.”
“The one with the sharp, high ears.”
“The one with the short ears and all-black fur.”
“The yellow one with the long face.”
She pointed them out to Sun Shouping.
He blinked, then chuckled:
“Yanping said you were a novice! Yet you picked the best ones for both build and obedience at a glance. He told me to explain everything to you?”
Though he was puzzled—Song Tan seemed unsure of the breeds, suggesting she was a novice.
In any case, she picked a German Shepherd, a Cane Corso, a Malinois, and a Doberman—four prime dogs.
Three males and one female.
Sun Shouping brought them out for her to see.
“The long-faced yellow one is a Malinois.”
“The black and yellow one is a German Shepherd, a female.”
“The short-eared one is a Cane Corso. Their ears are usually cropped young to prevent injury in fights.”
“And this is our most handsome Doberman.”
The four dogs stood tall and alert. When their cool, wet noses touched Song Tan’s hand, she felt a flutter in her heart.
Though she chose the top dogs, Sun Shouping cautioned:
“My kennel’s policy is that the owner can only take one puppy if their dog breeds with mine.”
“While mixed breeds can be excellent, many prefer purebreds. If you want consistent breeding, choose matching pairs or all one breed.”
Song Tan shook her head. “I’m not breeding for profit. I don’t care about breed consistency.”
Dogs could live up to twenty years. If she chose matching pairs and ended up selling the puppies, it would be painful.
While Sun Shouping seemed kind, it was still a concern.
“This is good.”
She smiled.
“I originally planned for five dogs, but these four will do for now.”
