Chapter 20: Powerful Assault, Desperate Kill
Seeing the situation unfold, Liang Yu quickly radioed Dongfang Ke.
“Dongfang Captain, this is Liang Yu’s team. There’s a mutated zombie heading your way. Evacuate immediately, I repeat, evacuate immediately!”
Dongfang Ke received the message and responded at once.
“Dongfang Ke’s team received. Understood.”
She stood up, but it was already too late. The A-level zombie had arrived.
The towering two-meter-tall creature was charging toward them. Dongfang Ke broke into a cold sweat at the sight. ‘What the hell is this thing?’
The A-level zombie spotted Dongfang Ke’s team and went into sprint mode, smashing through cars in its path as it barreled toward them.
“Run! Everyone, run!” Dongfang Ke shouted.
The four other soldiers didn’t need to be told twice. They turned and ran as fast as they could.
Liang Yu watched all of this through his scope, thinking, ‘These guys are in serious trouble.’
Still, following the principle that saving a life is worth more than building a seven-story pagoda, Liang Yu packed up his sniper rifle and approached Lai Qingxue.
“Lai Qingxue, we need to move!”
“Got it!”
Lai Qingxue stood up and followed Liang Yu as they made their way down.
On the way, Liang Yu radioed Hong Shan, who was in the middle of his own ordeal.
Just moments ago, one of Hong Shan’s teammates had been bitten by a zombie, and Hong Shan had to put him down himself.
This was a brother he had fought alongside, and now he was gone. Of course, Hong Shan was devastated.
But there was no time to grieve. After hearing Liang Yu’s warning, Hong Shan quickly gathered his remaining team members and headed downstairs to rendezvous with Dongfang Ke.
In the elevator, Lai Qingxue noticed the tension on Liang Yu’s face and asked, “Liang Yu, what’s happening outside?”
Liang Yu didn’t hide the truth. There was no point—she’d see it for herself soon enough.
When she heard about the mutated zombie, Lai Qingxue slumped against the wall. Fortunately, Liang Yu was quick to catch her.
“How can this be!? Why are there so many mutated zombies!?” Lai Qingxue said, her voice trembling.
Just two days ago, Li Cheng had died because of an A-level zombie. Now another one had appeared, and even bullets couldn’t take it down.
It was a lot to process, and anyone would struggle to accept it.
But Liang Yu remained calm. He steadied Lai Qingxue and said, “Don’t worry, I’ve got this.”
Hearing this, Lai Qingxue thought Liang Yu was planning to sacrifice himself to buy them time to escape, just like Li Cheng had done.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she threw her arms around Liang Yu, sobbing, “You idiot, I won’t let you sacrifice yourself!”
Liang Yu was stunned. ‘What is this girl thinking!?’
He gently pulled Lai Qingxue away and looked at her seriously. “Lai Qingxue, what are you talking about? It’s just a mutated zombie. I’m not going to die.”
“Then why did you say it like that!” Lai Qingxue asked, her voice still shaky.
Liang Yu frowned. ‘Does she really think I’m going to sacrifice myself?’
(tln : guys, is this like stockholm syndrome? is there any term about girls fall in love with men at the dire time? please do comment it guys)
“I meant that I’m going to kill the zombie. Stop overthinking things!”
“You’re so annoying!” Lai Qingxue pouted, playfully hitting Liang Yu’s chest with her fists.
Liang Yu chuckled, watching her lightly punch him. ‘I think I might actually like her.’

Outside, as Dongfang Ke’s team fled, Hong Shan and his remaining three teammates suddenly burst out of a nearby building, nearly scaring Dongfang Ke to death.
Seeing Hong Shan’s team, Dongfang Ke didn’t need to ask to know they had suffered casualties. Her heart ached, but now wasn’t the time for sorrow. The mutated zombie was still chasing them, and if they didn’t keep running, they’d all be turned into zombies.
At the next corner, Liang Yu and Lai Qingxue emerged.
Dongfang Ke, panting, asked, “What the hell is that thing chasing us?”
“A mutated zombie. It’s an A-level,” Liang Yu replied, cutting the explanation short. “We can talk later. Right now, we need to figure out how to kill it!”
Hong Shan, noticing the KM80 sniper rifle on Liang Yu’s back, said, “Old Liang, use your sniper rifle!”
“I tried. It doesn’t work!” Liang Yu shot down the idea immediately. “Bullets can’t penetrate it!”
“Are you kidding me!? If that’s the case, we’ll have to fight it head-on. I refuse to believe we can’t take down one zombie with all of us!” Hong Shan shouted, frustrated.
Liang Yu grinned, “Now you’re talking!”
Everyone was stunned. ‘How can he be excited about fighting a zombie!?’
Before anyone could respond, Liang Yu suddenly stopped, bringing the group to a halt. He turned to face the oncoming zombie, cracking his neck as he prepared for battle.
Seeing Liang Yu stop, Dongfang Ke raised her fist, signaling everyone to hold their positions.
“Prepare to engage!”
If they were going to fight, they had to give it everything they had.
But just as they were about to open fire, Liang Yu shouted, “Hold your fire! This one’s mine!”
Everyone was confused. What was Liang Yu planning?
In the next second, the A-level zombie was only three meters away. Liang Yu leaped onto the car’s door handle, launching himself into the air, and threw a powerful punch at the zombie.
The air seemed to crackle as his fist tore through it, landing with a thunderous impact on the zombie’s chest, sending it stumbling back a few steps.
Dongfang Ke and the others were dumbfounded. ‘Is this really happening? Is he fighting a zombie with his bare hands?’
Liang Yu landed and immediately followed up with more punches. The zombie, not to be outdone, swung its fists in return.
When their fists collided, the shockwave flipped nearby cars. The sheer power left everyone in awe.
Hong Shan was especially shocked. ‘Is this really the same Liang Yu I knew?’
First, he had drifted the cockroach vehicle through the city, and now he was trading blows with a mutated zombie. ‘The old Liang Yu must be dead. This one’s definitely an alien!’
‘Yeah, that’s it! This whole zombie apocalypse must have been caused by aliens!’
Hong Shan’s imagination was running wild. With a mind like that, he could have been a screenwriter.
Back to the fight, Liang Yu and the zombie’s battle intensified, with both of them moving faster and faster.
Their fists were a blur, too fast for the eye to follow. But one thing was clear: neither of them had landed a solid hit yet. It was all fist-to-fist combat.
Suddenly, Liang Yu’s speed increased again. His single punch became ten, raining down on the zombie like a storm. The zombie was forced back, unable to retaliate.
But this rapid assault was taking a toll on Liang Yu. Even with his enhanced physical abilities, he couldn’t keep throwing punches like this for long.
Feeling the strain in his muscles, Liang Yu decided to end it with one final move. He leaped into the air, twisting his body 360 degrees, and delivered a powerful kick to the zombie’s face.
The zombie tried to fight back, but Liang Yu didn’t give it a chance. He kept applying pressure, forcing the zombie’s head off with sheer force.
Everyone was stunned as Liang Yu landed gracefully, following up with a spinning kick that sent the zombie’s headless body flying.
