Chapter 7: Creating an Explosion, No Survivors
Lai Qingxue approached Liang Yu and asked, “What about you?”
Already lying down, Hong Shan chuckled, “He’s a night owl. He can go a whole day and night without sleep.”
“Alright, campus belle, get some sleep. We’ve got zombies to clear tomorrow!”
With that, Hong Shan pulled up his blanket and went to sleep.
Liang Yu, wearing headphones, smiled at Lai Qingxue and pointed to the game’s start screen, “You sleep. I’m just getting started!”
Lai Qingxue was speechless; playing games during the apocalypse was a first for her.
Seeing Liang Yu so focused, she said nothing, climbing the stairs to his bed.
Covered with Liang Yu’s blanket, she found it true—he might be a homebody, but he was clean.
His blanket had a faint fragrance, like flowers, and with that scent, Lai Qingxue drifted into a peaceful sleep.
Below, Liang Yu gamed intensely, as if it were any other day, as if the apocalypse and zombies didn’t exist outside.
Time flew by, and soon it was the next day. Liang Yu finished his last game, washed his face outside, and instantly felt refreshed.
Returning inside, he saw Lai Qingxue stretching lazily on his bed, looking content.
“Awake?” Liang Yu asked.
Lai Qingxue nodded, then got up to wash, using Liang Yu’s toothpaste and toothbrush!
This left Liang Yu momentarily stunned!
After freshening up, Lai Qingxue looked at Liang Yu with wide eyes, “What’s wrong?”
Liang Yu shook his head quickly, “Nothing, come eat!”
They went inside to eat, and Hong Shan joined them.
Hong Shan and Liang Yu discussed their next move.
Liang Yu took a bite of bread and said, “Hong Shan, I’m thinking of going down to kill some zombies. What do you think?”
After a night of gaming, Liang Yu was filled with animosity towards zombies, especially after failing the last level’s boss—it was too tough.
He transferred his in-game hatred for zombies to the real world.
Hong Shan looked at Liang Yu’s disgruntled face and said, “Old Liang, can’t you leave your game emotions behind?”
Just then, the system’s prompt sounded.
“Task triggered: Eliminate one hundred zombies in one go.”
“Task reward: None. Task failure: Host loses a random skill.”
In the apocalypse, Liang Yu didn’t want to lose any skills; he had to complete the task.
An idea quickly formed in his mind, and he smiled, “Alright, forget that. I’ve got a plan. How about we blow these zombies sky-high?”
Hong Shan leaned in, feeling Liang Yu’s forehead, then his own, and said, “No fever. Why are you talking nonsense?”
Liang Yu pushed Hong Shan away, who laughed heartily.
“Get lost, nothing good comes out of your mouth!”
“Just like you!”
The two began playfully bickering.
Lai Qingxue quickly intervened, “Stop it, you two. It’s the apocalypse. Can you be serious?”
Liang Yu straightened up and said seriously, “Got it, campus belle!”
“And I’m serious. I noticed a lot of cars by the school gate. We can siphon the gas and use a lighter to ignite it for an explosion!”
“We lure the zombies there, and boom, they’re all gone!”
As he spoke, Liang Yu mimicked an explosion with his hands.
Attracting the zombies and blowing up the gas tanks would easily take out a hundred zombies.
Lai Qingxue and Hong Shan were stunned by the idea—it wasn’t something just anyone would think of!
The next second, Hong Shan slapped his thigh, “Old Liang, I’ve thought it over. This could work!”
“I think it’s doable!”
Lai Qingxue looked at the excited men, unsure of what to say.
Oh well, just follow them, and it’ll be fine!
After a while, Liang Yu and Hong Shan geared up, taking Lai Qingxue to clear the zombies that had entered the dormitory last night.
Back at the dorm entrance, Liang Yu closed the door and secured it with a chain, planning to rest before heading to the school gate.
From the dorm to the gate, they’d pass the cafeteria, a small park, the playground, and finally the parking lot.
Liang Yu handed Lai Qingxue a riot shield, which she held steadily.
He picked up a crowbar from a corner, likely used by security to open manhole covers, perfect for prying open gas tanks.
After a ten-minute break, Liang Yu looked at Hong Shan and Lai Qingxue.
“Remember the plan?”
Earlier, the three had devised a plan: rush to the parking lot, with Liang Yu and Hong Shan holding off the zombies while Lai Qingxue opened the gas tank, inserted a cloth strip, and lit it.
Normally, a car fire wouldn’t cause an explosion unless the gas tank leaked.
Hong Shan and Lai Qingxue nodded.
“Ready!”
“3, 2, 1”
With Liang Yu’s countdown, he pulled the door open.
The three charged forward, avoiding zombies when possible, but some reckless ones charged at them, only to be decapitated before reaching them!
Running and fighting, they reached the parking lot.
Liang Yu told Lai Qingxue, “Campus belle, hurry!”
Hong Shan added, “Yeah, campus belle, our escape depends on you!”
The two began clearing the pursuing zombies!
Lai Qingxue reached a Guqi car, prying open the gas tank with the crowbar, strike after strike. (tln A Honda CR-V)
Soon, the gas cap was off.
Lai Qingxue took a prepared cloth strip from her pocket, placing it in the tank, watching as diesel soaked the cloth, filling it with fuel.
She stood and shouted to Liang Yu, “I’m done here, but I forgot the lighter!”
Liang Yu pulled a fancy lighter from Hong Shan’s jacket pocket, causing Hong Shan’s eyes to widen.
Though he didn’t smoke, he loved collecting lighters, and the one in Liang Yu’s hand was his favorite.
Liang Yu pulled Hong Shan back, and as Hong Shan shouted “No,” Liang Yu tossed the lighter onto the cloth strip.
His aim was spot on, landing it perfectly, and the cloth ignited instantly.
In a flash, the cloth burned inside, igniting the fuel.
“Boom,” the Guqi car exploded, setting off the surrounding cars.
Fortunately, the three ran fast, avoiding the blast, but the zombies weren’t so lucky.
Wave after wave of zombies were engulfed by the explosion and flames, turning the once-quiet parking lot into a sea of fire.
The pursuing zombies didn’t survive.
As Liang Yu wondered if he’d completed the task, the success notification sounded, filling him with excitement.
