Chapter 328: Villa Party
Fang Wenjing was still in a daze after her brother whisked her away from the interview.
“Why did you stop me, brother? I wasn’t done talking! I wanted to tell them to find you a girlfriend! With so many people watching the live stream, maybe someone out there could help me find a perfect sister-in-law!”
Wenjing held a large bouquet of flowers that Fang Zhou had given her, complete with a congratulatory card for her exam results. She looked vibrant, though her pale, thin face betrayed her illness.
Fang Zhou chuckled and sighed, patting her head gently. “Why are you worried about things like that at your age? My time will come, no need to rush.”
Wenjing’s eyes widened in disbelief. “No need to rush? If you wait any longer, you’ll be old—30, even! Do you get that?”
Sensing a lecture coming on, Fang Zhou quickly grabbed his car keys, opened the passenger door, and ushered his sister inside. “Enough of that. Today’s a happy day. Let’s enjoy it! I’ll take you out for some fun.”
He got into the driver’s seat, started the car, and sped away from the exam hall. The other students were also heading home, marking the end of a significant chapter in their lives.
As they drove, Wenjing couldn’t help but voice her worries. “Brother, what if I didn’t do well in the exams?”
Her concern was genuine. No matter how well one prepared, exam anxiety was real, and Wenjing was no exception. She particularly worried about her performance in math, always her weakest subject.
“If you didn’t do well, it’s okay. There are many paths in life. You could go to a vocational school. If that doesn’t work out, there are adult education programs. And if all else fails, you can retake the exams. Don’t stress about it. If worse comes to worst, I’ll take care of you,” Fang Zhou reassured her, focusing on the road.
His calm and steady voice brought Wenjing a sense of security. She looked at her brother gratefully, whispering a thank you before declaring loudly, “I don’t need you to take care of me! I can make a living with my crafts!”
Fang Zhou smiled indulgently and replied, “Alright, alright. You’re amazing. I’ll wait for you to make it big and take care of me in my old age.”
As the traffic light turned green, Fang Zhou restarted the car. He felt Wenjing’s worries were unnecessary. After all, exam results weren’t the be-all and end-all. They were simply a reflection of past efforts and couldn’t dictate the future. One’s future was ultimately in their own hands, not determined by a single test.
Half an hour later, Fang Zhou pulled up to a villa where a party was already in full swing. Li Siming, Zhang Zhiyin, and some friends from the training base had arrived earlier to celebrate with Wenjing. They wanted to relax after their intense training sessions, so they decided to have a villa party.
As soon as she got out of the car, Wenjing was showered with compliments from everyone, making her blush and smile brightly. Fang Zhou’s gaze shifted to Zhang Zhiyin, who he had also invited. Wenjing liked her, and it was a good chance for her and Siming to catch up.
“Let’s go inside. Have you been waiting long?” Fang Zhou asked Zhang Zhiyin with a smile, leading the group inside.
“Come on, let’s go! I’ve been dying to try that new board game. I’m a master at it! No one can beat me!” one of the teammates boasted.
“Oh, is that so? Are you saying the rest of us are trash? Big words!” another teammate retorted, as they all laughed and made their way into the villa.
Zhang Zhiyin followed, smiling gently. She wore a light blue dress with a purple headband, making her look elegant and beautiful.
“Heh, Zhiyin, I heard you’ve published a new book? No excuses today—you have to drink with us!” Li Siming teased, picking up a wine glass and bottle as he approached Fang Zhou and Zhang Zhiyin.
“Remember how we drank after our National College Entrance Examination? Let’s relive those memories!” Li Siming added, causing Zhang Zhiyin to remember some embarrassing moments from their past. She couldn’t help but laugh, despite herself.
“Why bring that up? Really, you know how to pick the worst topics,” she said, shaking her head with a smile.
The group laughed and chatted, ready to enjoy a carefree evening. The villa was filled with joy and camaraderie, a perfect way to celebrate the end of an era and the beginning of a new chapter.
