The Command to Pamper the Husband - Chapter 31
Lu Zhan glanced at Song Jin, and without seeking further permission, he tapped his toes on the ground, using the wild men’s heads as stepping stones to launch himself toward the wild boar.
Lu Zhan’s sudden appearance caused the wild men to gasp and shout in alarm.
Landing steadily on the wild boar, Lu Zhan plunged his dagger into its back.
The boar, in pain, rampaged wildly around the cave, crashing into everything.
Many wild men were caught in the chaos and fled the cave to avoid being trampled.
The wild boar, with Lu Zhan still on its back, charged out of the cave as well.
Song Jin pressed herself against the wall, waiting for most of the wild men to leave before turning to Shen Yue.
Shen Yue held the stick against the wild man leader.
“Tell me, where did you get this jade pendant?”
Shen Yue’s words were deliberate, gritted through his teeth.
Song Jin’s curiosity was piqued. This jade pendant must be important to Shen Yue.
She carefully moved closer to get a better look at the pendant.
As she got closer, the intricate patterns on the pendant became clear.
It was indeed identical to the one she had found earlier.
How could this be?
The wild man leader, seemingly not understanding Shen Yue’s words, shivered all over, glaring fiercely at him and occasionally baring his teeth menacingly.
Shen Yue leaned in, snatching the pendant from the wild man’s hand. “What is this?”
The wild man leader panicked, trying to grab it back but was forced back down by Shen Yue’s stick pressing against his head.
He panted heavily, agitated and uneasy.
“He probably doesn’t understand you,” Song Jin suggested, her lips pursed.
The wild man’s eyes flicked toward Song Jin.
Song Jin shrank back slightly, giving him a wary smile, and pointed at the pendant in Shen Yue’s hand.
The wild man leader stared at Song Jin for a moment, his agitation suddenly dissipating, replaced by a sorrowful sigh.
His eyes welled with deep sorrow, and tears streamed down his face.
Both Song Jin and Shen Yue were taken aback. They exchanged glances, and Shen Yue slightly eased the pressure of the stick.
The wild man leader raised his head to look at Shen Yue, then pointed to the left wall.
Following his gesture, Shen Yue saw a mural.
The painting depicted a woman, but it was old and her features had blurred over time. Only the jade pendant she wore remained clear.
It was the same pendant Shen Yue held.
Shen Yue stepped forward, gently touching the mural, his expression softening.
Song Jin watched, feeling a bit strange.
The wild man leader seemed surprised by Shen Yue’s reaction and began speaking in his incomprehensible language again.
Sadly, no one could understand him.
Shen Yue looked around the cave and clapped his hands. Two secret guards appeared immediately.
“Knock all these wild men out and take them down the mountain!”
The guards were stunned by the command.
But as secret guards, their duty was to obey orders.
After a moment’s hesitation, they bowed and accepted the command.
One guard approached the wild man leader, and with a swift strike to the back of his neck, knocked him out cold.
Just like the day they knocked out Wang Fugui.
The wild man leader slumped to the ground, and the guard hoisted him up and left.
Song Jin…
“Why are you taking them?”
Shen Yue glanced at Song Jin but didn’t answer, instead starting to search the cave thoroughly.
After a thorough search, he emerged with a gold hairpin, two bracelets, and a small white jade cup.
Song Jin…
“A girl used to live here!”
Shen Yue glanced at the mural.
Song Jin followed his gaze. “Is it this girl?”
Without a word, Shen Yue walked away.
The scratch from the monkey earlier still stung, making walking painful.
He didn’t want to talk!
Not a single word.
However…
As Shen Yue and Song Jin exited the cave, they saw Lu Zhan and the secret guards had knocked out all the wild men.
The guards had cut down some slender trees, made something like a raft, piled the wild men onto it, and tied ropes around it to pull them down the mountain.
Lu Zhan looked at Shen Yue for guidance. “Your Highness, should we take the wild boar too?”
The boar lay collapsed on the ground, the big red flower atop its head landing at Shen Yue’s feet.
Shen Yue’s face turned livid as he glared at Lu Zhan and walked away.
Lu Zhan…
So should we take it or not?
Song Jin couldn’t help but laugh, her shoulders shaking. She patted Lu Zhan’s shoulder, “Your Highness and the boar have already been married. If you take it back, how will you treat it? Your Highness might have to be called ‘Pig Lady’ from now on!”
Wan Xi, who had just been untied, walked over.
Unaware of what had happened, Wan Xi looked puzzled upon hearing this. “Young Master, isn’t the Fourth Prince your bride? How is he now the Pig Lady?”
Shen Yue…
Lu Zhan…
Song Jin…
Yuan Bao, having been knocked out by the gas, woke up to find Song Jin gone.
The dog was frantic.
Following Song Jin’s scent, it dashed madly.
When it reached the cave, it saw Song Jin emerging.
Excited, it sprinted towards her.
Reaching her, it jumped up, paws landing on Song Jin.
Song Jin…
Lu Zhan…
Shen Yue…
Shen Yue looked at the dog, his expression one of exasperation, and sighed, walking down the mountain.
Was this still the proud and noble dog from the legends?
What had made you become like this!
Seeing Song Jin unharmed, Yuan Bao’s heart settled.
Wagging its tail, it walked alongside Song Jin, silently berating itself.
A dog that can’t protect its master is not a good dog.
It felt utterly useless!
Song Jin was unaware of Yuan Bao’s thoughts.
As they descended the mountain, Song Jin, curious, sidled up to Shen Yue. “Were you captured by the wild men on purpose? Why?”
Shen Yue’s legs hurt with every step, and he was both angry and worried. He glared at Song Jin.
Turning, he saw Song Jin looking at him with large, innocent eyes.
Shen Yue…
Too effeminate!
It made him feel suffocated.
Annoyed, he snapped, “Of course, because you were captured and needed to be rescued!”, and stormed off.
Song Jin jogged to catch up.
“That’s probably the surface reason. If you really wanted to save me, you wouldn’t have needed to take such a risk. I’ve seen your martial skills; those wild men were no match for you. What’s the deal with that jade pendant?”
While she was curious about Shen Yue’s intentions, Song Jin was more intrigued by the jade pendant.
She had an identical one in her possession.
Mentioning the jade pendant made Shen Yue’s eyes flicker. He said nothing.
Seeing Shen Yue ignore her master, Wan Xi got angry!
Pointing at Shen Yue, she said, “Don’t forget, you are the bride my young master married. If my master asks you a question and you don’t answer, don’t blame him for not recognizing you as his bride and making you walk back on your own! The sedan chair at the foot of the mountain belongs to the Song family!”
Wan Xi’s angry words made Shen Yue stop and coldly stare at Song Jin.
