Chapter 30: Being Framed
[System notification: New mission released. Task: Slap the shameless old woman. Reward: 300 aura points and two 40g gold bracelets.]
The old woman shouted at Jiang Zhixu, her face twisted with anger. “You reckless girl, you dare to hurt my grandson! If anything happens to him, I won’t let you off the hook!”
Jiang Zhixu tried to explain, her voice calm. “You need to get things straight. Your grandson ran over and collided with me. I didn’t say a word, and he just started rolling on the ground, crying. You can’t just play the victim like this.”
The old woman’s voice grew louder. “Impossible! My grandson would never do such a thing. You’re just lying on purpose, trying to deceive people. Everyone, come and see! This person collided with my grandson and didn’t apologize. She even twisted my finger.”
The old woman sat on the ground, wailing and pounding her legs, determined to cause a scene. Soon, a crowd gathered around her, mostly elderly people, but most of them were just there to watch the commotion.
“Little girl, just apologize if you collided with him. No need to make things difficult,” someone said.
“Yes, yes, it’s not good to cause a scene like this,” another person chimed in.
“Look at the child crying so pitifully. It can’t be fake, can it?” someone else said.
“It must be this person who collided with him and is now denying it. What’s wrong with young girls these days?” another onlooker commented.
Listening to the crowd’s opinions, Jiang Zhixu almost laughed in anger. How could they judge the situation without knowing the facts?
Why were they all blaming her?
It seemed that people didn’t understand the situation unless it happened to them. But they shouldn’t have tried to frame her, thinking she was still the gentle and forgiving Bai Zhixu from before.
The old woman continued to shout and gesticulate, her spittle flying everywhere. Jiang Zhixu bent down, grabbed the old woman’s finger, and twisted it hard.
A blood-curdling scream erupted. The old woman’s face contorted in pain.
Jiang Zhixu’s mood improved significantly as she heard the scream. “Old woman, are you feeling comfortable now? If not, I can help you further.”
“You vicious woman! Don’t you know to respect the elderly and love the young?” the old woman cursed, her face red with rage.
“You’re still daring to lay hands on me? You’re such a vicious person. You won’t die a good death!” The old woman’s curses were met with an even bigger smile from Jiang Zhixu.
“My family may not be the best, but at least they’re not as trashy as yours,” Jiang Zhixu retorted. “Your son gave birth to a son who’s a troublemaker, and you’re treating him like a treasure. Are you blind or do you have a royal inheritance to pass down?”
“Or maybe it’s you who taught your grandson to play the victim and throw tantrums when he collides with someone?” Jiang Zhixu’s voice was laced with sarcasm.
“Oh my god, how can there be someone like you? Teaching kids to scam and play the victim… Ah, I get it. You’re trying to extort money,” Jiang Zhixu said, covering her mouth and taking a step back.
“This is a wealthy neighborhood, and the people living here are all influential figures. You’re bringing shame to this community with your actions,” Jiang Zhixu continued, her words hanging in the air.
The crowd understood the implications of her words.
They might not care about themselves, but they couldn’t afford to let their reputation suffer, especially those with businesses.
The old woman’s eyes widened in anger as she screamed, “You’re just lying! You don’t want to apologize or compensate us. My poor grandson, he’s been harmed by a seemingly harmless girl like you.”
The old woman lay on the ground, wailing and making Jiang Zhixu look bad.
“If you’re so concerned about your grandson, why didn’t you pick him up and comfort him?” Jiang Zhixu said coldly.
The crowd began to whisper among themselves, and it seemed they were starting to agree with Jiang Zhixu’s perspective. Some even turned around and walked away.
The crowd gradually dispersed, but the old woman continued to wail. Jiang Zhixu grabbed her hair and slapped her face. “This slap is to teach you not to speak nonsense.”
After releasing her grip, Jiang Zhixu turned to the little boy standing nearby. “Stand up!” she commanded.
The little boy trembled at the stern tone, possibly intimidated by Jiang Zhixu’s earlier actions towards the old woman.
Nevertheless, he obediently stood up.
“I’ll ask you this: Did I collide with you?” Jiang Zhixu asked.
The little boy glanced at the old woman and gritted his teeth. “It was you. You collided with me!”
Jiang Zhixu slapped him. “Let me ask you again: Who collided with whom?”
The old woman’s eyes widened in anger. “You beast! I’ll fight you!” She charged at Jiang Zhixu with her fists, but Jiang Zhi Xu easily swatted her aside.
“Oh, my waist!” the old woman cried out in pain.
Jiang Zhixu fixed her gaze on the little boy. “If you don’t speak up, you’ll be blamed for it.”
Since the boy had already said it was her fault, Jiang Zhixu decided to see things through. The little boy was terrified and burst into tears. “I-I was the one who collided with you! I collided with you!”
What a terrifying witch. She hits people without hesitation.
The little boy cried pitifully, “It was grandma who told me to collide with her. She said there would be money.”
The old woman received disdainful glances from the surrounding crowd. Before she could say anything, a bespectacled man in a gray suit pushed through the crowd.
“Mom! What happened to you?” he asked.
The old woman immediately wailed, “Son, you have to take my side. This woman is bullying me.”
The bespectacled man turned to Jiang Zhixu. “Miss, I don’t know what my mom did wrong, but you seem to be bullying her. If you can’t give me a reasonable explanation, don’t blame me for calling the police.”
Jiang Zhixu sneered and looked at the little boy. “What are you waiting for? Tell your stupid dad what you did.”
The bespectacled man’s face turned red with anger, but he composed himself for the sake of his son. “Son, tell me what happened. Don’t be afraid. Dad is here for you.”
The little boy glanced at Jiang Zhixu and stammered, “Grandma told me to collide with the sister and pretend to fall down, then lie on the ground and cry. She said there would be money.”
The bespectacled man’s mouth dropped open in shock. “My dear son, do you know what you’re saying?”
“Don’t be afraid, son. Tell the truth. Dad is here,” he urged.
Jiang Zhixu’s expression turned sarcastic. “You’re blind and deaf, and you don’t even believe your own son. You’re a complete fool. No wonder you don’t even know you’re wearing a green hat.”
The bespectacled man’s face turned red with rage. “Shut up! Say that again and see what happens.”
Jiang Zhixu continued to taunt him. “What? You’re not even sure what’s going on, and you’re trying to act like you care? You’re not a fool, are you? No wonder you don’t even know you’re wearing a green hat that’s so bright it’s glowing.”
The bespectacled man became even more agitated. “You’re lying! I’ll call the police and report you for slander!”
“Green Hat Guy, before you call the police, maybe you should take a look at how green your hat is,” Jiang Zhixu said nonchalantly, humming a tune. “Love is a light that makes you green with panic…”
