- Chapter 10 - Heading to the Auction House to Sell Items
Han Feng smiled but said nothing.
Though he was curious about what kind of spirit beast the Marriage Blessing would return to him if he gave the little fox to Jiang Surou, he had grown fond of the small creature. Its lazy and laid-back personality was a good match for his own, and he couldn’t help but feel a bit attached.
Moreover, what if he gave the fox away and got something stronger and fiercer in return, something that didn’t recognize him and ended up eating him instead?
Han Feng accepted the jade pendant and hung it on his waist. Meanwhile, Jiang Surou took the Three-Needle Flower and placed it into her storage pouch.
Now that she had accepted the flower, the gift was officially completed.
In Han Feng’s mind, the voice of the Marriage Blessing echoed.
[Han Feng has gifted a 35-year-old Three-Needle Flower to his Dao partner. You have received a tenfold return: a 350-year-old Three-Needle Flower. Would you like to claim it?]
The tenfold return from the blessing was based on the quality of the item, not the quantity. Just like before, when the dagger’s return was a mid-grade spirit weapon ten times better in quality, not ten daggers.
The same applied here: a 350-year-old Three-Needle Flower was far more valuable than ten 35-year-old ones.
Satisfied by the blessing, Han Feng stood up, cupped his hands, and said,
“Senior Sister, the matter is settled. I’ll take my leave now. Should I come across any other treasures in the future, I’ll be sure to send them your way. Please don’t refuse them.”
“Very well, take care and be safe on your way.”
Jiang Surou responded politely, though her cold expression remained unchanged.
As she watched Han Feng walk away without hesitation, her delicate brows furrowed slightly.
She couldn’t quite understand Han Feng. She had assumed he came to see her with the intention of dual cultivating to improve his cultivation. She wasn’t fond of dual cultivation, especially since it involved physical closeness with a man, even if it didn’t necessarily mean doing “certain” things. She disliked the idea.
But, surprisingly, Han Feng’s visit had only been about gifting her a flower. He hadn’t even mentioned dual cultivation.
Wait a minute… gifting a flower?
Jiang Surou’s eyes narrowed slightly.
Could it be that this guy is trying to win me over by giving me gifts, hoping to please me, and then eventually ask for dual cultivation?
Heh, fine. I’ll accept everything you send my way. Let’s see how long you can keep this up.
Han Feng made his way down the mountain and returned to his residence, only to find that Wang Mian had already left.
By now, the sky had darkened, and it was nearly dusk.
Han Feng had three things to accomplish today.
First, he had planned to become an outer disciple, but the timing wasn’t right, so he couldn’t complete that task.
Second, he needed to meet with Jiang Surou to exchange the Three-Needle Flower for a superior one, sell it in the market, and use the proceeds to buy a protective formation.
Third, he needed to register the little fox’s identity.
Registering the fox would require a trip to Spirit Beast Peak, which was located beyond a mountain between Luoxia Peak and Spirit Beast Peak.
The Yin-Yang Sect was situated among a cluster of mountains, with various peaks that housed the sect’s disciples and elders. Between the mountains and at their base were numerous towns and villages, populated by families, small factions, and commoners affiliated with the sect.
Where there were people, there was trade.
After arriving back at his residence, Han Feng took out the newly obtained Three-Needle Flower.
This one was nearly twice the height and much thicker than the one he had given to Jiang Surou.
The moment it appeared, the little fox’s eyes lit up, and it lunged toward the flower, ready to sink its teeth into it.
“Get back here.”
Han Feng grabbed the fox by the scruff and said,
“Why don’t you sense it first—see if this flower has any medicinal energy.”
“Of course it does! I can feel the abundant spiritual energy and vitality from a distance.”
Han Feng was puzzled. Why did the flower retain its usefulness even when it wasn’t in his possession?
“Alright, hold onto it for a moment.”
The little fox hurriedly grabbed the Three-Needle Flower, and when Han Feng wasn’t looking, it took a big bite out of the stem.
The stem was much thicker than the fox itself, so it only managed to take a small nibble.
“Does it have medicinal power?”
Han Feng asked.
“Yes, the moment it enters my mouth, I can feel the immense medicinal energy coursing through my body… but wait, why don’t I feel any difference? I should have gained some spiritual energy, but I feel nothing.”
The little fox was perplexed and prepared to take another bite.
Han Feng quickly lifted it away and put the flower back into his storage pouch.
Now he understood. The returned treasures were usable only by him, while others couldn’t benefit from them.
For medicinal herbs, the medicinal power remained, but while he could absorb its benefits, anyone else who tried would gain nothing.
This was the true meaning of the Marriage Blessing’s “unable to be given to others.”
Even if he gifted or sold the items, they would be useless to the recipient.
If the items could be transferred to others, Han Feng could have endlessly traded treasures with Jiang Surou, receiving a returned item each time and repeating the process to farm infinite valuable items.
Clearly, the Marriage Blessing wasn’t about to let him exploit the system like that.
Having grasped the rules, Han Feng felt confident and ready to proceed with his plan.
While night was a time for mortals to rest, for cultivators, there was no distinction between day and night. The nighttime was just as bustling, and it also provided better cover for certain activities.
Han Feng donned a wide-brimmed hat, covered his face with a black cloth, and placed the little fox in a cloth bundle, instructing it to stay quiet. With everything ready, he set out.
During uncertain times, discretion was necessary.
“Where are we going?”
The little fox’s voice came from inside the bundle.
“We’re going to sell the flower.”
“But that flower has no medicinal effects. Selling it would be tricking people! You’re a bad person.”
“I’m selling it to get spirit stones to feed you.”
“You’re the best person in the world!”
Leaving the servant disciples’ area, Han Feng entered the bustling town at the foot of the mountain. There were many scattered houses, and the closer he got to the center, the more lively and prosperous it became.
As Han Feng walked, he surveyed his surroundings. He had thought his mysterious appearance might make him stand out, but to his surprise, he encountered many other people dressed similarly. It seemed they were all up to their own shady business.
Han Feng had heard rumors that the nearby town had an auction house that operated every night, where everything from treasures to formations was sold. He had ventured into the town before, but as someone who was always strapped for cash, he had never had the privilege of attending an auction and thus didn’t know where it was.
After asking around, Han Feng finally located the Junzi Auction House.
What a gentlemanly name, he thought.
Approaching the entrance, the attendant at the door glanced at Han Feng. He didn’t look down on him for his poor attire, nor did he appear curious about his mysterious disguise. He must have seen plenty of people like Han Feng.
“Sir, are you here to buy or sell? Buyers need to deposit five spirit stones as a guarantee, which will be refunded if no purchases are made.”
The attendant greeted him with a smile.
“I’m here to sell.”
“To sell, there’s a five-spirit-stone appraisal fee, non-refundable. Please follow me.”
The attendant led Han Feng into the auction house, leading him past the main entrance and deeper inside.
Han Feng stole a glance at the auction floor and saw a number of people seated, intensely bidding on items.
Following the attendant, they circled around to the back and entered a small room.
“Master Chi Huaijun is inside conducting appraisals. Once the person ahead of you is done, you can go in.”
“Thank you.”
With that, the attendant left Han Feng to wait his turn.
