- Chapter 173 - Commissioner Lucy Eager for Advancement (1/3)
July 5th, Berren City, Sir’s Bridge District, Manor No. 15.
Today at the manor, many servants and attendants were given a day off, because today, the manor was to welcome a mysterious guest.
The old butler had been waiting at the entrance early. He watched as the carriage, marked with the company’s chip insignia, slowly stopped. Behind the old butler was a knight in full iron armor, despite the hot weather.
After the carriage came to a complete stop, the old butler took two steps forward, opened the carriage door, bowed slightly, and said, “Miss Silva, Young Mistress is already waiting inside.”
The shrewd old butler, though an ordinary person, seemed to be well-versed in such matters. His gaze did not look at the person inside the carriage at all, so as not to cause any discomfort to the person inside.
A person stepped down from the carriage. She was wearing a stiff black company uniform. The long black skirt covered her ankles. The intricate gilded patterns on it shimmered like scales.
She wore a golden chip mask on her face, shining with noble brilliance in the sunlight. Black and gold, the signature colors of Deton Group, but not every employee could wear them.
Lucy stepped down from the carriage and walked directly towards the knight wearing iron armor at the entrance. A smile appeared on her face beneath the mask. She slightly nodded and said:
“First visit, thank you for hosting me… Your Excellency, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Lucy Silva, Senior Commissioner of Deton Group.”
“My name is Nia.”
Nia slightly lowered her head, not engaging in much conversation, but said, “Young Mistress is waiting for you in the study. Please follow me.”
Lucy followed behind Nia, curiously observing the manor’s surroundings.
She still didn’t know why the Young Mistress of the Roswell family had invited her over. So far, she had only met the other party twice.
Once was when she first arrived in Berren City. She immediately found the other party, stated her purpose, and briefly mentioned what she intended to do.
This was not only to make the other party lower their guard, but also to allow the other party to cooperate a little with her actions and to gather some information.
The second time was at the banquet on June 25th. They met again. They exchanged some information and also expressed Deton Group’s apologies—after all, the Young Mistress of the Roswell family was also present when something happened at Deton Manor.
Through these two interactions, Lucy had a rough idea of what kind of person the other party was.
She was a deeply calculating person. She spoke and acted very efficiently, and her conversations with people seemed devoid of emotion, simply discussing matters as they were—of course, this attitude would also offend some people, but Lucy liked to work with people who didn’t talk nonsense.
If she hadn’t known that the Young Mistress of the Roswell family had already advanced to Tier 2 “Psychiatrist,” Lucy would have thought the other party had taken the “Assassin” or “Detective” path.
But it was truly a pity… Why did such a seedling with excellent talent take the “Listener” path? If she had taken the “Detective” path, she would definitely have been the undeniable choice for the next head of the Roswell family.
Rumor had it that she had some conflict with her family… She didn’t know what kind of conflict it was.
The metal-clad figure stopped. Lucy also stopped.
Now she stood at the entrance of the study on the second floor. After the metal-clad figure opened the door, Lucy slightly nodded to her in greeting, then walked in.
“Miss Silva.”
Avena stood up, extended her right hand, and said, “Thank you for accepting my invitation and coming. Welcome.”
Lucy took a couple of quicker steps forward, gently took off her glove, lightly grasped the other party’s right hand, and said, “It is my honor to be invited by Miss Roswell.”
“Please sit.”
After Lucy sat down, her eyes saw three cups of steaming black tea on the table.
Three cups?
Who else is coming?
Oppold? Ashford?
Lucy took off her mask and placed it on the table before her. She casually picked up the teacup, took a light sip. Seeing that Avena hadn’t initiated the conversation yet, she said, “May I ask what Miss Roswell invited me here for?”
“I am just an intermediary,”
Avena shook her head and said, “It is not I who wishes to see you, but a… friend of mine.”
Lucy noticed that when she said the word “friend,” this Miss Roswell clearly hesitated and showed uncertainty, even changing her expression slightly.
Logically, someone of Miss Roswell’s caliber would be able to lie effortlessly. How could her expression even change?
Unless…
She was not on “friend” terms with that person, but rather with someone she held a grudge against… She could indeed see who this Miss Roswell held resentment towards.
For example, that royal disgrace, Oppold.
From the previous banquet, it was clear that Avena was getting a bit annoyed. And that Oppold had a fiancée, yet he still wanted to cling to this Miss Roswell like sticky candy.
She was not someone who could be fooled by sweet talk.
But the person who wanted to see her this time was definitely not Oppold.
Because she had already divined before coming. The card was “Page,” a young or gender-neutral person. According to Lucy’s own interpretation, it was a young woman. This didn’t fit with Oppold.
Moreover, the Tarot cards also told her… this would be a meeting with great gains.
Usually, when Lucy’s divination showed this card arrangement, it meant the money she would earn would be at least over 2000 pounds… There was nothing to lose by not earning it.
