- Chapter 218 - The True Use of "Artificial Divinity" (2/4)
“Sigh… last question…”
Ciel’s tone was somewhat weak. This weak voice made Mond’s heart gradually calm down as well.
The Keyman had probably also seen through the current situation and was ready to compromise and cooperate.
Buzz—
Ciel slowly raised her hand. Silver light flashed in her hand. A dark green frontal lobe, with slightly fractured edges, appeared in Ciel’s hand.
Her simulated self had taken out the frontal lobe from the sub-system inventory, but it did not affect Ciel’s system inventory. She could still take out the frontal lobe that had been redeemed long ago.
“You should know how to use this, right?”
Ciel asked carelessly.
The moment she saw this dark green frontal lobe, Mond’s eyes widened fiercely. Her face in the shadows showed an expression of disbelief.
“Impossible! This thing…”
Mond unconsciously gasped.
But quickly, she closed her mouth.
Mond knew very well that she had personally taken this thing out of the Redemption Society. It was impossible for it to still be in the Keyman’s hands.
The Keyman was a “Subverter”! They could take out whatever they wanted!
“The real item is not in your hands. I cannot help you with this thing.”
Mond shook her head.
“This is the real one.”
Ciel shook the frontal lobe in her hand. This soft brain trembled slightly in Ciel’s hand like green jelly.
“Heh… I personally took the real item from Ashford’s laboratory and gave it to Professor Lafayette. How could it be in your hands?”
Mond scoffed.
“Oh…”
Ciel nodded and smiled, “What was Lafayette’s reaction when she saw this? Did she open those dark glasses? Was she still chuckling?”
Hearing Ciel’s words, the smile on Mond’s face, which had been there just a moment ago, gradually disappeared.
The information they received was that Ashford had obtained a symbiotic brain, but they didn’t know which one.
But, when Lafayette saw the brain she had given her, her eyes indeed showed shock. She wasn’t smiling. She did open her lenses and carefully examined the brain… Mond was still congratulating herself on bringing back something extraordinary when Lafayette dismissed her.
Seeing the smile abruptly disappear, Ciel’s smile grew wider, “Do you know why she was so shocked?”
Without waiting for Mond to react, Ciel said directly, “This is the one from Windsor’s brain… Oh, the one with Forte’s memories.”
“Lafayette must have been very surprised, right? She might have even wanted to directly slice open Windsor’s brain to see if that frontal lobe was still there, right? Because Windsor is clearly alive and well…”
“Lafayette will probably realize it’s fake soon… including the one in Windsor’s brain. Then Forte will definitely go crazy and start searching for me everywhere after hearing this news…”
“Oh, right, do you know why Forte’s face has those burn marks? The stitching of the flesh on his face was probably done by Lafayette, right?”
“Who does that key symbol refer to?”
Saying this, Ciel chuckled softly.
“So hard to guess…”
Halfway through listening, Mond already felt her hands and feet turning cold.
The Keyman before her, with a smile on their lips and a weak voice, gave Mond a great sense of fear… The Keyman’s nonchalant demeanor made it seem as if they were in control of everything, which was why they were so fearless.
Keyman… knew more than she had imagined.
This time, Mond truly abandoned all her previous prejudices against the Keyman. She didn’t even think about the Keyman’s earlier ridicule of her.
If the Keyman truly knew everything… then they were indeed qualified to mock her.
Compared to the joy the Keyman gained from stirring up trouble in these matters, everything she had done seemed like child’s play, and she had been oblivious and smug about it before.
What was going on with the Keyman…? Why did they suddenly seem like a different person…?
Now, Mond was at the mercy of others. She could only believe what the Keyman said.
Mond swallowed lightly. After a moment of silence, she said, “I… I can help you decipher the information in that brain, Your Excellency…”
When she said the word “Your Excellency,” it meant that Mond, as a colleague, as an Overseer who also led a team and monitored their actions, was completely won over by the Keyman.
“Tell me about it.”
Ciel slightly nodded. She sat on the box, looking down at Mond, who was kneeling on the ground.
…
About two hours later, inside the factory.
Several wooden boxes were put together, forming a simple temporary workbench. A layer of gray waterproof cloth was spread on the table.
Several black-robed figures stood beside Ciel. They were holding tools, waiting for Ciel to use them.
On the table lay a shirtless man. His eyes were tightly closed, seemingly in a coma.
The man’s skull had been completely cut open. Ciel was more experienced in opening skulls now than before. She hadn’t even broken the skull. With the “Coroner”‘s ability to hold it in place, the incision marks were almost invisible.
The man’s frontal lobe had been completely separated. The place where his frontal lobe should have been was now replaced by a slightly pulsating dark green frontal lobe.
Then, Ciel carefully glued the skull back together with some mucus and stitched up the scalp.
Perhaps because she had worked on many corpses, Ciel’s technique was a bit rough. She didn’t aim for aesthetic appeal. Everything was done as quickly as possible.
“Is this how it’s done?”
Ciel put down the surgical knife and looked back at Mond.
“Yes, Your Excellency.”
Mond nodded slightly, and at the same time, a hint of confusion flashed in her heart.
Why could the Keyman use the “Coroner”‘s ability…?
Even a “Subverter” couldn’t do this…
Mond didn’t have time to think too much. Looking at Ciel’s slightly impatient eyes, she quickly said:
“After replacing this brain, most people will be polluted by the Other Side. Only those with a certain resistance to the Other Side can fully adapt… Generally speaking, only the original owner of this brain can perfectly adapt, so the choice of recipient is very important…”
“This frontal lobe was originally removed from Windsor, so Windsor could withstand its side effects and wouldn’t be completely driven mad by the whispers or assimilated by this brain.”
