- Chapter 68 - Ciel, the Little Cult Leader (3/3)
At that moment, Kitty was seated at her desk, staring at a backgammon board with a deep frown.
The low rolls on her dice and her increasingly disrupted plans had left her agitated.
She had left no openings, yet her plans kept falling apart—like an invisible force was watching her every move.
She still couldn’t figure out how Sherlon had been exposed or how Avena and Adele had realized they were being watched.
Had she overlooked something?
She needed to patch these growing holes before the bishop arrived for questioning… at the very least, she had to keep Deton Manor’s secrecy intact.
Knock, knock, knock—
The knocking interrupted Kitty’s thoughts. Frustrated, she snapped toward the door.
“What is it?”
“Administrator, the Bishop has arrived.”
At those words, Kitty’s back was instantly drenched in cold sweat.
What’s going on? Why was the failure discovered so quickly?
“Come in.”
Kitty quickly closed the backgammon board, scattering some of the pieces in her haste. She couldn’t worry about that now. She walked briskly to the door, discarded her black chip mask to one side, stood by the door, and slightly bowed her head as she opened it.
As soon as the door opened, Kitty, who was only slightly bowing her head in a distracted manner, came face to face with a terrifying mask.
The mad whispering exploded in her ears, and her eyes began to see hallucinatory visions. In those visions, she saw the ethereal Clock Tower Church, endless green mists and lights, and subterranean eyeballs…
No!!!
Relying on the strong resistance of a “Missionary,” Kitty forcibly bent her knees, kneeling before the “Bishop,” and buried her head even lower.
Only when she stopped staring at the horrifying mask did the insane whispers in her mind begin to fade. However, the images continued flickering in her mind, distorting everything she saw.
These injuries were irreversible…
The cold sweat on Kitty’s back nearly soaked through her clothes. She never imagined that the Bishop who came would be… so petite, which almost made her the first high priest to be driven insane by the relics carried by the Bishop.
As the “Bishop” stepped inside, the maid closed the wooden door behind her and left.
Before Kitty could turn around on her knees to say something, a wrapped letter was thrown in front of her.
“Your Excellency, the Bishop… what is this?”
Kitty had no doubts about the Bishop’s power. Even though the presence before her felt like only a first-tier transcendent, the Mother Goddess’s blessing and the sealed artifact at her waist were enough to confirm her identity.
It was too soon for the higher-ups to respond; the Bishop’s visit might just be for another directive…
“Open it and see.”
The Bishop’s voice was calm.
Kitty, still on her knees, now fully knelt on the floor. Her vision was still blurred with ghostly afterimages, but when she opened the contents, she felt as if her blood had turned to ice.
It was an authorization letter from the Radiance Bishop, granting the bearer authority to manage the Clock Tower Church in Berren City, along with the Radiance Bishop’s insignia.
The sudden appearance of Uris, a second-tier transcendent in Berren City, had already troubled Kitty enough. Now, another second-tier “Missionary” was coming.
This would make it impossible for Kitty to patch up the growing holes.
“What are you doing?!”
Slap—
Suddenly, a fierce gust of wind followed by a sharp pain on the left side of her face left her mind in disarray.
“The person, I’ve already dealt with.”
The Bishop’s voice carried anger. She took a deep breath before continuing, “Although the letter was intercepted, the person has been missing for too long—suspicion will likely arise.”
“You… know what to do, don’t you?”
Do you know what to do…?
Was this… giving herself a chance?
Kitty, who had been resigned to her fate, felt a fiery warmth surge through her chest.
“Thank you for your grace, Your Excellency! Kitty knows what to do now!”
Sobbing, Kitty bowed several times in front of the Bishop, then crawled forward a few steps. With her left hand, she clutched the Bishop’s sock-clad shin and, with her right, she held the Bishop’s small leather boot, beginning to fervently kiss the Bishop’s footwear.
At that moment, Ciel’s mouth beneath the mask twitched slightly.
Hold on, I didn’t add a subject or say who disappeared or who might be suspicious—how did you fill in the blanks on your own?
Is the “Fate Dice” that powerful? I only used this ability when giving money to the coachman.
Is it the art of conversation taking effect, or did the 【Other Side Page】 disturb her mind?
Maybe it was a combination of all three…
At this point, Ciel, in Kitty’s eyes, had become a high-ranking cult leader, even higher in rank than herself.
And another thing…
Is this how Divine Advent Church members show gratitude, by kissing shoes? Do you all have a four-letter mobile game on your phone?
The shoes are all slobbered on! Let go!!!
Ciel struggled to suppress the urge to pull her foot back, continuing with the conversation calmly.
“So… what’s your plan?”
“Plan… plan… yes, I have a plan… just give me a moment…”
At the question, Kitty began sweating profusely again, reminiscent of a primary school student who hadn’t done their homework and was suddenly called upon.
Watching this scene unfold, Ciel felt an odd sense of familiarity.
Just hours ago, Kitty, still wearing her mask, had been in control, forcing Ciel to drink the potion and indoctrinate her.
Now, just a few hours later, Kitty was weeping and kneeling before her.
Misinformation, it’s a wonderful thing… even false information can be useful.
