- Chapter 9.1 - Freshman Performance (5.1)
The lights hadn’t come on yet, but the music had already started.
The rhythm of “Croatian Rhapsody” struck all the students in the first instant. Everyone instinctively held their breath, and the slightly noisy military training ground fell silent in an instant.
A spotlight shone down, landing in the center of the stage.
A frail girl in a white dance dress was lying on the ground. As the music started, her fingertips moved her wrists, her wrists moved her forearms, her forearms moved her upper body, and her waist slowly swayed up…
As she slowly danced her soft body up from the ground, the piano sound suddenly burst out, grand and low alternately rising, as if smoke was everywhere, the sky was low, the rain curtain was imminent, everything was silent–only that white dress, like a weak and nameless white flower in the midst of flying war fire, slowly unfolded in the dust and crevices left by the smoke…
After the deep and slow, the bright and passionate rhythm suddenly rose, and the white dress in the center of the stage also began to dance. Her slender legs were upright, her toes lightly touched the ground, the white dress was turned up into ripples, like a white umbrella face spinning fast, stepping on every beat of the piano keys precisely and gracefully, the skirt almost swayed confusing shadows in the air.
The dancer’s chin was high, her eyes were cold and stunningly beautiful, as if full of unwillingness and struggle, her dance was beautifully dazzling, with the moving beat, the anger and struggle in the piano sound, the surging and venting in the rhythm, all were interpreted by that soft and frail figure, hearty and unrestrained.
The piano tone became more intense, and the beat under the dancer’s feet got faster and faster, the desolate despair from her dance spread over the entire stage and lights, as if the war fire had reddened everything in sight, the most unwilling hope of life was bred from despair, like a song, like a cry, in the utmost elegant and tragic, the last bit of blood was poured out by her with all her strength–
Until the climax, the piano sound suddenly stopped.
And at that moment, that frail figure seemed to have been hit by something, suddenly froze in the air.
A few seconds later, the soothing piano sound flowed out again.
The dancer in the center of the stage was panting heavily, but with a beautiful and desperate posture, she slowly and weakly fell to the ground.
As if the last bit of life had gone.
The lights dimmed, the music stopped.
Everything returned to silence.
“..…”
The entire military training ground with thousands of people, was completely silent for a full ten seconds.
After those ten seconds, applause erupted like a thunderous wave, suddenly rising and sweeping across the entire base.
At the same time.
Backstage.
Qin Yan was stunned, staring incredulously at the direction of the stage, her gaze as if trying to pierce through the thick curtains–she couldn’t believe that the applause that was almost causing a frenzy across the venue, could be for Qin Ke?
Qin Ke’s dance was far inferior to hers!
Could it be…
Qin Yan’s eyes tightened, and her fingertips suddenly clenched–yes, it must be because of Huo Jun, this applause must be for Huo Jun–she had heard too many people play “Croatian Rhapsody”, but apart from the original performance, this was the first time that she felt as if her soul had been struck, and she couldn’t help but get goosebumps.
It must be just because of Huo Jun…
“Qin Yan!”
An excited voice suddenly called back Qin Yan’s consciousness, she hurriedly came back to her senses, looked up and saw the head of the Literature and Art Department running over excitedly–
“Qin Ke is really a treasure! Why didn’t you recommend her earlier!? If I had known she had such strength, she should have been the lead dancer in the group dance before!”
“…!”
Qin Yan’s body suddenly froze.
After a while, she showed an ugly smile. “I just…didn’t go to the front stage. Qin Ke, she,” Qin Yan opened her mouth with difficulty, “did Qin Ke dance well?”
“More than good!”
The head of the Literature and Art Department was so excited that his face was flushed and his forehead was bulging with veins–
“It was simply perfect! Qin Ke is in no way inferior to any provincial competition champion–such a treasure, you two sisters really know how to keep a secret, not leaking a word??”
“Huo Jun is also completely unassuming! My God, there was a moment just now, I closed my eyes and almost thought it was my idol Maxim possessing him!”
“Qin Ke and Huo Jun’s cooperation was just too good! I was completely drawn in, I couldn’t stop getting goosebumps!”
“Yeah, I can’t believe it, was it really their first time performing on the same stage??”
“Department Head, you better dig people! Let them come to our department, I can’t wait to see more of their cooperation!”
“Haha, are you shocked to madness, not to mention Qin Ke, are you sure who dares to dig Brother Jun into the department?”
“..…”
More and more people from the Literature and Art Department who were amazed by the dance came up, praising the stunning dance and piano accompaniment that had just shocked the entire venue.
“..…”
Among those praises and compliments that came rushing over, Qin Yan’s smile was almost uglier than crying.
Her fingertips clenched tighter and tighter.
How could it be…
Before the summer vacation, she had seen Qin Ke dance last semester, she was just a beginner who had only physical talent but no technique at all.
How could she possibly be as amazing as they said? Even…even it seemed like she was far inferior to her??
Thinking about this, Qin Yan’s expression was a bit twisted.
“Hey, Qin Yan, where are you going?”
