This Wave of Zombies is No Good - Chapter 5
Ten minutes later…
Zou Lang was kneeling on the ground, clinging to Yu Jingtang’s leg. Yu Jingtang, expressionless, wanted to move forward but couldn’t due to the leg attachment.
“I can’t move… Jingtang, please, let’s rest a bit or help me out.”
Yu Jingtang wished he could kick this man away. He struggled to free his leg from Zou Lang’s grip.
“My back is going to break!! You can’t leave me here!!” Zou Lang continued to wail.
“There’s a zombie!” Yu Jingtang said.
“You’ve used that trick before, you can’t use the same trick twice!”
“There really is a zombie!” Yu Jingtang said, his face becoming serious.
Only then did Zou Lang look back. Indeed, there was a zombie about ten meters away walking towards them. This zombie was different from the usual ones, its legs were too damn long, and so were its arms, almost two meters in length! Even if they jumped up, they couldn’t reach its head, and this zombie’s speed was clearly much faster than the average zombie. It was very much like a very strange giant species.
“I told you before! Some zombies here have unusually large body parts!” Zou Lang said with a wronged look on his face.
Yu Jingtang almost spat out a mouthful of blood in anger. With the way Zou Lang spoke, how could he tell which sentences were true and which were false?
While the two were talking, the zombie had already spotted them and was rushing in their direction at an astonishing speed.
Yu Jingtang turned around and fired two shots, both of which grazed the zombie’s head. Seeing the distance closing, he made a snap decision to increase the distance and then use the gun to shoot the zombie in the head. He shouted, “Zou Lang! Keep up.” He ran straight out for about fifty meters, looked back, and saw that the strange zombie was still there, but Zou Lang was gone.
Yu Jingtang felt a chill in his heart. He felt a bit like a bandit whose hostage had been shot.
Then…
“Little Tang, run! What are you dazing for!” Zou Lang’s voice suddenly came from ahead.
Yu Jingtang looked up and saw that Zou Lang, who had been limp just a moment ago, had already thrown away his rescue bag and somehow ran ahead of him, cheerfully.
Damn, how can this kid run so fast?
Even the calm Yu Jingtang couldn’t help but curse in his heart. He was in the top five of the entire army’s 1,200 competitors. He didn’t know if this person’s adrenaline suddenly exploded or if he was just too lazy to show his true abilities.
By the time he stopped, it was too late to run again. Yu Jingtang rolled to the side of the road, squatted down, raised his gun, aimed, fired, and shot the zombie in the head in one fluid motion.
He hit it!
Yu Jingtang had just breathed a sigh of relief when he heard Zou Lang make a sound. He hadn’t heard clearly what Zou Lang said. He only saw that the zombie had actually staggered back to its feet. Its slender arm swung, and its long fingers slashed across him like a blade.
Yu Jingtang only felt a pain in his chest, and his whole body was thrown against a utility pole on the side of the road. He stiffened and spat out a cloud of blood.
The zombie succeeded in its attack and didn’t rush to eat him, but ran towards Zou Lang instead. Seeing the situation, Zou Lang ran towards a flower bed on the side and circled around it with the zombie.
Yu Jingtang took a breath, disregarding his own injuries, gritted his teeth, raised his gun, aimed at the zombie’s head, and fired two more shots. Each of these two shots hit the zombie’s eyes perfectly. The zombie howled to the sky, its cry almost shattering the eardrums, as if the whole earth was trembling.
The military had already obtained some research data before. Although zombies are not clear-minded, their vision, hearing, and smell are superior to when they were alive, and they still rely on these to find prey. These two shots at least made the zombie lose its visual target.
Zou Lang shook off the zombie and ran over. He glanced at the blood on Yu Jingtang’s body and asked, “Yu Jingtang, are you injured? Are you okay? Is it serious…”
Yu Jingtang hadn’t expected that shooting the zombie in the head would have no effect, and was caught off guard by the attack. Zou Lang was the pot calling the kettle black, with no sense of timing. He pushed Zou Lang away with gritted teeth, “Don’t get in the way, stay back.”
While they were talking, the zombie had already run over again based on the sound, swinging its two arms and slashing around wildly.
Yu Jingtang took something out of his pocket, rolled over to dodge the zombie’s arm attack, stepped on a wall with one foot for leverage, laid on the zombie’s back, locking the zombie’s throat with one arm.
The zombie was attacked and opened its mouth wide to bite.
Yu Jingtang seized the opportunity and stuffed something into the zombie’s mouth – it was a grenade with the pin pulled out.
The zombie swallowed the grenade in one bite, holding it perfectly in its mouth. Yu Jingtang rolled off and pushed Zou Lang to the ground. There was a loud bang as the grenade exploded. The zombie’s head was completely blown off, and its body finally stopped struggling after a twitch.
Zou Lang, pressed to the ground, was stunned. It wasn’t until Yu Jingtang coughed and spat out a mouthful of blood that he reacted, “Yu Jingtang, are you okay!”
Yu Jingtang didn’t answer him, just loosened the hand pressing on Zou Lang’s hand, squatted down with one hand covering his wound, and his hand was immediately covered in blood.
His wound wasn’t deep, it should not have cut through the internal organs, but it wasn’t shallow either. With the shock of the blow, the pain started to twist inside him.
“Is your wound deep… is it serious?” Zou Lang saw that Yu Jingtang’s handsome face had turned white, knowing that his injury was not light. He helped him sit down by the side of the road. Yu Jingtang knew that if he didn’t speak, Zou Lang would persistently ask, so he still covered his wound with his hand, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and said, “I’m fine. Just let me rest for a while.”
Zou Lang blinked, took out a bottle of water from his bosom, and said, “We’re not in a hurry, let’s rest first before we go back, you drink some water.”
Yu Jingtang took the water. He was indeed a bit thirsty. The water was warm, carrying Zou Lang’s body temperature. For a moment, his eyes were a bit hot. He took a couple of sips, the blood from the corner of his mouth smeared the bottle mouth, and half of the bottle of water was dyed red. Yu Jingtang looked at the color, slightly frowned, this water wouldn’t be going back.
Zou Lang seemed to know what he was thinking in his heart, touched his shoulder, as if to smooth Yu Jingtang’s fur, “It’s okay, it’s okay, I’m not thirsty, it’s just for you to drink. Let me see your wound, this wound looks like it’s bleeding a lot.”
Yu Jingtang finally didn’t insist anymore, and half-loosened the hand clasped on his body.
Zou Lang gently helped him lift his shirt.
There were three bloodstains about ten centimeters long on his chest and abdomen, cut by the zombie’s sharp claws. The flesh was hideous, and blood kept seeping out with Yu Jingtang’s breath.
As soon as he lifted his clothes, Yu Jingtang felt the wound hurt even more, disregarding the wound, he wanted to press it with his hand again.
“No, no, the wound will get infected.” Zou Lang stopped his hand, took out a pack of medical gauze from his pocket, folded it a few times, and pressed it on the wound. The fresh blood immediately dyed the wound red. Yu Jingtang grunted in pain and clenched Zou Lang’s hand.
“No good, we need to find a place to treat the wound first.” Zou Lang got up and looked around, not far away there was a small civilian clinic.
