“Come, sit down. Dinner will be ready soon!”

As soon as Su Yuning walked in, her mother hurriedly pulled her to sit down, not forgetting to shout towards the kitchen.

“Gu Yan, hurry up in there! Our daughter is back!”

“Got it!” Gu Yan responded obediently.

It was clear that the Su family was a typical household with a live-in son-in-law. The family of four consisted of:

• • -Su Mother: A domineering and competitive mother-in-law, known for her sharp tongue and constant criticism of Gu Yan.

On the couch, Su Mother held her daughter’s hand and started asking questions.

“How did the partnership talks go? Does the Wang Group have a good impression of us?”

“We can earn a bit less this time. As long as we establish a connection with the Wang Group, there will be plenty of money to make in the future!”

Su Mother looked expectantly at Su Yuning. “Isn’t Wang Haoran your friend? Did you get any closer to him?”

Su Mother advised earnestly, “I’m doing this for your own good! If you get close to Wang Haoran, our whole family benefits. Your uncles and the old lady would have to respect us! They wouldn’t dare mock us anymore.”

“Even your grandmother is trying to get you to give up the CEO position to your second uncle’s family. She’s so unfair!”

Su Mother grumbled softly.

Hearing this, Su Father couldn’t help but frown. “What are you saying? That’s my mother you’re talking about!”

“Hmph, am I wrong?”

Su Father’s comment only fueled Su Mother’s complaints. “Yuning married Gu Yan because of your father’s last wish. Our excellent daughter had to marry this useless man!”

“Yuning sacrificed her happiness and endured for three years without divorcing him. Yet, your mother still wants her to give up her CEO position!”

“How did I end up with such a useless husband, making our daughter suffer so much?”

Su Mother glared at Su Father, while Su Yuning quickly tried to calm her down.

“Mom, I married him willingly. Grandpa didn’t force me!”

“And you don’t have to worry. Grandma is just talking; she won’t really make me give up the CEO position.”

“Hmph, silly girl. This is not just talk!”

Su Mother knew that her second uncle’s family was trying to take over, and her mother-in-law seemed to be considering it. This made her even more determined.

“When the company was in crisis, no one wanted to step up. Now that you’re making money, they all want the CEO position!”

“Yuning, you need to invite Wang Haoran over for a meal. That way, your uncles won’t dare to mess with you!”

“Got it?”

“Yes, Mom.”

Seeing her mother’s determination, Su Yuning had no choice but to agree.

At this moment, Gu Yan finished setting the table and called out, “Dinner’s ready! Yuning, you must be hungry. Come and eat!”

Seeing Gu Yan, Su Yuning couldn’t help but recall being kissed by Wang Haoran in the car… Feeling a bit guilty, her tone softened.

Hearing her mother’s harsh tone, Su Yuning felt even more guilty. “Mom, let him eat first.”

“No! If he skips chores today, he’ll skip cooking tomorrow and expect us to serve him the day after! He’s a live-in son-in-law, not a master!”

“Mom, that’s too harsh…”

“Yuning, it’s fine. I’ll go.”

Gu Yan stepped in, smiling as he headed upstairs, showing his usual submissive demeanor.

“That’s better! Make sure you clean it well!”

Su Mother huffed at Gu Yan’s back. She blamed most of the family’s troubles on him and resented that her mother-in-law wanted her daughter to give up the CEO position because of Gu Yan’s reputation.

But thankfully, her daughter was excellent and capable, managing to secure deals even after her husband messed up.

The more she looked at Gu Yan, the more she disliked him.

Gu Yan, however, didn’t mind. As long as Su Yuning understood him, nothing else mattered. Seeing her defend him against her mother made him happy.

Since he decided to stay with Su Yuning for life, he hoped their relationship would grow closer.

“I wonder when I can start calling her ‘dear wife’ instead of just ‘Yuning’!”

At that moment, each of the family members had different thoughts.

Gu Yan went upstairs to work, looking forward to a closer bond with his wife.

Su Yuning watched his back, feeling guilty.

Su Mother felt torn between pity for her daughter and disdain for Gu Yan.

Only Su Father, with little presence, urged his wife and daughter to hurry up and eat.
