- Chapter 32 - Minato's Participation
Minato’s Participation
In my hazy consciousness, I finally managed to spot the oddity girls I was looking for.
I took another good look at the situation.
Hina, who was rampaging like a madwoman, and the man with sunglasses who was suppressing her without changing his expression. Below them, several photos had fallen.
There was no mistake. Even from a distance, I could tell that those photos were the ones Hina had shown me through her smartphone.
It seems I made it in time.
“Minato-senpai…?”
“Minato… why…?”
Kanade and Hina sent me a look of astonishment. It was only natural.
Currently, on my hands and feet were the shackles that Kanade herself must have fitted, the thick chains jangling loudly.
As a result, I was dragging four chains, which depending on the viewpoint, made me look like a prisoner.
There’s no need to hide it, so I’ll answer straight to the point.
“There was an emergency. Sorry, but I had to break through the wall.”
“Eh?”
It was a rare sight to see Kanade so taken aback.
It seems she’s asking for a more detailed explanation, but I don’t have that much leeway myself, so I simply extend my wrists to her.
It’s grotesque, to say the least. Each of my fingers was stained red, four on the left hand and three on the right were bent at odd angles.
It was rough, but this should be enough to explain the situation.
“Could it be…”
Kanade looked at me with a gaze as if she had seen something horrendous.
Indeed, it would be impossible, no matter how hard I tried, to forcefully remove these thick chains and iron shackles. That’s why I broke the base that was holding the chain in place.
That’s all I did.
There was no trick or gimmick to this escape drama. I simply kept punching the wall of the room I was confined in.
The wall itself was made of wood, so if I had a metal bat or an iron pipe, it would have been easy to break, but with bare hands, it took a certain resolution.
But now, there was no other choice but to have that resolve.
I kept punching with all my strength, breaking my finger bones, staining them with blood from the wounds, and exposing the nerves inside, continuing the process until I could finally destroy it. It took several minutes of continuous effort, but my escape game was successful.
I had often wondered if there was anyone who didn’t notice the noise or the sound of collapse, but what I saw when I left the room was a rental property quite far from the Asagami residence.
With that, I finally understood all of Kanade’s schemes.
“It was strange, I thought. You prepared that room alone, didn’t you? If you had confined me at home, there would’ve been a chance that others would notice eventually. Your judgment isn’t wrong, but as Akutsu suggested, you should have kept me in a dungeon.”
“Kuh… Kawada!”
“Ha.”
Kanade sent a sharp gaze towards the man with sunglasses called Kawada.
At the same time, the man released Hina from her restraints.
“Kyah…”
Hina was thrown to the ground like a piece of luggage.
I shouldn’t leave her alone, but the immediate concern is dealing with the sunglasses guy who’s closing in on me.
Even now, I’m barely able to stand, having kept my composure until this point.
He doesn’t seem to have much physical ability. I have no choice but to take him down in one go.
“Hey, old man. I’m at my limit, so don’t take it personally!”
I narrowly dodge the punch from the man trying to restrain me and slam a full-powered knee kick into his abdomen.
“Guh!”
There was a solid response. The man with sunglasses staggered while clutching his abdomen.
However, the pain must have been severe, as he soon changed his posture to crouch down.
I then struck his neck with my fist. Unable to move from the pain, the sunglasses man succumbed to the ground.
At the same time, my own strength was nearing its limit. I’m panting heavily and eventually drop to my knees.
“Nothing’s changed, huh? You’re always like this.”
“That goes for the both of us.”
I returned sarcastically, and Kanade’s fists trembled.
There was no usual innocence in her, rather the completed form of a broken girl acting on raw emotion.
“So, what’s next? Your trusted piece has fallen, and Akutsu is in the hospital, right? Are you going to do it alone?”
“Yeah. Fortunately, Minato is battered right now. Maybe I can manage on my own.”
As she said that, Kanade took a stun gun out of her pocket.
“Don’t let──”
Thrown to the ground, Hina tried to stand up.
But it seemed she had broken her leg from the impact, as she immediately lost balance and clutched her right ankle.
“(She did have it after all. Damn, this is really bad…)”
The pain and bleeding wouldn’t stop. Any more and it would seriously endanger my life.
Move, move.
I kept telling myself, trying to stand up, but with the heavy chains, the drugs, and the continuous bleeding, my body wouldn’t move as I wanted──
And I finally allowed “another person’s” fierce attack to reach me.
“You’re in the way, Kanade-chan.”
“Eh…”
With that familiar voice, drops of red liquid followed. The owner of the voice didn’t need to be imagined.
I looked up weakly to see my sister, who I didn’t want──and shouldn’t have been here.
Kanade, who was in a dominant position just seconds ago──was now spitting blood.
“Why…?”
Kanade couldn’t accept reality yet and looked at the source of discomfort in her abdomen.
She was stabbed.
The weapon of choice that Ryo, my sister, often had to forcefully suppress──a fruit knife was fully embedded…
“Why you ask… don’t you get it? Kanade-chan, you’re actually quite dumb.”
As she pulled out the fruit knife, Kanade’s body sank.
She was trembling, so she might still be conscious.
The perpetrator who stabbed Kanade turned to face me.
There was the beaming smile she had only ever shown to family…
