Chapter 26: Learning Something New

Su Bao seemed to see through Mo Yan’s thoughts, “Don’t think I was eavesdropping; it’s not my fault my hearing is too good.”

Mo Yan: “…”

Why did this little stoic sound like she was telling a cold joke?

“Why do you call Fu Lang an unlucky guy?” Mo Yan couldn’t help but ask out of curiosity.

Su Bao tilted her head, looking at him as if she couldn’t understand, “He’s facing a disaster out of nowhere. If I hadn’t helped him avert it, he’d be a wandering ghost by now. Isn’t that unlucky?”

“Out of nowhere, what do you mean?”

If it was a disaster, there must be a cause and effect, possibly due to some wrongdoing leading to a bad outcome.

Why describe it as out of nowhere?

Su Bao pondered for a moment.

She couldn’t quite figure it out either.

“He’s surrounded by resentment, likely targeted by a vengeful ghost. But strangely, he doesn’t have any severe karmic debt.”

No wrongdoing, yet surrounded by resentment.

This was what puzzled Su Bao the most.

It was this confusion that made her think Fu Lang was unlucky.

Mo Qiao Qiao was happily walking between Su Bao and Mo Yan…

Chattering excitedly to herself.

“Su Bao, what do you like to eat?”

“I love minced eggplant! I’ll take you to try it later, okay?”

“And tomato scrambled eggs, with lots and lots of sugar, sweet and delicious!”

After rambling on for a while, Mo Qiao Qiao realized she was gradually being edged to the back by her cousin.

She looked bewildered at Mo Yan and Su Bao ahead, unable to understand.

Just confused, she followed along.

Once they reached the cafeteria, Mo Qiao Qiao energetically pushed forward, squeezing Mo Yan aside…

“Su Bao, I’ll take you to eat something delicious!”

The perfect pair began queuing.

When it was Mo Qiao Qiao’s turn, she was as excited as ever…

“Su Bao, look, this is minced eggplant! Auntie, I want this! Su Bao, you have this too!”

Su Bao looked at the eggplant dish with specks of minced meat.

She decisively took a step back.

“Su Bao! Look, tomato scrambled eggs, super tasty! Auntie, I’ll have one of these!”

Mo Qiao Qiao enthusiastically promoted.

Su Bao eyed the large bowl of colorful tomato scrambled eggs, devoid of even minced meat.

So she quietly took another step back.

Meat!

Only meat!

Nothing in the world tasted better than meat!

So while Mo Qiao Qiao was distracted, Su Bao quickly moved to the meat dishes window.

Coincidentally, she ended up right behind Mo Yan.

Though Mo Yan usually found dealing with women bothersome, he still had the courtesy, “You first.”

Su Bao’s eyes sparkled as she looked at him.

In her mind, she temporarily crossed Mo Yan’s name off her little blacklist.

“Auntie, eight chicken drumsticks.”

Su Bao seriously watched the auntie’s hands, counting each drumstick, finally feeling at ease.

Mo Yan looked at the tray piled with chicken drumsticks, feeling like he was witnessing something new, while also instinctively finding it a bit much.

Su Bao carried her tray full of chicken drumsticks, reluctantly glancing at the other meat dishes, seemingly unwilling to leave them behind.

Mo Yan had a strange feeling that if the tray were bigger, she might have taken a serving of every meat dish.
