I Can Distinguish the Twin Sister - Chapter 13
“Okay, the logbooks are in order. Good job, you two.”
After school, I handed in my journal to my homeroom teacher and my work as the day duty was over.
After saying goodbye to the teacher, I walked with Yomi-san and felt relieved that the work had been done surprisingly quickly.
I had expected to make Masashi wait a little longer, but I finished my work more smoothly than expected.
“It went faster than I thought, didn’t it? ”
“Yes. Now I don’t have to keep him waiting.”
“He’s off with a cold. I’ll tell him to get better as soon as possible.”
“I’ll be right with you. If he heard your voice, he’d probably jump out of his skin.”
“What’s that?”
I think I’m right.
He’s a guy who devotes himself to two-dimensional things, but he has the desire to have a relationship with three-dimensional girls, too.
“Ah, yes, that’s right.”
“What’s wrong? ”
Yomi-san suddenly remembered something and looked at me as she raised her voice.
“Lately, Aneki has been very lively. Do you know anything about it? ”
“Why are you asking me? ”
“I just thought you might know something about it…”
” ….. ”
Whether Rin’ne-san is lively or not, I can imagine a little when I remember her smile during lunch break.
I didn’t want to sound presumptuous in saying it was because of me.
Besides, when I remember lunch break, I remember holding Rin’ne-san in my arms, and my cheeks get hot.
( Damn… it only takes a little bit of consciousness to make me like this. The softness and everything are still in my mind… )
…and Rin’ne-san’s shy expression.
Yomi-san looked at me curiously as I blushed because I imagined something like that, and after I coughed, I told her that I didn’t understand what she was saying.
“Hm? Strangely, I’m suspicious of you… maybe it’s not true. But somehow, I get the feeling you’re involved.”
” ……. ”
Hey Rin’ne-san.
I have no idea why you told me not to tell her that I could tell them apart yet. But… I’m basically a bad liar, so I might not be able to fool her anymore.
At this time, I seemed to have a very troubled look on my face.
Yomi-san, who was the one who was pursuing me, seemed to be in trouble to the extent that she got flustered.
“D-don’t think so much! I’m just a person who gets caught up in things once they’re in my mind… sorry.”
“No, you don’t have to apologize at all. I understand how you feel.”
I’m also the type of person who cares about a lot of things once I start to care about them… Ah, thinking about that reminds me of the lunch break again.
But when I think back to that time, it’s really unbelievable that Yomi-san originally called herself “ore”.
“What’s wrong? ”
She is gorgeous.
I don’t think she ever used the first person “ore” at all, but I somehow know that Rin’ne-san must not have been lying, either.
I thought it would be okay to ask her at least this much, so I boldly asked her.
“Hey, Aragaki-san.”
“What….? Why is my last name? Didn’t you call me Yomi before? ”
“No, it was just to distinguish you from Rin’ne-san.”
“It doesn’t matter if you use it anytime. Can I call you Akito? ”
“Huh? ”
It was a little funny that the two sisters looked alike in the atmosphere they mixed in their words.
“Wait, is that so funny? ”
“No, I just thought it was similar to Rin’ne-san.”
“Aneki……? ”
I cut into Yomi-san, who is wondering why Rin’ne-san’s name is mentioned there.
“Yomi-san used to call herself ‘ore’? ”
“How did you know that? ”
“I had a chance to talk to Rin’ne-san today, that’s why.”
“……damn Aneki. She’s talking nonsense! ”
Rin’ne-san told me that I could talk to her at lunchtime when we parted, so there should be no problem.
Yomi-san sighed, her cheeks flushed a little red as she told me she had no choice if I knew about it from her Aneki.
“I don’t know how much Aneki told you about this, but we used to be mischievous kids anyway, and, well, I was more mischievous than Aneki.”
“I heard you two were naughty.”
“Ah, yeah. But it sounds like you didn’t hear anything else, isn’t it? ”
“Well, that’s about all I heard. Wait, what? Is there something more?! ”
“Don’t get too excited! ”
She lightly poked me on the shoulder, and I apologized.
Yomi-san looked puffy for a while, but after a short walk, she smiled, looked at me again, and said,
“I knew it. I can talk about many things naturally with you, Nagase-kun; no, I mean Akito… I wasn’t angry with you earlier, but rather I was having a good time.”
“Then I feel relieved.”
“I really wonder why… well, I’ll tell you one thing that Aneki didn’t tell you either. Listen to me with all your heart.”
“Ha! Okay! ”
I straightened my posture as if I had received a word from the queen.
What am I doing in the middle of the hallway? I thought to myself that other people in the room might think so… In such an atmosphere, Yomi-san continued to speak with a smile on her face, not hiding the fact that she was having a good time.
“It’s no big deal ―we used to be like boys, as the word ‘naughty’ implies. I think many people thought we were boys back then, even though we’re not like that now.”
“Well… uh, I can’t imagine that.”
“I’m a woman now, aren’t I? ”
Yomi-san winked and struck a pose that looked like something a model would do.
She was posing in a way that made the most of the weapons she had, and I muttered a small “yes” and looked away, to which Yomi-san smiled broadly as if she was in a good mood.
“Right. You used to be like a boy… but now there….”
“What’s the matter? ”
“….no, it’s nothing.”
Yomi-san stared at me, seemingly puzzled.
I was the only reflection in her beautiful eyes, and just staring at her like this made me feel as if Yomi-san and I were separated from the world.
When I reached out my hand toward her, Yomi-san also reached out her hand as if responding to me.
Our hands naturally overlapped each other, and our hands were joined together as if we were tying a seashell knot.
” …… ”
“Time… is it all right? ”
We gently let go of each other’s hands, and Yomi-san’s words startled me.
I checked my watch from the corridor and found that the time had passed so much that it made up for the fact that we had finished early, which must be because Yomi-san and I had been talking for so long.
When I returned to the classroom with Yomi-san, Rin’ne-san was waiting for us, but I quickly grabbed my bag and turned my back to them.
“Well then, I’ll hurry up! Rin’ne-san, Yomi-san, bye! ”
“Goodbye, Akito!”
“See you tomorrow! ”
I then hurried to Masashi’s place, but as I was leaving the classroom, I overheard this exchange behind me.
“Hey Aneki! I think you told him I was the one who called myself “ore” ! ? ”
“Oh, shouldn’t I? It’s a cute gap.”
“I’m so embarrassed to hear that out of the blue! ”
I apologize for that in my heart.
“No, no. I have to quickly go to Masashi. ”
In the end, when I met up with Masashi, his first words to me were that I was late.
I bowed my apologies and went to Yoshiki’s house, where he seemed to be in bed with a cold.
* * *
“Come on, Yomi, pick up your mood.”
“I’m not in a bad mood! ”
When Akito ran out of the classroom, the two sisters exchanged some words.
The conversation was about Rin’ne’s past in Yomi’s absence.
( But after all, he didn’t told her, didn’t he? )
Rinne laughed at the fact that Yomi had closed the distance between them as soon as Akito was gone, and she was glad that her sister had become such a good friend of his.
Rin’ne and Yomi walk home together.
While listening to Yomi’s conversation, Rin’ne thinks about Akito.
( I really enjoy talking with him. And also, I’m sure Yomi will get mad at me eventually, but it’s nice that I’m the only one who knows his secret.)
Rin’ne laughed, knowing that she would probably complain even more strongly then.
( But this is probably not love. I just want to enjoy the time with him… I feel safe and nostalgic next to him, and the frustration of not knowing what’s there when it’s obvious that something is there is not so bad. ―fufu♪, I never thought I would feel something like this )
It is an unknown feeling, but it is not bad at all.
Maybe she wouldn’t have felt this way if she didn’t feel anything for Akito. At least, Rin’ne thinks about Akito enough to make her feel that way.
“Hey, Yomi.”
“What’s up?”
“Don’t you think Akito is a very nice person? ”
“Don’t you think it goes without saying? He protected us like that, and moreover, he’s kind enough to think about his sick friends.”
They talked about Akito until they arrived home, but their smiles were more childish than people had ever seen them smile at school.
