Military marriage: After not seeing each other for many years, it was painless to become a mother as soon as we met - Chapter 17 On the Train
“What’s wrong with you? This shelf is full of your stuff! There’s no room for anything else!”
The voice was sharp and sarcastic. Gu Qingcheng paused, looking towards the source of the voice. The person was a young man in his thirties.
Gu Qingcheng asked, “Are you talking to me?”
“Otherwise?” the man rolled his eyes. “You’re the one with the most stuff here. What are you doing carrying so much stuff, a young woman like you? It’s taking up so much space on the train.”
Gu Qingcheng was shocked. She checked several times to make sure she only brought three bags.
One contained snacks, one contained other gifts to give away, and the other contained her clothes. The three bags weren’t big; in her future life, they would only be the size of medium-sized shopping bags. And one of the bags was even on the floor. How could the entire shelf be filled with her things?
Gu Qingcheng, no longer holding back, said, “Brother, I only put two bags on this shelf. How come they’re all mine? Can’t you see the other suitcases?”
“Or are you going to give me other people’s things? Then I’ll accept it if you say everything on this shelf is mine.”
Gu Qingcheng didn’t finish her sentence: “If you have bad eyesight, go get it checked out outside, don’t come here biting people.”
The man opposite her was clearly unreasonable: “I don’t care, I don’t have enough space for my things, you have to take yours down!”
With that, the man took Gu Qingcheng’s things off the shelf and put his own bag on top.
Gu Qingcheng was furious. Where did this thug come from? How could he take someone else’s things without their permission?
His upbringing was appalling.
She quickly retorted, “I put it there first. There’s a first-come, first-served rule. Things can be placed on the floor of the carriage; you don’t have to put it on the shelf.”
Gu Qingcheng took her luggage and put it back on the shelf.
The man became enraged, uttering a vulgar insult.
“You bitch, do you know how valuable the things in this bag are? Who gave you the audacity to put them on the floor? If they get damaged, can you afford to pay for them?”
Gu Qingcheng knew that only someone with a thick skin could utter such shameless words.
She didn’t bother arguing with him. This man should be grateful they were in a public place; if this were anywhere else, she would definitely teach him a lesson.
As the saying goes, if you have a problem, go to the police. Of course, this was on a train, and there were no police around, so Gu Qingcheng went to the train conductor.
She deliberately exaggerated the situation, escalating it to accusations of intentional insults, personal abuse, and causing psychological trauma.
Upon hearing this, the train conductor was surprised at the seriousness of the situation.
Without delay, he quickly followed Gu Qingcheng to the carriage.
Inside the carriage, the man sat on his berth, legs crossed, looking smug. Seeing the conductor following Gu Qingcheng, he chuckled.
“He even brought backup? Ha! You could bring the King of Heaven himself, but I wouldn’t budge an inch today.”
Gu Qingcheng rolled her eyes. This man’s mouth was too foul; she wouldn’t be able to vent her anger until she taught him a lesson.
The train conductor, also annoyed by the man’s words, said, “Excuse me, passenger, we understand what happened. We hope you can take your luggage down from the rack and place it on the floor of your compartment so as not to disrupt the order of the carriage.”
The man retorted arrogantly, “What if someone accidentally steps on it and damages it?”
The conductor hesitated, then said, “You can put it on your berth; that way, no one will step on it.”
“Why? I paid for this berth. It’s not very big to begin with. Putting luggage on it will take up even more space. How am I supposed to sleep?”
The conductor, after much restraint, conceded, “Okay, I’ll put your luggage in the attendant’s office for you. That way, no one will step on it and damage the items inside, and it won’t take up your space.”
This solution was indeed good, but the man’s emotions became even more intense than before.
“Are you deaf to me? I need to keep an eye on my own luggage; otherwise, I won’t feel at ease.”
Neither this nor that worked. The conductor had reached his limit; this man was clearly being unreasonable.
The surrounding passengers were getting annoyed, each one taking the moral high ground to criticize Gu Qingcheng.
“You’ve already put one piece of luggage on the rack, while that young man hasn’t put any on. What’s wrong with him putting one on?”
“Exactly! They even called the train conductor over such a small matter. What a fuss!”
“They don’t know how to consider others at all. If this were my daughter, I’d definitely get physical.”
Gu Qingcheng felt increasingly suffocated, frowning, “Since you’re all so generous, why don’t you take your own things down and let him put them on? Why make me make room?”
Everyone choked, falling silent. The carriage was full of people coming and going; no one wanted their things on the floor to be stepped on.
Putting them on their own bunks felt like a waste of their expensive tickets.
Human selfishness was on full display.
Seeing everyone stammering, Gu Qingcheng continued, “Yes, I did put two bags in, but that complies with railway baggage regulations, right? It doesn’t exceed the size limit, does it? But you guys, one of your suitcases is bigger than both of my bags, and you don’t even mention it.”
Everyone fell silent instantly. They hadn’t expected this girl to be so ruthless when she argued.
The man smiled smugly. What good is all that talk?
He can’t do anything about it.
“Don’t give me that nonsense. No matter who comes today, I’m not moving my things.”
The train conductor was in a dilemma. The man’s behavior didn’t violate railway passenger regulations, so he couldn’t take any coercive measures against him.
He turned slightly and coughed twice: “Comrade, I’m sorry, this matter might be…”
Gu Qingcheng expressed her understanding: “It’s alright, thank you for stepping in for me. Let’s just leave it at that. I’ll put my things on the ground.”
The train conductor felt even more apologetic: “It’s our duty to serve passengers. How about this, I’ll report this to my superiors today and see if we can reduce your ticket price. It shouldn’t be a problem.”
Upon hearing about the discount, Gu Qingcheng quickly expressed her gratitude: “Thank you so much!”
“It’s nothing.”
The train conductor left after saying this, but the people in the compartment couldn’t sit still.
If they had been told earlier that the ticket price would be reduced, they could have put their things on the berths!
At the very least, they could have put them on the floor!
Their minds were racing; what they initially found absolutely unacceptable had suddenly changed their minds because of the discount.
Gu Qingcheng was completely unaware of all this. She didn’t say another word. She took out a boxed lunch from her backpack; it was time for dinner.
