- Chapter 30 - Are You Teaching Me How to Do My Job?
Blood flowed from Ansel’s ten fingers that Leon had cut. Of course, it wasn’t for treatment, but to hide his true ability.
To do something that fit the historical context. According to Leon’s memory, medicine in this era was not advanced, even the darkest moment of medical skills. Craniotomy, bloodletting, and enemas were the three main methods doctors used. A minor illness could lead to death from treatment, so many people who got sick were unwilling to go to the hospital and chose the church instead.
Holy water cured all diseases.
If this wasn’t an extraordinary world, Leon would definitely not believe that holy water had any effect. Unfortunately, there were true gods in this world, so the effect of holy water was elevated by a notch, at least it wasn’t just silver mixed in for disinfection.
Looking at Ansel’s pained expression, Leon said with feigned depth,
“After this dirty blood is released, remember to eat more to replenish your strength. You will become a normal person again.”
“Can I… can I really recover?”
“Haven’t you noticed that after this blood flowed out, you are no longer so afraid of the light? Isn’t my voice clearer, and your body no longer itchy?”
Leon asked.
“Yes, thank you, thank you. You are truly a divine physician. You are truly amazing, Lord.”
Ansel said excitedly, “How can I thank you?”
“Tell me where Giovanni Keegan lives.”
Leon got the exact address from Ansel, left his wooden house, and instructed the bartender, “He’s fine now, but all of you must go to the church immediately.”
“Is he… really fine?”
The bartender said in disbelief.
Layla nodded heavily, “My teacher, Lord Leon, is the best divine physician. If he says he’s fine, then he’s fine.”
Layla had completely become Leon’s fan. Her eyes were filled with admiration when she looked at Leon.
Leon took the sword back from her hand and handed her a dagger.
“This sword is still too heavy for your age. Take this.”
“Okay, Teacher.”
Layla took the light dagger, treasuring it greatly.
“Let’s go, let’s find the source of infection.”
Leon got into the carriage. Anna, Annie, and Layla also followed.
The arriving guards split into two groups. One group escorted the people from the tavern to the church to get holy water, and the other group followed Leon’s carriage to find Giovanni Keegan.
Giovanni Keegan lived at the Fortune Inn in the outer city.
This resulted in everyone at the Fortune Inn already showing signs of illness. They were all curled up in their rooms, wrapped in blankets, afraid of sunlight.
“Lord Leon, there are a total of 33 people, all infected with the disease. Should we bury them all alive?”
Guard Captain Cob covered his mouth and nose and said. Burial was their usual method of dealing with such plague outbreaks.
“Captain, please don’t do that. My father and mother are still inside.”
The guard named Andrew pleaded.
He was a handsome young man, particularly prominent in the guard troop because of his fair skin and slender build, often teased and ridiculed by everyone.
To prove himself, he always stayed at the guard camp for training and rarely went home.
And his parents were the owners of this inn.
When he saw the carriage approach his familiar area, he had a premonition of disaster.
He hadn’t expected the worst outcome to happen. The Fortune Inn had actually become a severely affected area of the plague.
“Andrew, you should know what the Red Itch Plague means. I can only promise you that you can see them one last time.”
Cob said seriously, as if this was his final act of mercy.
Andrew fell to his knees with a thud, grabbed Cob’s clothes with both hands, and said with red eyes, “At least, at least let me bring my sister out. She, she is only 8 years old this year.”
Cob shook his head, “Andrew, if you insist on this, you can only withdraw from this operation.”
Andrew’s eyes became desperate. He released his hands.
“Seal off the inn. No one is allowed in or out without my command.”
Leon suddenly said.
Cob and Andrew both looked at the luxurious carriage.
The young Lord, dressed in splendid formal wear and handsome, stepped down from the carriage. He walked towards the inn with vigorous strides and a determined gaze.
“What are you going to do?”
Cob asked in confusion.
Was he going to personally bring the people out and bury them alive? That would be too inconsistent with the Lord’s status, wouldn’t it?
“Of course, I’m going to save people.”
Leon seemed not to have seen Andrew kneeling on the ground, nor did he pay attention to the shocked expression on Cob’s face.
“You can’t go in. It’s too dangerous. This is already a severely affected area. If you go in and get infected, what will happen to Green Shade Territory?”
Cob said with concern, his steps already following Leon.
Leon turned back and looked at him with a serious expression,
“Didn’t you hear me? Without my permission, none of you are allowed in. I can go in alone.”
“You cannot risk yourself for a group of commoners. You are the Lord.”
Cob said loudly.
“Are you teaching me how to do my job?”
200 points per person, 33 people is 6600 points! This doesn’t even count the overflow points from the source of infection!
Leon showed a displeased expression towards Captain Cob, who was hindering his accumulation of points.
Cob swallowed and stopped in his tracks.
“Captain Cob, you don’t need to worry. Teacher is a divine physician; he will cure everyone.”
Layla, supported by Annie, also got off the carriage. She wanted to go into the inn with Leon, but unfortunately, Leon stopped her.
“Layla, you should go home. When Romiada gets back and doesn’t see you, he’ll suspect I took you to be buried alive. You need to make some sacrifices for my reputation, for example, put away your curiosity, hurry home and reunite with your parents, and tell them the good news of your recovery. Have them prepare your tuition fee; teaching people is not cheap.”
“I understand.”
Layla lowered her head regretfully. She also wanted to learn how to treat illnesses and save people, although she had already decided to become a knight.
“Anna, you accompany Layla back, lest Romiada doesn’t know how much tuition to pay.”
“Alright, Lord Leon.”
Anna and Layla left in the carriage. Leon had Annie and Cob guard the inn entrance and walked in alone.
Seeing this scene, the guards all showed shocked expressions.
Never before had a Lord treated commoners, and sick commoners at that, in such a way.
In the eyes of the nobles, commoners’ lives had always been worthless, unless they needed their votes for an election, at which point they would try to win them over.
But Leon could, even knowing they were all infected with the Red Itch Plague, face death without fear, disregard his own safety, and enter the severely affected area to treat the sick.
Although they did not agree with his actions, they were moved by his character.
“Lord Leon really went in? For those commoners?”
“Lord Leon is different from everyone else. Although he is just an illegitimate son, he possesses noble qualities.”
“Will Lord Leon be alright?”
Only then did Andrew react. Unfortunately, when he wanted to follow, the door had already closed.
He nervously clenched his fists, secretly vowing that if Lord Leon could save his parents and sister, he would repay him with everything he had, even if it meant sticking out his butt, he wouldn’t utter a sound.
