- Chapter 13 - Is This a Commercial Movie Script?
Is This a Commercial Movie Script?
After an unknown amount of time passed, Koike Koichi followed Kimura’s suggestions and re-edited the scene.
He clicked the mouse to play.
In the frame, only the shoes of a woman in a red dress were visible, moving forward slowly.
Step by step, her destination unknown.
When the woman’s steps paused, the scene shifted to her point of view.
At the edge of the rooftop, dozens of stories high from the ground, the people below appeared as tiny as ants.
The wind gently swayed the woman’s skirt.
Immediately, a panoramic view from the rooftop revealed the entire scene.
A woman in a red dress stood quietly at the rooftop edge.
The woman turned her head slowly.
The camera cut to a close-up of the woman turning her head.
Red, swollen eyes filled with tears, a pitiable expression that anyone would find heartbreaking.
Suddenly, the woman’s mouth curved into a sinister, grimacing smile. With an upward twist at the corner of her mouth, yet gritting her teeth, her body leaned forward.
The screen went black, then returned to the original panoramic view.
The spot where the woman had stood was now empty, and in the lower right corner of the frame, a black leather shoe appeared, its arrival unnoticed.
……
Koike stared blankly for a long time, and a wave of shocking goosebumps appeared on his arms.
There it is, the suspense is there!
The combination of these shots completely highlighted the original suspense of the plot.
He could even imagine how, with added voiceovers – the sound of rushing wind, rhythmic footsteps, and the piercing siren wail – this scene would become truly spectacular.
At least it would be much better than his initial edit.
Quickly, Koike saved and exported the sequence from the editing software.
“Fantastic, this scene is fantastic.” Koike was a bit excited. “Kimura-senpai, can I use this scene we just edited?”
“You can.”
With the affirmative reply, Koike sent the exported sequence to the teacher’s email.
【Email Sent Successfully】
The cold indifference on Koike’s face suddenly disappeared.
“Thank you, Kimura-senpai. Without your help, I couldn’t have edited such an amazing scene.”
Kimura waved his hand and smiled, “It’s all about capturing good shots. Otherwise, the effect wouldn’t be the same.”
Koike fell silent.
“These shots weren’t filmed by me.”
“Hmm?”
“It’s an assignment for my editing class… The shots were given by the teacher, and I only edited them into a sequence.”
Koike scratched his head.
???
For some reason, looking at the line “Email Sent Successfully” on the screen again, Kimura couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth.
Did he just… get taken advantage of?
Kimura blinked, and in his mind, a single word popped up.
Freeloading?
Looking again at Koike, who was now smiling, Kimura suddenly felt it was a bit challenging to meet his gaze.
Originally, he thought he was a dedicated and hardworking young man with ambitions.
And now you’re telling me he just did this to rush an assignment for the editing class teacher?!
“Kimura-senpai, you’re here for the graduation project, right? My sister mentioned it before.”
“Sister?”
Kimura was momentarily stunned.
“Yeah, my sister… Koike Yui,” Koike Koichi smiled.
Kimura suddenly became more magnanimous in his thoughts.
He knew there was something special between these two! Both named Koike, and their features were so similar.
“So, you’re Yui-sensei’s brother!” Kimura’s smile grew wider. “No wonder you’re so talented… managing to edit the scenes so smoothly from the beginning.”
“No, no, it’s Kimura-senpai who’s amazing. In just a short time, you came up with such fantastic scenes.” Koike Koichi modestly declined.
Kimura’s smile became even more radiant, and somehow…
The more he looked at the young man in front of him, the more he liked him.
“Oh, by the way, Kimura-senpai, which equipment do you need? I’ll help you organize them,” Koike said, gesturing towards the neatly arranged photography equipment on the shelves behind him.
The variety of machines dazzled Kimura.
But compared to the cold and sterile equipment in the photography department, he already had a better plan in mind.
“Are you interested in making movies, kouhai?” Kimura asked.
“Making movies?” Koike looked puzzled.
“Yes, join our drama group as the cinematographer!” Kimura earnestly extended the invitation.
Koike’s mouth hung slightly open in surprise, hands swaying in front of him.
“But, it’s just a graduation project… not really making a movie,” Koike hesitated.
“Koike-kouhai, actually, I…” Kimura struggled with his words, attempting to convince him.
Seeing this, Koike quickly stood up, bowing slightly. “I’m sorry, Kimura-senpai, but I really can’t join your drama group.”
This stance made the words at the tip of Kimura’s tongue swallow back, and he looked at Koike with a hint of regret.
It seemed that Yui’s plan to coerce Koichi had failed…
“Okay, if that’s the case, I won’t insist,” Kimura said with a touch of disappointment.
Koike returned to his seat.
“Although I can’t join, I can help you recruit people from the Photography Club to join Kimura-senpai’s drama group… If you need actors, I can also introduce a few classmates to be the leads and supporting roles in Senpai’s work.”
“That sounds good!” Kimura considered.
“There’s no need for the leads, but if you can help with the cinematographer and supporting roles, I’d appreciate it, Koike-kouhai.”
“Uh? Are the leads already decided?” Koike asked.
“Yes, they are.”
“Is Kimura-senpai going to play the male lead?”
“Yes.”
“Uh… What about the female lead?”
“She’s also from Kiyomi University, but in the Acting Department – Asuka.”
“Asuka…” Koike furrowed his brows slightly, then his eyes widened suddenly. “Is it Asuka-senpai who played in ‘The Disappearance of the Third Person’?”
From memory, Asuka seemed to have indeed appeared in this drama.
“Most likely,” Kimura nodded.
Koike stood up again and bowed, “Kimura-senpai, please let me join your drama group.”
A sudden turnaround? Kimura raised an eyebrow, looking at the young man before him.
“But, Koike-kouhai, weren’t you just…”
“I’m a devoted fan of Asuka-senpai. I’ve been supporting her since her debut. Please, Senpai, give me this opportunity!”
Kimura suddenly understood.
……
Office of the Kiyomi Art University.
Koike Yui stared at the script on the desk, her eyes reddened. The thick script had already been flipped through more than half.
Finally, she understood why this script was so thick…
No wonder the script Kimura handed in was twice as thick as the thickest scripts of other students.
How could this be a script for a graduation project?!
“This is a complete script for a commercial movie!”
It had a complete plot, emotional storyline, highly operable script, and novel ideas that were eye-catching.
No matter how you looked at it, this was a script that could be used to start shooting a commercial movie directly. It didn’t seem like the work of a university student for a graduation project.
Koike Yui was at a loss for words for a moment.
Could it be that he intended to shoot this entire movie as his graduation project?
We are currently recruiting. CN/KR/JP Translators/MTLers are welcome!
