- Chapter 51 - The One Who Said “Don’t Cry”
Watching Li Cheng silently weep, Yan Xun was completely at a loss.
His lips parted, but for a long time, no words came out.
“That’s… not what I meant.” He hurriedly pulled a tissue from the box, intending to wipe Li Cheng’s tears.
Li Cheng didn’t look at him, his voice fragile and low. “Not what meaning?”
“Anyway…” Yan Xun had no idea how to respond to what Li Cheng had said earlier. “Anyway, don’t cry.”
Li Cheng lifted his hazy eyes slightly, their corners tinged with a rosy hue, like the delicate bloom of a pink rose after rain. Meeting Yan Xun’s gaze, his voice trembled with pleading and wounded grievance.
“Why don’t you want me…”
Damn it.
Yan Xun’s hand shook. Who the hell could take this?
“I never said I didn’t want you.” Yan Xun scrambled in his mind to string together words that made sense.
“Just… don’t cry, okay?”
But as soon as he said that, Li Cheng began to cry even harder.
“You really didn’t stop wanting me?” His red-rimmed eyes shimmered with tears, his voice so small that Yan Xun barely dared to breathe.
“Really, I didn’t.” Yan Xun replied almost instantly.
Hearing that, Li Cheng leaned forward a little, then hesitantly lifted his hands and slowly wrapped them once more around Yan Xun’s waist.
“Then why did you make me leave? You knew I had nowhere to go, but you still kicked me out…”
Li Cheng’s voice wavered again, choked and soft, carrying the kind of sorrow that made one’s heart twist.
Only then did Yan Xun realize—Li Cheng had nowhere else to stay after leaving the villa. A pang of guilt hit him square in the chest.
“I didn’t know you had nowhere to go. I’m not kicking you out anymore.” Yan Xun thought bitterly that he had no idea how to comfort anyone.
Before, whenever someone cried, he’d only feel annoyed. But now, seeing Li Cheng like this, all he wanted was to pull him close and keep him safe.
Li Cheng rubbed lightly against his chest, then lifted his face. His long lashes glittered with tears as he blinked up at him. “I don’t want to break up with you…”
Saying that, he tightened his arms around Yan Xun.
Yan Xun froze. In Li Cheng’s heart, he and Yan Jin were still the same person—no matter how much he wanted to separate the two, Li Cheng couldn’t.
Looking at the person trembling in his arms, Yan Xun wasn’t even sure anymore if what he felt was compromise or something else entirely.
“We won’t break up.”
He rubbed Li Cheng’s head gently. “Don’t cry.”
His hand moved soothingly over Li Cheng’s back and waist, his tone softer than he’d ever spoken before.
“I’m no good at comforting people.”
“How about I take you out for something good to eat?”
“You really mean it? We’re not breaking up?” Li Cheng asked again, voice barely above a whisper.
“Really.”
Li Cheng loosened his hold just slightly, creating a sliver of space between them. “But you don’t like me. I don’t want you to force yourself to be with me.”
By now, Yan Xun understood. The way he cared about Li Cheng—how this inexplicable concern had lodged itself so deeply—if that wasn’t liking someone, then what was?
“I like you.”
“I really do. And it’s not forced.” His gaze locked onto Li Cheng’s, his deep eyes suddenly clear, his emotions simple and unmistakable.
“You really like me?” Li Cheng’s tears slipped down again.
Yan Xun brushed them away with his thumb. “I do.”
Maybe he had liked him from the very start—from the first moment they met—but he’d just refused to admit it.
“I’ve always… always liked you.”
Li Cheng turned his face away, his tone faintly accusing. “You’ve always bullied me.”
Yan Xun stroked his fingers over his palm. “I was stupid before. You can hit me if you want.”
“From now on, I’ll treat you well. I’ll give you only the best.”
“Don’t be mad at me anymore, alright?”
Li Cheng stayed silent.
Yan Xun caught his hand again, blurting out a string of apologies.
“You can bully me from now on instead.”
Li Cheng lifted his gaze. “You said it.”
“Yeah.” Yan Xun nodded earnestly. “I said it. From now on, you can bully me all you want.”
Li Cheng frowned slightly, an impatient flicker crossing his face for a second. Still black… the Heart-Sealing Technique hasn’t bloomed.
[Fox Host… if Yan Xun truly said he likes you, why hasn’t the Heart-Sealing Technique blossomed? Not even one tail sprouted…]
You think it’s some snack you can just buy? Li Cheng’s expression darkened. The Heart-Sealing Technique follows the rhythm of one’s heart—it doesn’t make mistakes. Maybe Yan Xun just misunderstood his feelings. He still doesn’t really like me.
[But look at the way he’s staring at you—there’s clearly emotion there.]
Doesn’t matter, Li Cheng thought darkly. He’s my man. I’ll handle it myself. I’ll find a way.
[He’s your husband, technically.]
Same thing.
Yan Xun cupped Li Cheng’s face, drawing him closer. The cramped car filled with warmth again as the air grew thick between them.
“Still cold?” Yan Xun asked softly.
“Not anymore.” Li Cheng’s voice was drowsy, heavy with sleep.
