- Chapter 127 - The Gentlemanly Professor with a Sinister Side (13) She’s Taken. Try Again Next Life
Shu Min had already lost 20 points for being late the day before.
And today, she was once again—unfortunately—absent.
Only this time, it wasn’t because she was avoiding Wen Yuli. It was because she was hungover and completely drained from an all-nighter with her new boyfriend, Chen Feng. She simply couldn’t drag herself out of bed.
At 10:30 a.m., her phone on the bedside table rang nonstop. Shu Min groggily answered, only to be bombarded again by her parents pressing her to seek out Wen Yuli for help.
“Can you stop already? Don’t you have all those connections you’ve built over the years? Why do I have to ruin myself begging Wen Yuli? I already have someone I like. I’m hanging up.”
On the other end of the line, her parents, who had been about to tell her the family company was struggling again and that her allowance would be halved this month, fell into a heavy silence.
After a while, her mother sighed.
“Maybe we should just let it be. She’s grown up now—she has her own thoughts. I don’t care if she becomes rich or not. I just want her to live a peaceful, happy life.”
Her father, Shu Zhenghong, slammed her secondary card’s spending statement down in front of her mother.
“You don’t care about wealth, but look how she spends! And did you hear what she said?”
“I’m not the kind of man who sells his daughter. I’ve spoiled Minmin since she was a kid. Now that we’re in trouble, all she thinks about is enjoying herself?”
“I never told her to climb the ladder and marry into power—just to use her position as a student to talk to Mr. Wen a bit more, to get us a meeting. Is that so hard?”
People their age had long learned to navigate the world with tact. Shu Min, however, had made no progress, nor did she seem to care about the pressure he was under. He was bitterly disappointed.
If not for Minmin’s future—to marry into a respectable family—why would he have lowered himself so much, swallowing his pride just to beg a favor?
After hanging up, Shu Min finally remembered she had class.
When she saw the glaring time on her screen—10:37—she couldn’t help but lash out at Chen Feng, who had just finished getting ready.
“You knew I had class today! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier? Do you only ever think with your lower half?”
Chen Feng was dumbfounded by the sudden slap.
“I did try to wake you! You kicked me—several times! You told me to shut up so you could sleep…”
Shu Min got even angrier when he talked back.
“I kicked you because you hurt me last night. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have overslept!”
Even though she had been the one who started things the night before.
Chen Feng quickly put on a look of remorse and wrapped her in a comforting hug.
“Okay, okay, it’s all my fault. Let’s just head to the fourth class now.”
Thankfully, there was a long break between periods three and four.
Shu Min made it to class just as the bell rang.
And as if cursed, the moment she and Chen Feng sat down in the second-to-last row, Wen Yuli walked in—and sat down diagonally behind them.
While Shu Min was fixing her makeup, she caught a glimpse of that cool, elegant face in her mirror—and nearly screamed.
Sensing her unease, Chen Feng pulled her trembling shoulders close and whispered,
“Minmin, what’s wrong? Still not feeling well?”
He’d dated a lot of girls, but none were as beautiful or wild as Shu Min. He also knew all about the Shu family’s current situation. She was easy prey.
In the last row, Wen Yuli finally looked away from the girl and glanced over at the overly affectionate couple in front of him. He thought to himself: next time, he’d have the kid save him a seat.
He wanted to sit beside her. Take notes for her.
That single, casual glance sent a chill down Shu Min’s spine. Her body trembled.
When Professor Huang called on her, she stood dazed, responding with completely off-topic nonsense.
All she could think about was: What if he calls me out in front of everyone after class? What do I tell Chen Feng then?
Would Chen Feng still help her family’s company?
The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became—Wen Yuli was the devil. Why else would he haunt her across lifetimes? Why else would he intentionally schedule his class next to Huang’s?
If I’d known this, I would’ve never signed up for this class!
When class finally ended, Shu Min was tense as a wire. She buried her face in Chen Feng’s chest.
Even the other students were speechless.
“Could you two find somewhere else to flirt? You’re blocking the way.”
Reluctantly, Shu Min got up—only to see that Wen Yuli was no longer in his seat.
He left?
Did he see she had a boyfriend and finally give up?
Just then, excited voices rang out from the front of the room.
“Say yes! Say yes!”
“Su Xuejie, look over here!”
“And over here! Su-jie, we love you!”
Shu Min followed the sound, but couldn’t see who was surrounded. Judging from the flowers and classmates’ chatter, someone must be getting confessed to.
So many bouquets? Were they lining up to confess?
The moment she thought that, a figure stepped out of the crowd and froze her blood.
Wen Yuli! He hadn’t left.
She immediately tugged on Chen Feng to leave.
Chen Feng, curious, resisted.
“Let’s just see what’s going on.”
He really wanted to know what kind of girl could attract that much attention.
Shu Min was famously the campus beauty. She had plenty of suitors herself. That was why he made a bet with his friends—whoever could land the untouchable goddess first would win.
But even she had never gotten this kind of reaction.
Suddenly, a stern voice cut through the noise:
“What do you all think you’re doing? Harassing a student? Inciting a crowd? This is what passes for Jiangcheng University decorum? Unbelievable.”
The boys immediately drooped their heads.
“Professor Wen, we weren’t trying to bother Su…”
Wen Yuli’s eyes were cold, his voice low and edged with anger:
“I saw it myself. Don’t try to deny it. Disperse. Or would you rather be publicly reprimanded?”
The crowd scattered in an instant.
One boy called out softly:
“Su-jie, I’ll be back! I’m going to win you over—just wait!”
Su Ci sighed, shaking her head.
“No, you won’t. I already have a boyfriend. Please don’t do this again—you’ll find someone better.”
The admirers left reluctantly, glancing back again and again.
Wen Yuli, still wearing a frown, efficiently helped Su Ci pack up her books and supplies.
“They won’t find anyone better. My little darling is the best.”
As he shoved her textbook into her bag, something slipped out from an inner pocket—a small, reddish-brown booklet.
He instinctively touched his own jacket pocket.
Inside was another reddish-brown booklet.
Marriage certificates.
Couldn’t wait to lock me down, huh?
Of course, she couldn’t stand being away from him for even a second. If he hadn’t been here just now, with her soft and timid nature, who knows how long those idiots would’ve pestered her?
Wen Yuli pressed his lips together.
“Let’s go.”
Su Ci still couldn’t figure out his hot-and-cold behavior.
As they stepped out of the classroom, Wen Yuli—carrying her backpack—ran into another boy who was clearly late and still holding a bouquet. The card read: To Su Ci.
Wen Yuli’s face instantly darkened. His narrow eyes filled with brewing storm clouds.
The boy hadn’t even processed the situation. His eyes fell on their joined hands.
“P-Professor Wen… you and Su…?”
Wen Yuli kept a straight face.
“I’m her guardian. Any issues?”
“Ohh! I see!”
The boy’s shattered hopes were immediately revived.
“Didn’t realize you were related like that! Professor Wen—no, I mean, Father-in-Law! Please accept my respects. I’ve liked Su Ci for a long time!”
“I’m a local from Jiangcheng, family has two villas and three condos, BMI 20.3, in the eight-year MD program—real med school, not the 4+4 kind. I can swim, no siblings, no car or house loans…”
