Chapter 8 – A Suspicious Alpha
“My parents urged me to go on a blind date, so I used my work ID to add your WeChat.”
Bai Xiu Ze considerately fastened the seat belt for Chen Xun.
The distance between the two of them suddenly shortened, and the rich smell of red wine pheromones floated past Chen Xun’s nose.
“Thank you, Senior. I can do it myself.”
Chen Xun thanked Bai Xiu Ze politely, buckled his seat belt with his right hand, and asked him with a smile: “You didn’t want to go on a blind date, so you used a fake name?”
“Unfortunately.” Bai Xiu Ze shrugged helplessly and started the car. “But if I knew in advance that my blind date was you, I wouldn’t have.”
Chen Xun smiled and shook his head, “Senior, please stop joking.”
Bai Xiu Ze was Chen Xun’s senior in college. They belonged to the same club back then, had similar interests and hobbies, and were very good friends.
After graduation, Bai Xiu Ze chose to continue his studies, and Chen Xun followed Lian Xufeng to start a business. Both of them were very busy, so they lost contact.
After meeting each other again after many years, Bai Xiu Ze was still the gentle and kind man that Chen Xun remembered.
Chen Xun’s fear of meeting strangers gradually subsided.
“You are so famous now. I always hear your name when I go to seminars.”
Chen Xun raised the corners of his lips and glanced at the rearview mirror. “Weren’t you a literature major?”
“That doesn’t prevent us from talking about current affairs.” Bai Xiu Ze was in a good mood and played a lively English song. “Weiming’s energy business has expanded overseas, but we who are engaged in literature still cannot leave our small piece of land in China.”
The car was travelling on the cross-sea bridge. Chen Xun lowered the window a little bit to let the sea breeze brush through the strands of hair on his forehead.
Bai Xiu Ze took the time to glance at him.
The omega’s lips are very thin with a light pink tint, his eyes are shiny black, and his clear gaze makes everyone who communicates with him intoxicated.
When he was young, Chen Xun didn’t know about the number of people who wanted to pursue him.
Chen Xun supported his forehead with one hand, tilted his head and chuckled, “Senior, don’t be so modest. Your works have been included in university textbooks, right? I heard that tickets for your lectures have to be grabbed ahead of time. A working man like me can’t compare to that.”
“If you had continued your studies back then,” Bai Xiu Ze curled his lips and teased him in a low voice, “your achievements would have been no less than mine.”
Chen Xun waved his hand and said calmly, “It’s all in the past.”
He did think about continuing his studies, but Weiming was just starting out and Lian Xufeng’s patents alone were not enough to support a company. In order to keep Weiming going, Chen Xun gave up taking the postgraduate entrance exam and chose to travel around with Lian Xufeng.
The two acquired other patents and recruited a group of outstanding scientific researchers before they were able to build Wei Ming.
However, Chen Xun did not regret it. He could continue to study the literature he liked even if he did not pursue further studies since the days of hard work with Lian Xufeng were limited..
Bai Xiu Ze thought he had spoken too much about Chen Xun’s sad past, and apologised embarrassedly: “Sorry, I…”
“It’s fine.” Chen Xun patted Bai Xiu Ze’s shoulder, signalling him to look at the road carefully.
Bai Xiu Ze drove the car to a slightly run-down pub. The decoration of the pub looked grey, and it must have been open for some time now.
Chen Xun got out of the car and saw the sign at the door. His tone suddenly became excited: “Big Tavern A?”
“That’s right.”
Bai Xiu Ze parked the car and walked over, “I originally wanted to invite you to a western restaurant, but I think you’ll be more comfortable here.”
The wine bar in front of them is less than 500 metres away from the entrance of A University. It is the favourite wine bar students from A University. Members of the literature club often gathered there.
Chen Xun pursed his lips and put his hands behind his back. He waited until Bai Xiu Ze came to him before giving him a thumbs up, “As expected of you, Senior.”
Bai Xiu Ze raised his eyes happily and made a “please” gesture, “Then let’s go, Junior brother.”
The two of them stepped into the familiar tavern together.
The tavern has maintained the same wasteland industrial style for ten years, with cement floors, cement walls covered in graffiti, and even chairs made to look like gasoline barrels.
“Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!”
As soon as he entered the door, the cheers of young people attracted Chen Xun’s attention.
It turned out that a young couple was about to kiss each other under everyone’s encouragement.
Judging from the candles on the ground and the roses in the girl’s hands, these two people must have just confessed their love to each other.
“Young people are full of energy.”
Bai Xiu Ze and Chen Xun sat down at the bar. He ordered a glass of whiskey for himself first, and then asked Chen Xun what he wanted to drink.
“Iced Americano, please.” Chen Xun glanced at the wine on the wine cabinet, “I’ll drive later.”
Bai Xiu Ze smiled and said, “You can call a designated driver.”
“But I don’t really want to drink.” Chen Xun still declined Bai Xiu Ze’s invitation.
For some reason, he felt a little uncomfortable when he smelled the alcohol.
Maybe it’s because he hasn’t drank for too long.
Chen Xun held his chin with one hand and took a sip of Iced Americano, which surprisingly tasted a bit bitter.
“Boss, have you changed the coffee beans?”
“No, we are a small business and we have always used the same coffee beans.”
The bartender is the owner of the tavern. Today, he has changed from a handsome punk youth to a middle-aged uncle with a strong uncle style.
Bai Xiu Ze looked at the coffee in Chen Xun’s hand and explained with a smile: “Maybe the beans you drank before were too good, and now you are not used to drinking coffee made from ordinary beans.”
Chen Xun secretly glanced at his boss’s sullen face and winked at Bai Xiu Ze awkwardly, “Let’s go sit by the window for a while.”
“OK.”
Next to the pub was the long slope that University A students used to enter and leave the campus.
It was just after class, and many students were walking down the long slope, holding books and chatting, and the youthful atmosphere was overwhelming.
After drinking the strong liquor, Bai Xiu Ze felt a little melancholy: “I used to think that this slope was too long and too steep, but now it seems that it is just a short section.”
“Yeah.” Chen Xun touched the edge of the cold glass with one hand, and a smile inexplicably spread across his face.
When he first entered school, Lian Xufeng thought the slope was too long, and he didn’t want to be taken up by the family car, so he angrily carried two people’s luggage by himself. He wanted to help, but was directly rejected by Lian Xufeng.
As a result, when they arrived at the school gate, they found out that when school started, the “little white cars” on campus could be driven out. Lian Xufeng was furious, but he still said stubbornly –
“I just want to exercise. Look how rude they are. They will definitely break your box.”
Chen Xun stared at the students walking outside the window in a trance, and Bai Xiu Ze just looked at him quietly.
“Chen Xun, to be honest, I really didn’t expect you to go on a blind date.”
Hearing this, Chen Xun turned his head and looked directly into Bai Xiu Ze’s eyes.
But when he looked at Bai Xiu Ze, suddenly, Chen Xun’s sight was attracted by a man sitting in a booth behind Bai Xiu Ze.
The man was wearing a black baseball cap, a large blue medical mask on his face, and a poorly fitting leather top. He looked like a “suspicious person.”
Chen Xun recognized the other person almost at first sight, and broke out in cold sweat out of embarrassment. He tried his best to control himself and focus his attention on Bai Xiu Ze.
Bai Xiu Ze obviously didn’t know about the appearance of the “suspicious person” behind him. He clasped his hands together and looked into Chen Xun’s eyes sincerely, “In fact, I fell in love with you during our college days.”
‘What on earth is Lian Xufeng doing here?’
‘Is he crazy?’
‘He’s still pretending. Doesn’t he know that this will only attract more attention?’
Chen Xun’s mind was in turmoil. Even though he wanted to respect Bai Xiu Ze, he was still shocked by Lian Xufeng’s outrageous behaviour of suddenly showing up in the pub.
“Alas.” Chen Xun held his forehead helplessly.
Bai Xiu Ze was startled, then slowly reached out and held Chen Xun’s wrist, “Are you okay?”
“Ping! Pong!”
“Crackle!”
Shattered glass splashed from the back table to Chen Xun’s feet.
He moved his feet and watched the boss yell “My antique glass cup!” and rush to the booth at the back. Then the “suspicious person” stood up in a panic to apologise, but he was too tall and jumped up so fast that he scared the boss so much that he fell down…
Chen Xun silently turned towards the floor-to-ceiling window, trying not to give any glances to that booth.
Bai Xiu Ze finally noticed the booth at the back. The alpha’s disguise was so poor that his true identity could be seen at a glance.
Bai Xiu Ze couldn’t help but smile bitterly, “You two are still inseparable.”
“He’s always like this.” Chen Xun took a deep breath and looked at Lian Xufeng with lingering eyes. Even he himself did not notice the deep affection in those eyes.
Bai Xiu Ze was a little annoyed when he was interrupted by Lian Xufeng halfway through his confession.
For Bai Xiu Ze, Lian Xufeng has been Chen Xun’s follower since college.
It was obvious that Chen Xun was the one who was interested in literature, but Lian Xufeng insisted on joining the literature club. He didn’t understand the charm of literature at all, but he still brought books to Chen Xun for advice every day. He even asked Chen Xun to submit articles and have meals together, and Lian Xufeng always wanted to get involved. He was like a piece of chewing gum that couldn’t be shaken off.
How could an Alpha like that be worthy of Chen Xun, except for having a little bit of money?
Thinking about it, Bai Xiu Ze took a sip of his whiskey and asked with a bit of hostility: “You have been childhood sweethearts for so many years, why don’t you two get married?”
Chen Xun was shocked by Bai Xiu Ze’s words. He didn’t expect that his secret love was so obvious, so obvious that even his senior of four years in college noticed his love.
Chen Xun could have found some excuses to avoid this provocative question.
But he didn’t want to go against his heart.
The bitterness of the iced Americano seemed to flow through his blood into his heart.
Chen Xun raised his head, maintaining his composure, “Our matching degree is only one percent.”
“Impossible.”
Ever since Chen Xun and Lian Xufeng separated at the age of eighteen, he knew that there was no possibility for him and Lian Xufeng to be together.
Bai Xiu Ze was shocked by Chen Xun’s frankness.
He felt ashamed of his recklessness and hostility. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have asked you this.”
“Does it matter? It’s the truth anyways.”
Chen Xun smiled gently, and his heart softened when he mentioned Lian Xufeng.
Even though Lian Xufeng never noticed his infatuated love, he was still the softest part of his heart.
The chaos behind Bai Ziu Ze isn’t over yet.
Lian Xufeng had no choice but to tear off his mask, take off his ill-fitting leather jacket and wipe it clean.
But he still couldn’t help but look in the direction of Chen Xun. Lian Xufeng swore that as long as that person dared to offend Chen Xun, his fist would definitely break that person’s nose.
“When you give up completely, come find me.” Bai Xiu Ze stood up and politely declined Chen Xun’s offer to drive for him.
“Someone will take you back, so I won’t be a light bulb anymore.”
Seeing the two men disappear at the door of the tavern, Lian Xufeng tried to follow them in panic, but was stopped by the owner.
“Hey! You haven’t paid the money yet!”
“Here you go.” Lian Xufeng decisively took out the black card and threw it to the boss.
But the boss had never seen such a card before, and he held Lian Xufeng tightly and refused to let go. “Does this card have a password? Could it be fake?”
“Don’t you understand?” Lian Xufeng’s veins bulged, “The card has no password, so you can swipe it at will.”
They both looked towards the door.
The Omega who had just left came back and leaned against the door with his arms folded.
