Chapter 6: Leisure Time, Midnight Fright
After a while, Hong Shan slowly said, “I watched him turn right in front of me, you know!?”
“I had to end it myself. I didn’t want him to become a mindless monster!”
Tears welled up in Hong Shan’s eyes as he spoke.
Liang Yu patted his shoulder and said, “Don’t cry. It’s already happened, and you did well. At least you spared him more pain!”
Hong Shan nodded, wiping away his tears.
He glanced at Lai Qingxue and asked, “Old Liang, how did the campus belle end up with you!?”
Lai Qingxue paused her typing, turned to Hong Shan, and said, “I was hiding in the cafeteria’s cold storage room, and Liang Yu saved me!”
Hearing this, Hong Shan looked at Liang Yu in shock.
He knew what kind of person Liang Yu was—a homebody who didn’t exercise and spent weekends gaming in the dorm. How could he have gotten through the cafeteria’s zombie horde?
Hong Shan had escaped from the cafeteria himself and knew there were at least a hundred zombies inside.
Liang Yu chuckled, “What!? You don’t believe me!?”
“I’ve been working out lately, and I’ve played plenty of zombie games. I’ve got experience dealing with zombies!”
Liang Yu casually made up an excuse, and Hong Shan thought it made sense.
Hong Shan then asked, “Old Liang, what are you planning to do next!?”
Liang Yu patted Hong Shan’s butt, motioning for him to move, then sat on the other side of the sofa, leaning back lazily.
Looking at the ceiling, Liang Yu said, “Game experience, gather resources, slaughter zombies.”
“Haha!?”
Liang Yu continued, “What!? You got a problem!?”
Hong Shan shook his head.
“What about you!?”
“I’ll stick with you for now, then head home to check on my parents. Last I heard, they’re in a shelter in Xijiang City!”
Liang Yu nodded.
“I need to make a trip to Kyoto; my family is there!”
At this point, Lai Qingxue chimed in, “Liang Yu, can I come with you!?”
Liang Yu and Hong Shan both looked at her.
Lai Qingxue continued, “My home is in Jiangning, which is close to Kyoto!”
Liang Yu shrugged, “No problem. Once we gather some food, we can go!”
“Liang Yu, it’s great to have you around!”
Hong Shan looked at Liang Yu and mimicked in a high-pitched voice, “Liang Yu, it’s great to have you around!”
Liang Yu quickly punched Hong Shan and pushed him away.
“You pervert, don’t talk to me like that!”
Lai Qingxue laughed along with them.
For a moment, the security room was filled with laughter.
In the apocalypse, such leisure time was rare. Before long, Lai Qingxue fell asleep on the bed in the security room.
Hong Shan and Liang Yu took turns keeping watch, with Liang Yu on the first shift and Hong Shan on the second.
Hong Shan, a living person, could break down the security room door, let alone the zombies. If they all slept at night, a B-level zombie could finish them off.
Liang Yu read his novel, keeping an eye on the situation outside. As night fell, the zombies became more active, howling outside.
Some zombies moved to the security room window, and Liang Yu dispatched them with his cleaver.
This continued until the second half of the night when Liang Yu woke Hong Shan and then lay down on the sofa to sleep.
Hong Shan played games while keeping watch.
As midnight approached, the moonlight shone on the zombies’ faces, revealing countless grotesque visages. The zombies’ mouths were split to their ears, looking terrifying.
If Lai Qingxue saw this, it would likely be another round of screams and attacks.
Unknowingly, Hong Shan fell asleep.
A zombie, wearing a security uniform, staggered into the dormitory, its hollow eyes scanning the surroundings with confusion.
The hallway lights flickered as the zombie lunged at the security room door, breaking it open with a single hit.
Meanwhile, Hong Shan slept like a log, oblivious to the noise outside.
The security zombie saw the sleeping Hong Shan and pounced on him without hesitation.
Fortunately, Liang Yu wasn’t in a deep sleep. He woke up the moment the zombie broke in and was startled to see a B-level zombie.
This was his first time encountering one, but now wasn’t the time for shock. Liang Yu grabbed the nearby cleaver, seized the opportunity, and killed it with one blow.
Zombie blood sprayed out, hitting Hong Shan directly in the face, waking him up.
Opening his eyes, he saw a headless zombie lying at his feet. Hong Shan backed away, falling to the ground with his chair.
The zombie’s entrance and Hong Shan’s fall made a loud noise, waking Lai Qingxue.
She screamed at the sight.
Liang Yu quickly stepped over, covering Lai Qingxue’s mouth, signaling her to stay quiet.
But despite Liang Yu’s quick actions, the zombies outside were more sensitive to sound than he anticipated.
Hearing the noise, the zombies rushed towards the security room, giving Liang Yu a headache.
Just when they could rest, an accident happened.
Hong Shan quickly got up, and Liang Yu pulled Lai Qingxue to run, with Hong Shan following closely behind.
Liang Yu led them upstairs, without a specific destination in mind.
Reaching the top floor, the three entered Liang Yu’s dorm, and Hong Shan quickly closed the door, pushing a bed frame against it.
Inside, Lai Qingxue hid on the balcony, while Liang Yu and Hong Shan each held a cleaver, guarding the door.
They were drenched in cold sweat, clearly shaken by the earlier events!
Liang Yu nudged Hong Shan and said, “Hong Shan, what happened!? A zombie broke in, and you didn’t hear that!?”
Hong Shan scratched his head, embarrassed, “Sorry, I fell asleep!”
“You really are useless!”
Lai Qingxue, now calm, approached Liang Yu and said, “Liang Yu, don’t blame Hong Shan. Everyone dozes off sometimes!”
Liang Yu glanced at Lai Qingxue and said nothing more.
Arguing now was pointless. Hearing no noise outside, Liang Yu took a deep breath and sat on a chair.
Lai Qingxue looked around the dorm, curiously asking, “Is this your dorm!?”
Hong Shan quickly gathered his underwear from the bed, embarrassed, “Yes, this is our dorm. Feel free to sit, campus belle!”
Liang Yu chuckled, sitting in his usual spot.
He turned on his computer and said to Lai Qingxue, “Don’t mind them. They leave clothes everywhere and don’t shower for days!”
Lai Qingxue laughed, “What!? You’re not like that!?”
Liang Yu opened a single-player zombie game, put on his headphones, and said, “I may be a homebody, but I like to stay clean!”
“Alright, go lie on my bed for a bit. You probably didn’t sleep well!”
