Chapter 168: A Close Brush with Death
The torrential rain poured down, the sound of it hitting the glass windows like the rhythm of some kind of music.
The outside moisture seeped through the shattered windows, filling everyone’s nostrils with a slightly unusual scent.
Perhaps astonished by the recent dangerous situation, the entire bus fell silent, not a single sound to be heard.
Everyone was still immersed in the near-death experience.
Fang Zhou, however, remained standing by the driver’s side, observing the surroundings.
“Be careful on this road. If there’s an emergency, stop the bus immediately.”
Sweat dripped down the sides of the driver’s forehead, and the back of his shirt was soaked through.
The situation just now was incredibly dangerous. If it hadn’t been for this young man telling him to drive, the entire bus would have been buried here.
So close, so close.
“We can’t stay here. The longer we wait, the more dangerous it becomes. Let’s go quickly!”
The director finally reacted, running to the front of the bus and urging the driver to speed up.
The others seemed to be awakened from a pause by the director’s actions, and they began to speak.
“Damn! We almost died just now!”
“Oh my god, we just brushed past death. This really feels like a scene from a movie. No way, I need to tweet about this… wait, damn it, no signal!”
“How much longer until we can get out of here? It’s really dangerous!”
Before anyone had a chance to thank Fang Zhou, the driver suddenly slammed on the brakes, almost throwing everyone off again!
“What’s going on?”
Before they could blame the driver, everyone looked ahead and let out sharp screams.
“Ahhhhh!!”
About 10 meters ahead, the mountain suddenly collapsed, blocking the bus’s path.
The massive sound echoed in the valley, just like the hearts of the people, suspended and unable to settle.
In front of them, a white car was almost buried, its front half already covered.
A middle-aged man stumbled out of the car, crawling and running in terror.
“Reverse the bus!”
Fang Zhou made a decisive call, directing the driver to reverse about 20 meters to ensure the landslide wouldn’t affect the bus.
Then he quickly opened the bus door and ran out to support the man.
“Uncle, are you alright?”
Seeing someone come to help him, the man spoke with a trembling voice.
“I-I’m fine, don’t worry about me, go, go save…”
“Is there anyone else in the car?”
Fang Zhou asked.
He feared there might be more people in the white car, still trapped and their fate unknown.
“My wife is still in the car!”
The man’s arm was injured. Fang Zhou helped him onto the bus, asking the doctor to bandage him.
Then he grabbed a small shovel and helmet from the bus’s toolbox, preparing to go back down.
“What are you doing?”
Someone grabbed his arm. It was Zhang Zhiyin.
“There are still people in that car. I’m going to see if I can rescue them.”
“It’s too dangerous.”
Zhang Zhiyin didn’t agree with his decision.
Their conversation attracted the attention of others. Qin Yun and Qiao Sisi both stood up and spoke, “Wait for the police. How can you dig them out by yourself?”
Han Xi didn’t speak, but her eyes were fixed on him, showing a trace of worry.
Chu Xinran rushed over, hugging Fang Zhou’s arm tightly, refusing to let him go.
“No, you can’t go down, it’s too dangerous!”
Several landslides had just occurred nearby, and another collapse could happen at any moment.
Fang Zhou, a mere human, wanted to fight against nature—it was like a hell-level difficulty.
The director’s team also didn’t agree with him going, and they began to persuade Fang Zhou.
“We’ve already called the police. They should be here soon.”
Seeing everyone trying to stop Fang Zhou, the man, now being bandaged, cried out.
“My wife is still in there! Please, save her!”
Everyone fell silent. No one was willing to risk their lives at such a critical moment, even though their conscience told them not to leave someone to die.
But compared to their own safety, they couldn’t be blamed.
“It’s okay, I have a helmet. Don’t worry about me.” (TLN : HAHAHAHA FANG ZHOU, DID U REALLY THOUGHT A HELMET CAN HELP YOU WITH LANDSLIDE HAHAHA)
Fang Zhou pushed Chu Xinran’s hand away and quickly got off the bus.
In the eyes of everyone on the bus, the man in white walked briskly towards the landslide site.
His destination was the half-buried car.
“No way! Doing good deeds without me?”
Liu Hao quickly followed.
“Hey, if we’re playing heroes, count me in!”
“And me!”
“I’m going too!”
More and more men got off the bus, joining the rescue effort.
They followed Fang Zhou fearlessly, like heroes in a disaster movie who never looked back at explosions.
Fang Zhou reached the side of the car and peeked inside. The back seat was empty; the man’s wife must be in the front passenger seat.
He looked inside and saw a piece of red clothing.
Together, they started moving the rocks they could manage, eventually pulling the woman out.
The woman’s head and body were covered in blood, and she was completely unconscious, severely injured.
“Let’s get her on the bus!”
Back on the bus, the man cried tearfully, thanking everyone.
Exhausted, Fang Zhou slumped into the first seat, glancing at Qin Yun, wondering why she hadn’t moved yet.
Qin Yun was still angry that Fang Zhou had gone down without listening to anyone’s advice. Why was someone else’s life so important? Was it more important than his own?
On such a dangerous road, he wouldn’t let others get off, but he rushed down himself.
If a rock had hit Fang Zhou’s head, he would’ve become a corpse!
A disobedient man like him really needed to be chained up to stop him from running around and making her worry.
Fang Zhou didn’t know that his rescue attempt had accelerated Qin Yun’s descent into darkness.
He turned and shouted, “Qin Yun! Can you come over and help?”
Among the people on the bus, there were only two doctors, one still bandaging the man. Only Qin Yun had the capability.
The elegant lady indeed walked over, crouching beside Fang Zhou.
But her first action wasn’t to check the patient’s wounds; she handed Fang Zhou a tissue.
“Wipe your sweat.”
Don’t look so disheveled, or I won’t be able to control myself.
Control myself from breaking your legs, chaining you up, and locking you in a room, away from the dangerous outside world.
The outside is too dangerous; only by my side is safe.
(Feverish, coding through illness, isn’t this worth a bit of love-powered motivation?)
Qin Yun looked at Fang Zhou, her eyes darkening with a twisted resolve, her thoughts spiraling into possessive madness.
