Chapter 2: The First Mission
Three days later, Jiang Zhixu pushed her wheelchair around the hospital.
“Aren’t you saying there’s a ghost? Where is it?” She peeked around cautiously, like a thief.
The adorable little red panda perched on Jiang Zhixu’s shoulder, extending its short paws, “It’s right in front.”
“Just around the corner.”
As they turned the corner, Jiang Zhixu froze, “Morgue?”
Isn’t this the hospital’s mortuary?
“You’re saying the ghost is inside?”
The little red panda nodded, “Yes, it’s inside.”
“Host, let’s go and show the ghost our prowess.”
Jiang Zhixu chuckled awkwardly, “I think it’s going to show me its prowess instead.”
She was just an apprentice who had only studied for three days, couldn’t even draw talisman papers, and didn’t recognize all the ghosts. Sending her to catch ghosts was laughable.
The little red panda patted its chest, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect the host.”
Jiang Zhixu looked at the red panda and sighed, “Alright, you protect me.”
Since she had already agreed, she couldn’t back out now.
Besides, 3 million was right in front of her, she’d grab it even if it meant breaking her leg or arm!
Jiang Zhixu mustered her courage and pushed her wheelchair into the morgue, shivering as the cold air hit her.
She carefully glanced around but didn’t see anything.
“Little Eight, where’s the ghost you mentioned?”
Why couldn’t she see anything? Was she blind, or had the ghost escaped?
688 exclaimed, “Oh no, I forgot to open your yin and yang eyes!”
Jiang Zhixu: …
She gritted her teeth, “Can’t you be more reliable?!”
Telling her at the last minute that she didn’t have the ability to see ghosts. She might die without even knowing how.
“My bad, my bad, it’ll be fine in a sec.” The little red panda hurriedly gave her the ability to see ghosts.
“It might hurt a bit, host, bear with it.”
Jiang Zhixu felt a stinging pain in her eyes and couldn’t help but close them for a moment. When she opened them again, she saw a deathly pale face staring at her.
“Ahhh!! Ghost!!”
Slap!
Jiang Zhixu was so scared that she slapped the male ghost’s face, sending him flying into the wall with a thud, and then slowly falling to the ground.
The little red panda, “Wah wah wah… Host, you’re so awesome! You slapped the ghost away with one palm.”
“I knew you could do it.”
It was celebrating, but little did it know that it would be choked by the host in the next second.
“You know what, that’s really scary. I shouldn’t have agreed to this.” Jiang Zhixu was furious, shaking 688.
She almost lost her soul.
688: “Host… I… I’m sorry…”
“Let go… I’m dying…”
It wasn’t the ghost that was going to kill it, but the host.
After Jiang Zhixu calmed down, she let go of 688’s throat. “What do we do now?”
This was her first mission, and she didn’t know what the next steps were or if this ghost was the one 688 was looking for.
688 rubbed its neck, “It’s not a ghost from the Hundred Ghosts Map. Host, you just need to resolve its obsession and let it willingly go to the underworld.”
Jiang Zhixu, “So, will I get paid for this?”
If the ghost wasn’t from the Hundred Ghosts Map, would she still get paid if she helped it?
Why should she bother?
What if she didn’t get paid and lost her life?
That wouldn’t be worth it.
Money or life, she’d rather have one of them.
688: “Let me check.”
A few seconds later, “Yes, host, you’ll get paid, but not much.”
Jiang Zhixu. “Not much, how much is that?”
688: “About 500,000.”
About?
500,000?
Jiang Zhixu’s eyes widened, and she didn’t know what to say.
Maybe before, she wouldn’t have thought 500,000 was a lot, but after staying in the hospital for a few days, seeing some families who couldn’t even come up with 100,000, having to scrape together money for surgery, and taking out high-interest loans… she realized that 500,000 was a lot, enough to weigh down a person’s shoulders and crush a happy family.
“I understand.” Jiang Zhixu breathed out, turning her head to look at the male ghost who had gotten up from the ground.
Summoning her courage, she stepped forward, “Sir, are you okay? I was startled earlier, did I hurt you anywhere?”
She didn’t know the ghost’s temperament, so she tried to be gentle.
The male ghost’s slow movements suddenly stopped, and he looked up at Jiang Zhixu, “You can see me?”
Seeing the shock in his eyes, Jiang Zhixu nodded, “Yes.”
“Do you have any problems or need my help with anything?”
688 said she needed to resolve the ghost’s obsession, so she had to figure out what it was.
Treating the symptoms, she wouldn’t go for it.
The male ghost’s slow movements suddenly stopped, and he looked up at Jiang Zhixu, “I’ve been here for three days, and finally, someone can see me.”
Ghosts didn’t have tears, but the male ghost wailed for a while, exhausting himself.
Jiang Zhixu: numb.
“Stop wailing!” Jiang Zhixu couldn’t help but shout, “The most important thing now is to solve the problem. You don’t want to stay here forever, do you?”
“Yes, yes, you’re right.” The male ghost’s brain caught up, and he wiped his face, “My name is Mu Hua, I’m a delivery guy. Two days ago, I died from exhaustion after working overtime and staying up late.”
“My boss was afraid of taking responsibility, so he abandoned me here at the hospital.”
“The hospital couldn’t contact my family, so they left me here, saying that if they couldn’t find my family within a month, they would send me to the crematorium to be incinerated.”
Jiang Zhixu got angry after hearing this, “Your boss just ran away? The hospital didn’t even call the police?”
What kind of people were these? What kind of hospital was this?
Mu Hua wiped his “tears”:
“It’s all about capitalism, who cares about your life?
Not making trouble is the real deal.”
“Miss, I don’t have any other wishes, I just want to see my wife again.”
“She always complained that I was useless, but now that I’m dead, I don’t know if she’ll… I just want to see her one more time.”
Jiang Zhixu’s heart was complex as she reached out and patted his shoulder, “Don’t worry, I’ll definitely help you.”
“You just wait here for a bit, I’ll go contact your family and make sure the law gives you justice.”
“With compensation, your family will be better off too.”
“Thank you, thank you.” Mu Hua was extremely moved, even kneeling down to kowtow to Jiang Zhixu.
Jiang Zhixu couldn’t dodge due to her limited mobility, so she let him.
Leaving the morgue, Jiang Zhixu returned to her hospital room and saw Jiang Zhiyu standing by the window.
“Se-second brother.” She had gotten familiar with Jiang Zhiyu over the past few days and could now call him that.
Jiang Zhiyu, wearing a white lab coat, turned around and saw Jiang Zhixu’s pale face. He couldn’t help but frown and walk over to her, “Why is your face so pale? And your hands are so cold. Where did you go?”
Jiang Zhixu smiled, “I didn’t like the hospital room, so I went to the corridor window to get some fresh air and look at the night view.”
“Second brother, I’m fine, don’t worry.”
Jiang Zhiyu ruffled her hair, “It’s getting late, you should rest.”
“You should too, second brother.” Jiang Zhixu obediently replied.
Jiang Zhiyu’s lips curled up into a pleasant smile as he leaned down to pick up Jiang Zhixu and put her on the bed, “Rest well, I’ll be going.”
“Goodnight.” Jiang Zhixu whispered, feeling a sense of comfort in her second brother’s care.

“Hello, who is this?”
The other end of the line had a gentle female voice.
Jiang Zhixu spoke slowly, “Hello, Ms. Ye. I’m calling from the Third Hospital in Beijing. Your husband, Mu Hua, unfortunately passed away two days ago. He’s currently at our hospital…”
