Chapter 21 – ‘Goodbye, brother.’
Pei Chuan didn’t show it on his face, but his heart was already in a mess.
Even when took out his phone and entered the password, his hands were shaking and he even made a mistake.
As soon as he unlocked his phone, the first thing he saw was Sheng Yang’s message.
Sheng Yang’s profile picture is a little Samoyed smiling with its head tilted.
Little Spy: [Ge, I’m leaving now. You don’t need to look for me anymore. I’ve troubled you a lot during this time. I’ve already transferred the money to you. I’m sorry.]
This incoherent sentence left Pei Chuan confused.
Was he kind to him during this period?
What had happened that made Sheng Yang suddenly want to leave?
Pei Chuan looked at the transfer Sheng Yang made to him and realized that this guy had transferred almost all of his belongings to him.
He transferred the money back many times over.
After finishing, he absentmindedly threw his phone aside, leaned his head against the wall, and wondered where the variables might appear.
Pei Chuan tried hard to recall what had gone wrong with Sheng Yang these days. He was fine the night before and happily celebrated his birthday.
‘Only last night…last night he was very strange.’
Sheng Yang didn’t even reply to the message and went to bed abnormally early.
Pei Chuan immediately returned to the study and turned on the surveillance camera with a sullen face.

When he finished watching the surveillance video, his face turned dark.
Pei Chuan opened his phone as quickly as possible and called Sheng Yang.

Sheng Yang was walking aimlessly on the road, dragging his suitcase. He finally stopped at a place and squatted down.
He was now truly an orphan with no home to return to. As Sheng Yang lowered his eyes, pondering what to do at night, a familiar voice rang in his ears: “Isn’t this my little darling? Why are you staying here alone?”
Sheng Yang turned his head suddenly and saw He Jingnian looking at him with a smile on his face.
Sheng Yang couldn’t help but feel nauseous. He said in a bad tone, “None of your business.”
He Jingnian would not be angry because of his attitude. He just thought Sheng Yang was very funny. Even when he got angry, he was like a toothless wolf cub and had no deterrent effect at all.
He bent down slightly, just in time to see the bite marks and red marks on the boy’s fair collarbone.
Sheng Yang also quickly grabbed his collar.
He Jingnian’s eyes flashed with excitement: “It turns out that the little cub has been eaten up completely.”
He said slowly: “Pei Chuan is not a good person either.”
Sheng Yang didn’t allow anyone to say anything bad about Pei Chuan, and He Jingnian had no right to say anything.
He now felt nauseous when he saw He Jingnian’s pale face.
But there was no point in talking to He Jingnian any more, so he stood up and was about to leave, but He Jingnian gently stopped him: “Wait.”
Sheng Yang’s pace became faster.
He Jingnian said calmly, “Aren’t you curious about what will happen after you leave?”
Sheng Yang’s footsteps did not stop.
He Jingnian’s eyes darkened. He liked people with individuality, but he didn’t like such a disobedient little thing.
Fortunately, he didn’t move forward. He just stood there and uttered two words in a low voice: “Pei Chuan.”
Sheng Yang stopped in his tracks, threw down his suitcase, and grabbed He Jingnian’s tie tightly, his face rarely showing such ruthlessness: “What do you want to do?”
The Alpha’s powerful pheromones suddenly erupted at this moment, which even slightly higher-level Omegas could not withstand, but He Jingnian seemed completely unaffected. He even took a deep breath and sighed contentedly, “Your pheromones smell so good.”
Sheng Yang loosened his grip as if he had touched something dirty, and asked fiercely, “What do you want to do to him?”
He Jingnian slowly straightened his clothes, tilted his head to adjust his cufflinks, and said in an emotionless tone, “You really do care about him.”
He slowly raised his eyes and looked at Sheng Yang: “I can tolerate you getting close to him, but Sheng Yang,” he said, raising his hand to pat Sheng Yang’s face, his tone dangerous, “you better give me a limit, and don’t forget whose person you are.”
Sheng Yang gritted his teeth, wanting to punch He Jingnian, but He Jingnian caught his fist steadily.
He raised his other hand and pinched Sheng Yang’s fair and soft cheeks, his voice flat: “Can’t you learn to be obedient?”
He Jingnian’s eyes slid from Sheng Yang’s cheek to the collarbone that was slightly exposed due to the strenuous exercise, and he chuckled ambiguously: “Sheng Yang, if you get close to him again, don’t blame me for being ruthless to him. Who told me to not bear anyone else touching you?”
Sheng Yang was disgusted by He Jingnian’s feigned affection. He frowned, slapped He Jingnian’s hand away, and said coldly, “I am not your possession. The engagement is just wishful thinking on your part and theirs. It has nothing to do with me.”
With that, Sheng Yang turned and left, dragging his suitcase.
He Jingnian stood there, watching him walk away with great interest.
Sheng Yang walked for an unknown amount of time before stopping, and then, exhausted, leaned against the wall and slowly sat down on the ground.
He understood He Jingnian’s warning. He guessed that He Jingnian was behind Pei Chuan’s company’s recent troubles. He didn’t have anything to offer Pei Chuan anyway, so he couldn’t cause him any more trouble.
Despite thinking this way, Sheng Yang still couldn’t help but think of Pei Chuan.
At this time of day, he would usually be at home eating with Pei Chuan or simply sitting together reading and working. But now… He looked at the suitcase beside him and the unfamiliar alleyway, feeling like a homeless dog.
It was at this moment that Pei Chuan called.
Sheng Yang stared at the screen for a long time before finally steeling himself and hanging up.
But Pei Chuan persisted and made a second call. Sheng Yang’s actions had exhausted him, and he no longer had the courage to hang up on Pei Chuan.
Sheng Yang, this is the last time.
He said this to himself as he swiped to answer the call.
Where is he?
Pei Chuan’s voice remained calm as always, as if he hadn’t seen the text message at all.
But Sheng Yang knew that was impossible.
Upon hearing Pei Chuan’s voice again, Sheng Yang felt a lump in his throat, and tears streamed down his face involuntarily.
Pei Chuan heard the barely audible sobs of the young man on the other end of the phone. His heart was in turmoil, and his tone unconsciously became more forceful: “Speak, Sheng Yang.”
Sheng Yang tried hard to control his voice: “I’m going to start school soon, brother, so I’ll be going now.”
He’s terrible at lying; his stories make no sense at all.
Pei Chuan didn’t believe his story at all and bluntly exposed him: “There are still 10 days until your school starts.”
Sheng Yang gritted his teeth and continued, “I…”
”Sheng Yang,” Pei Chuan sighed, “Where exactly are you?”
Sheng Yang’s tears fell heavily to the ground like a burst dam.
He said, “I just wanted to get to school early to pack my things.”
Probably only he himself believed his own lies.
Pei Chuan rubbed his tired brow. He wouldn’t bother explaining to anyone else, but since the person was the somewhat dim-witted Sheng Yang, he patiently said, “Sheng Yang, listen carefully. I’ll only say this once. I don’t know Sheng Tianci, so we won’t get engaged, not now and not ever.”
He remained silent for a moment after he finished speaking, and even Pei Chuan didn’t know why he had to explain so much to Sheng Yang.
Sheng Yang shook his head. Afraid that he wouldn’t be able to continue, he quickened his pace: “I’m sorry, brother. I was immature before. I’ve realized that I don’t actually like you that much. Let’s not contact each other anymore. I’m sorry.”
He was sobbing uncontrollably by the end of his call and hurriedly hung up.
Pei Chuan looked at the phone after it was disconnected.
He didn’t believe a single punctuation mark in Sheng Yang’s words.
Perhaps due to prolonged mental tension, Pei Chuan felt dizzy when he stood up. He tried to calm himself down and called Gu Nan: “Find out Sheng Yang’s whereabouts, and be quick.”
Meanwhile, Sheng Yang had already bought a train ticket to Nanjing.
He didn’t plan to stay in City A anymore. Staying here would only cause trouble for Pei Chuan, and he would constantly think about his unknown engagement.
At the same time, it suddenly started to rain.
Sheng Yang slowly walked alone on the train to City A, dragging his suitcase. Just as the train was about to board, he turned back and took one last deep look at the entire waiting hall.
He has lived here for eighteen years, and now, for the first time, he is leaving his homeland to start a new life.
This should have been something Sheng Yang was happy about, but when the time actually came, he couldn’t feel happy at all.
He used to be carefree, always alone.
But now that Pei Chuan is back, he can’t let go so easily.
However, Sheng Yang knew very well that after tonight’s conversation, there was no possibility left between them.
The train began boarding, and Sheng Yang, dragging his suitcase, slowly stepped onto the platform.
‘Goodbye, brother.’
‘I’m so sorry.’

The train smelled awful and was noisy, filled with the aroma of instant noodles, the stench of feet, the cries of children, and the loud voices of men answering their phones.
Sheng Yang frowned deeply, curled up, and leaned his head against the window, watching the changing scenery outside.
His nose stung with tears, and he suddenly missed Pei Chuan again.
He longed for Pei Chuan’s warmth, and craved his touch.
But none of these things will belong to him anymore.
Perhaps another Omega will replace him, or perhaps a Beta.
Sheng Yang fell asleep feeling unwell. When he woke up, he looked at the people sitting all over the road, then looked away and continued to stare blankly out the window.
Twenty hours later, Sheng Yang finally got off the train, his legs weak. The train station was newly renovated, and Sheng Yang pulled his suitcase around, looking at the surrounding scenery.
As expected, this is the city where he will live alone for the next four years, or even longer.
Sheng Yang clutched his aching stomach and dragged his suitcase to the hotel he had booked in advance.
After taking a quick shower, he slept soundly in the hotel, completely unaware of how many missed calls he had on his phone.
He woke up the next morning.
Sheng Yang found himself becoming increasingly sleepy.
He pursed his lips, turned on his phone, and there were no calls.
Besides a deep sense of loss, Sheng Yang also seemed to understand, as if he had foreseen this situation.
His departure seemed to have no effect on Pei Chuan.
Sheng Yang should have realized this a long time ago. The fact that he and Pei Chuan were able to develop to where they are today is entirely due to his own unwavering persistence. Perhaps Pei Chuan has feelings for him, but not enough to warrant making several phone calls after his departure.
Sheng Yang knew he was being unreasonable. He was the one who wanted to leave, and even told Pei Chuan that he didn’t like him. Now, he was the only one feeling lost and alone.
Sheng Yang curled up alone, his pillow slowly becoming wet with tears.
He knew that his relationship with Pei Chuan was completely over.
