- Chapter 224 - Simulation, Helping Forte Kill Keyman? (2/4)
Ciel raised her hand and took out a silver coin—it was a one-shilling coin.
“Heads or tails.” Ciel looked at the gravedigger and said.
“Ah?” The gravedigger was stunned.
“Heads, tails?” Ciel repeated the question.
“Tails… tails…”
The gravedigger then called it. He only prayed in his heart that the girl before him would leave quickly.
Ciel gently tossed the silver coin into the air. Then she caught it with her hand. She opened her hand, and the tail side of the coin was facing the sky.
“Congratulations, you won.”
Ciel directly pulled out a 50-pound banknote and handed it to him. “This is your prize.”
The gravedigger looked at the silver coin before him, his mouth slightly agape. He instinctively reached out to take it, but then he was afraid this was some kind of trick… This amount of money was simply too much, and it had come too easily.
Just then, both the gravedigger and Ciel almost simultaneously heard footsteps coming from the park. The gravedigger gritted his teeth, directly reached out and took the banknote Ciel handed him. He retreated to the side and said softly, “His Excellency the Duke is coming out. Please leave quickly, Your Excellency…”
Duke?
Charles Roswell? Avena’s father?
Another troublesome person… It’s better to avoid him at this sensitive time.
But just as Ciel was about to turn and leave, the Duke’s figure also emerged from around the corner of the green wall. Their eyes met unintentionally.
Fortunately, the gravedigger had already stuffed the banknote into his pocket.
Deton’s silver chip?
Charles’s face was tense. He only glanced at Ciel’s mask, but upon looking into the girl’s eyes, a strange palpitation surged in his heart.
This was not normal.
There was nothing about an ordinary-looking person that would cause a Tier 4 transcendent to feel this way. This was counter-intuitive.
Charles, who had originally planned to walk to the carriage beside him, stopped. He quickly scrutinized the girl before him.
Red hair… young age… slightly taller than his daughter… her identity with the Deton Group.
Is this the person who came to the city with Avena?
At this moment, Seraphim, who was accompanying Charles, also noticed Ciel standing at the entrance.
“It’s you?”
Unlike Charles, Seraphim confirmed Ciel’s identity the moment she saw Ciel’s red hair.
“Your Excellency the Duke, she is the person I mentioned earlier, the one who is with the Young Mistress,”
Seraphim took two steps forward and said in Charles’s ear, “She seems to have a close relationship with Lucy of Deton Group. It was she and Lucy who prevented me from bringing the Young Mistress back earlier.”
Seraphim reported to Duke Charles right in front of Ciel, showing no reservations. She seemed to want to use the Duke to make Ciel suffer a little.
“Avena’s friend?”
Charles was expressionless. He looked at Ciel and slightly nodded, “I am very pleased that even though Avena left Ansu City, the standard of her friendships has not changed.”
The Duke had stopped. At this point, it was no longer possible for Ciel to leave.
“Ciel.”
Ciel slightly lowered her head and bent her right knee slightly, curtsying. “It is a pleasure to meet you, Your Excellency.”
Just from Charles’s simple sentence, Ciel could roughly sense some of Charles’s personality.
This was a very old-fashioned noble, and his desire for control was not low.
“Is Miss Ciel here to meet someone?”
Charles seemed to have no intention of leaving and directly started chatting with Ciel.
“No, I just saw a bored person here, so I got out of the carriage and gambled a coin with him.”
Ciel replied, half-truth, half-lie, “I lost 50 pounds.”
“That’s quite unlucky then.”
Charles took out his golden antique pocket watch, glanced at the time, and said, “Please come to my mansion another day for a visit. I am in a hurry to attend a meeting now… Seraphim, let’s go.”
Charles and Seraphim walked onto the carriage one after the other. After the carriage drove away, Seraphim, who was sitting opposite Charles, said:
“Your Excellency Charles, why didn’t you just arrest her? The Young Mistress has already been misled by her. Didn’t you see her eyes? Just one look sent shivers down my spine!”
Charles just closed his eyes and rested, ignoring Seraphim’s words.
Arrest her directly?
Could an ordinary person reach the silver chip level? Could an ordinary person be neither humble nor arrogant when meeting a Duke? Could an ordinary person’s gaze cause a Tier 4 to palpitate and a Tier 3 to feel a chill?
Charles would not take any action before thoroughly investigating the other party’s background.
Moreover, his energy was currently completely focused on Forte. He couldn’t afford to be distracted by anything else.
Forte had been making quite a few moves these past two days. He seemed to be looking for someone… but it was unclear who he was looking for. Charles wanted to figure this out.
After all, Forte’s behavior at the private royal luncheon that day was too suspicious… It gave him a constant bad feeling.
Fortunately, Charles had recorded the appearance of the scars on Forte’s face.
He just didn’t know what this urgent meeting Forte had called was about…
Meanwhile, in another carriage.
Ciel exhaled in relief only after Charles’s carriage had driven far away.
She had come to this private park just to fulfill her promise in the simulation. Who knew she would coincidentally run into Duke Charles here—if she had known Duke Charles would be here, she definitely wouldn’t have taken this detour.
Fortunately, Charles seemed to have no interest in why she was here. It was as if something more important was waiting for him.
She could only say it was fortunate that she only met Charles, not Forte… The West District was still a bit too small. She ran into acquaintances just by walking around.
For the rest of the time, Ciel went to Lucy’s home. After giving her the list of equipment Adele needed and confirming the current state of her sister Lichie—she was going to send Lichie to the Redemption Society sanatorium in Bliss City—she didn’t stay long and left directly.
Ciel was worried that if she stayed longer, she might encounter someone she shouldn’t.
Ciel’s last destination was her new house. Her new house was a little closer to Amy’s, and the price of the houses was similar.
At this moment, Ciel’s house was mostly tidied up. The butler at the door, after confirming Ciel’s identity, called the other maids together and introduced them to Ciel one by one. He had them greet Ciel and get to know their new employer.
Ciel took Tara for a brief walk to familiarize herself with her new house. Finally, she went into a room, leaned back in a chair, and sighed softly.
Ciel in the simulation had personally talked to Lichie about getting treatment, but Ciel in reality did not. She had Lucy handle the entire process.
She knew Lucy could handle things, but at the same time, Ciel was trying to minimize contact with Lichie.
Lichie was just an ordinary person. She had been involved with transcendent power too deeply now… At least until this matter settled down, Ciel would not go to see Lichie again.
Ciel also knew that doing this might seem a little heartless to outsiders, but it was unavoidable—staying by Ciel’s side was simply too dangerous.
There was no chance to start over if she made a mistake in reality.
