- Chapter 8 - Really Should Shoot You in One Go
Yu Jingtang expressed no interest in eating the chinchilla. In the end, Zou Lang could only find a small cage and put the chinchilla in it.
By nightfall, Zou Lang was worried about Yu Jingtang and wanted to check on him. However, when he tried the door, he found it was locked from the inside. He scratched at the door, but there was no response from inside, so he had no choice but to go back to his own room to sleep.
Zou Lang had expended a lot of energy that day and was exhausted. He fell asleep shortly after getting into bed.
In the early morning, Zou Lang was woken up by the chinchilla. The chinchilla was jumping around in its cage, making chirping noises.
Zou Lang scratched his head, got up angrily, and scolded the chinchilla, “You little thing, I spared your life, but that doesn’t mean you can disturb my sleep!”
He was really asking for trouble. He was already annoyed with one master, and now he had found himself another.
Suddenly, a scream pierced the night. It was the student on night patrol.
Zou Lang jumped up, realizing that zombies had gotten in!
He hurriedly ran downstairs.
Yu Jingtang was even faster than him. By the time the others rushed downstairs, the fight was already over. There was blood on the knife in his hand, and there were three or four zombie corpses on the ground. The patrolling student was standing there, shaking.
Zou Lang saw that no one had been bitten and felt somewhat relieved. He then ran to the yard to check the situation. The zombies had pushed the bricks of the back wall and climbed in from there.
The students had all woken up and were huddled together in fear in the lobby of the small hotel.
Zou Lang saw that Yu Jingtang didn’t look too good, so he took it upon himself to give orders. “Little Bun, you take two students and patch up the bricks. Then double the number of people on patrol tonight. Dismissed. Dismissed. Girls, go back to sleep.”
Suddenly, Yu Jingtang called him in a low voice, “Zou Lang.”
“Huh, what’s up?” Zou Lang was a bit flattered to be called out and wagged his tail as he approached.
Yu Jingtang whispered in his ear, “Help me up.”
Zou Lang understood and reached out to support Yu Jingtang’s body without showing any emotion. The touch was sticky, his wound had split open, and blood was on his body.
Even though an emergency light was on in the room, it was still dim. It was only when he got close that he saw Yu Jingtang’s lips were tightly pursed, and his forehead was covered in fine beads of sweat. Zou Lang’s heart sank. If the situation wasn’t very bad, Yu Jingtang, who cared about face and was proud, would definitely not ask him for help.
Zou Lang stroked Yu Jingtang and took him upstairs, settling him in bed.
Yu Jingtang was rolling around on the bed, drenched in cold sweat, curling up his body, and his long legs kicked. He held his breath and endured a bout of pain.
Zou Lang touched his forehead and was startled by the high fever, “Yu Jingtang, you have a high fever.”
At this point, Yu Jingtang could no longer hold back, moaning with a trembling voice. If he hadn’t been holding back, he would have almost fallen there after chopping those few zombies just now.
His injury and illness had not improved, but had worsened.
Zou Lang brought some water to wet a towel and put it on his forehead, “In this state, we can’t leave tomorrow.”
Yu Jingtang closed his eyes, his teeth chattering, “No, we must leave tomorrow, we can’t delay any longer.” With the first batch of zombies breaking in, there would be a second and third batch, this hotel was no longer safe.
But if they delayed any longer, it would only become more dangerous.
His current situation was really bad.
Zou Lang looked at him with heartache, seeing that the gauze on his body had been completely soaked with blood.
Yu Jingtang was in pain, always frowning and closing his eyes. At first, his hands were on Zou Lang’s hands. Then, after another bout of unbearable pain, he reached out to grab the nameplate around his neck.
Zou Lang knew he was going to bite that metal thing again, so he snatched the nameplate and brought his own wrist up.
Yu Jingtang was in severe pain, not caring about what was in front of him. He opened his mouth and bit down. After about ten seconds, he let go after enduring the pain, and there was a taste of blood in his mouth.
Zou Lang looked at his wrist, there were two rows of teeth marks, and blood was seeping out of the wound, especially at the positions of the two tiger teeth, there were two small blood holes. He hadn’t noticed that Yu Jingtang’s tiger teeth were particularly sharp, but looking at this wound, he almost suspected that the person on the bed was a vampire reincarnate.
Yu Jingtang opened his eyes, pushed Zou Lang’s hand away, and said with a hint of apology, “Does it hurt?”
Zou Lang smiled, “You’re not a zombie, I’m willing to be bitten by you.” Then he raised his hand, showing off to Yu Jingtang like a treasure, “Look, a watch.”
Yu Jingtang was too tired to bother with him.
Zou Lang pushed his luck, “I don’t mind if you bite me again for a pocket watch.”
Yu Jingtang’s face turned red instantly, “Get lost!”
Zou Lang sensed that his body was gradually relaxing. Being able to curse meant he was getting better.
Yu Jingtang tossed and turned for half the night before finally falling asleep. He was running a fever, and his body ached. When he woke up at seven o’clock the next morning, as his biological clock dictated, Zou Lang was no longer by his side, presumably having returned to his room. Yu Jingtang sighed. He was usually a light sleeper, but last night he had been in a semi-conscious state and had no idea when Zou Lang had left.
The fever reducer finally took effect, and his fever subsided significantly. He got up and changed his medicine. When he went downstairs, the students were already gathered in the hall, ready to set off.
Yu Jingtang took a headcount and frowned, “Where’s Zou Lang? Hasn’t he gotten up yet?”
The students shook their heads in unison, “We haven’t seen him. There’s no one in the room upstairs.”
Yu Jingtang looked again and noticed that Little Bun was also missing. He suddenly felt as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over him from head to toe. His fingers were trembling, and his heart almost stopped. He had lost someone in a moment of inattention. He somewhat regretted not handcuffing the person to himself.
At this critical moment of departure early in the morning, this second-generation official had given him a wonderful gift.
Yu Jingtang stood there, his face pale, his mind spinning.
The person was gone. When did he leave? How long has it been? What did he go to do? Which direction did he go? How can a few people find him? Which direction should they go? Will there be other dangers?
Just as he was thinking, the door rang, and the door was pushed open from the outside. Zou Lang came in with a grin, looked at Yu Jingtang’s unhappy face, and said lightly, “Sorry, I’m late. I brought breakfast for everyone on the way this morning. The bus is ready outside, let’s have breakfast and set off.”
As he spoke, he threw some things to the students, which turned out to be cakes and milk that were still within the shelf life.
For a moment, all the students cheered as if they were not going to escape, but to go on a spring outing.
Yu Jingtang didn’t want to quarrel with him in front of the students, so he pulled Little Bun over and asked, “Bao Shuai, where did you go this morning?”
Little Bun said, “The captain said…it takes a distance to get into the subway from here. He checked the map, there is a long-distance bus station nearby, he went to the parking lot of the bus station and picked up a bus. The things were picked up from a convenience store on the way.”
Yu Jingtang asked again, “Did you encounter any zombies?”
“We encountered a few, and the officer killed them,” Little Bun said.
Yu Jingtang turned to look at Zou Lang. This second-generation military man was not weak in his skills. It was just that he had run out of ammunition before. Once he got the ammunition, he was like the Monkey King who had left the Tight-Band Spell, and he was in full bloom.
Zou Lang came over, asked Little Bun to prepare the bus, patted Yu Jingtang’s shoulder and said, “I prepared a gift for you, no need to thank me.”
Yu Jingtang sneered, it was indeed a wonderful gift, but he had been unlucky since he was a child and really couldn’t enjoy it.
Just five minutes ago, he had been scared pale by the news of Zou Lang’s disappearance, his heart pounding, his mind full of psychological construction. If Zou Lang was really eaten by zombies, how would he explain it to the military commander? He hadn’t recovered yet and this person was still shamelessly taking credit for it.
A soldier, disobedient to military orders, disregards superiors.
Thinking of this, Yu Jingtang pulled the safety catch on his gun, pointed the gun at Zou Lang’s head, and gritted his teeth, “Zou Lang, I really should shoot you in one go.”
