Eat Less Fish in the Future - Chapter 6
At first, everyone felt very relaxed. After all, the first two company commanders had been quite interesting, so they naturally assumed that this battalion commander would also be a good person.
Facts proved that habitual thinking should be avoided.
Habitual thinking could be very harmful.
The battalion commander’s voice boomed like a great bell. “Everyone stand up straight! Why are you all so slack and sloppy?”
Someone muttered quietly. “He seems hard to deal with.”
The battalion commander shouted even louder. “Stand at attention! Anyone who moves gets an extra 10 minutes! We start with a minimum of 30 minutes!”
“Okay, 10 minutes.”
“10 minutes.”
“It’s been an hour now.”
“It’s been an hour and a half now.”
“I heard from the other company commanders that you Art College students are especially disobedient and just laugh all day, huh? Do you know what nickname I had back when I was in the new recruit company? I’m best at dealing with the disobedient ones!”
“Don’t think that just because you were used to being arrogant in middle and high school, I can’t do anything to you!”
Li Min grumbled. “Well, tell us what your nickname was then. What’s wrong with the Art College? The Art College produces artists. Have you ever seen an artist who follows all the rules?”
“Exactly,” someone echoed softly, “I’ve been looked down upon for this too many times since I was young. It’s bullshit that the quality of Art College students is not good. Why doesn’t he look at how high the admission scores for W University’s Art College are? Half of W University’s reputation comes from us, okay?”
“I can’t stand it. A battalion commander with prejudice against certain departments, how impressive.”
The battalion commander pointed. “What are you muttering about back there? If you have the guts, come up here and say it to me!”
This muttering had drawn all of the battalion commander’s attention to this side.
“The girl at the back, come out to the side. The first one. Don’t move! No moving allowed!”
Yesterday, the wind had been strong and the rain heavy. Although they had used umbrellas, they couldn’t avoid being rained on and blown by the wind.
Normally, this wouldn’t have been a big deal, but today happened to be during Zheng Yimian’s menstrual period. Having caught a chill the day before, even though the sun was shining brightly today, her lower abdomen still felt as if it was being twisted in pain.
Under these circumstances, asking her to stand at attention without moving was really too much for her.
Zheng Yimian bit her lip tightly, her teeth clenching so hard that her lower lip turned pale.
She closed her eyes, cold sweat breaking out on her back and cheeks.
“No closing eyes! Who stands at attention with their eyes closed? Add 10 minutes!”
“No touching your stomach, add another 10 minutes!”
She could still endure if she forced herself, but doing so might drag everyone else down. Zheng Yimian raised her hand to report. “Report to the battalion commander, I…”
The battalion commander said sternly. “No excuses allowed!”
Li Min couldn’t bear to watch anymore. She supported Zheng Yimian and looked up to plead with the battalion commander. “Battalion commander, her stomach really hurts too much. Please let her go rest.”
The battalion commander didn’t move at all, staring into the distance, seemingly determined not to allow any rest. “If one rests, there will be a second. What about the others? If you can’t handle this small difficulty, how will you manage in the future? In our day, we stood unmoved in wind and rain! Keep standing!”
As the pain surged, Zheng Yimian could barely stand steady. Her mind was in chaos.
Her head was splitting with pain.
The battalion commander showed no sympathy and clearly couldn’t empathize with this kind of pain. He became even harsher. “Don’t play games with me here. No supporting her. I don’t believe a stomach ache can make someone unable to stand.”
A girl spoke up. “But it really can make someone unable to stand…”
The girls all started to speak out. “It really hurts a lot. What’s wrong with resting for a bit?”
“Yeah, I can see she really can’t hold on anymore.”
“Having your period really hurts. Not letting her rest is too much…”
The battalion commander glared, veins bulging in anger, and shouted directly. “Am I going too far or are you?! You Art College bunch, you really…”
He didn’t finish his sentence, suddenly interrupted by a voice.
The voice was nonchalant, yet full of provocation.
“Battalion commander, what about us Art College students?”
Though it was clearly a sentence full of defiance, it still used the respectful title “battalion commander”, even emphasizing those two words a bit, making it sound like sarcasm.
Liang Yu tilted his head, took off his hat, the annoyance in his eyes finally unable to be suppressed.
Seeing a male student respond, the battalion commander finally shifted his anger. “What, you’re being insubordinate?!”
Liang Yu smiled disdainfully, throwing his hat at the battalion commander’s feet, and said with a smile. “Yes, I am.”
As he threw his hat, everyone else dared to move.
The battalion commander’s words had been asking for trouble from the start. Everyone had just been holding back. Who could accept their major being repeatedly treated as a cancer? Who could accept discrimination against their field of study?
Hats were thrown one after another at the battalion commander’s feet, with some even stepping on them before throwing them at him.
“Battalion commander, isn’t it wrong to discriminate against W University’s golden major like this?”
“Battalion commander, being so heartless towards girls, isn’t your targeting too obvious?”
“Battalion commander, what makes you so great? Give us a reason why we must obey you.”
“What’s wrong with the Arts Department? Your father is still your father.”
The battalion commander was so angry he could barely speak clearly. With one hand on his hip, he yelled. “What, you’re challenging me?! You don’t believe I’m better than you?!”
“Who said you’re better?” Zhao Yuan sneered from within the ranks. “Did we acknowledge that?”
Everyone laughed uncontrollably.
“Yeah, yeah, we didn’t acknowledge it. You crowned yourself, didn’t you?”
“So where are you better? Let’s have a competition?”
“Right, right, let’s compete. You choose what to compete in!”
Liang Yu folded his arms and smiled. “Anyway, we have all kinds of club members here – basketball club, boxing club, table tennis club, badminton club… If you like dressing up, there are cosplay club members in the girls’ formation.”
“– You choose what to compete in.”
“Hahahahahahahaha!”
“Could it be the legendary crossdressing master?”
The more they talked, the more uncontrollable it became. After all, they were a group of hot-blooded youths who feared nothing. Once their tempers were ignited, it wasn’t something that could be extinguished in a moment.
The battalion commander’s face alternated between green and white, looking extremely unpleasant.
Zhao Yuan whistled provocatively and made a gesture. “Damn, battalion commander, you’re so great, you’re not afraid, are you?”
“You keep saying ‘you Art College students’, clearly looking down on us, thinking we’re uneducated and have poor grades, right? Since you look down on us so much, come and beat us down yourself!”
“Who the fuck isn’t brave enough?” The battalion commander was provoked. He pointed and said, “Send out your best, you choose what to compete in!”
After saying this, he threw the water bottle in his hand on the ground. “I don’t believe I can’t handle you lot!”
“Oh my, that’s quite a big talk,” Zhao Yuan pushed Liang Yu forward, “Then let’s go with Brother Yu. Our Yu has a black belt in Taekwondo, some knowledge of grappling techniques, and he’s not bad at close combat either — which one do you choose?”
Everyone in the ranks laughed heartily.
“The best one! Taekwondo!” the commander said, “There are special clothes to change into, right?”
“Damn, he really wants to compete,” a roommate pushed Zhao Yuan, “What if Brother Yu seriously injures him?”
Zhao Yuan patted his hand. “Don’t worry, he won’t. It’s just to teach him a lesson.”
Liang Yu raised his chin, asking with a hint of sarcasm. “So if we two compete, what about everyone else?”
Zheng Yimian was stunned, as if she sensed something.
The battalion commander spoke without thinking. “Even if others don’t have class, don’t think you can escape. Everyone, class dismissed, no more classes today!”
“It’s useless to dismiss class,” the roommate said, “Won’t everyone gather here to watch the match?”
“Idiot,” Zhao Yuan stepped on him, “He’s trying to get time for sister-in-law to go back to the dorm. Don’t you understand? Do you think Brother Yu would get so angry if the instructor wasn’t targeting sister-in-law? I haven’t seen him lose his temper like this in a year.”
Liang Yu smiled casually. “Alright, then let’s dismiss class.”
Hearing this, Li Min immediately gratefully helped Zheng Yimian up. “Liang Yu is really a moral leader, fighting for our face and our benefits. Okay, I’ll take you back first, you rest well.”
Zheng Yimian’s mind was foggy, and she didn’t have time to think about anything else. But when she was picking up her bag, she felt a gaze lightly sweep over her.
Only Zheng Yimian and Li Min left early from the whole class. No one noticed because everyone was already excited about the upcoming match.
Someone volunteered. “Our Taekwondo club has a competition venue and clothes. Why don’t I lead everyone there?”
Everyone applauded, rubbing their hands in anticipation, with phones at the ready.
The battalion commander’s face was a mix of red and white, his emotions unreadable.
Everyone swarmed into the Taekwondo club, and someone found clothes for Liang Yu and the commander.
Liang Yu’s expression was calm as he slipped to the side to change.
Liang Yu finished changing first and stood on the competition mat, adjusting the tightness of his belt.
Zhao Yuan looked at himself and lamented. “His legs are so damn long…”
The roommate said, “His waist is very thin too.”
Zhao Yuan: “It’s none of your business.”
Roommate: ??
As Liang Yu began warming up, people below started cheering for him.
“Liang Yu! Liang Yu! Liang Yu!”
This situation reminded Zhao Yuan of high school basketball games. Their cheerleaders would all chant Liang Yu’s name, and later… even some cheerleaders from the opposing side would defect and start chanting Liang Yu’s name.
🙂
Just as everyone was cheering enthusiastically, the club door was suddenly pushed open, and the two previous company commanders were standing at the entrance.
The two company commanders were clearly wanting to smile, but they put on serious expressions and said meaningfully. “What’s all this commotion about? Everyone go back to training!”
“No, it’s not like that,” Zhao Yuan stood up and explained the recent situation, “There’s a battalion commander who looked down on us and wanted to have a competition with us.”
The class monitor waved his hand, ordering everyone with an air of wanting to see the show. “The Taekwondo match has been prepared for a long time. Quick, someone go call the battalion commander out!”
Someone volunteered and stood up, rushing towards the changing room.
“I’ll go! I’ll go!”
Several brave souls also stood up, heading to other rooms to search.
